The Red Sox called the Orioles yesterday and offered Manny Ramirez for shortstop Miguel Tejada, according to an American League source. However, it is way too early to know if the Red Sox or any other team will be able to pry the disgruntled superstar from Baltimore.

To be fair, Mr. Miles doesn't say the Cubs are the "frontrunner," he says to expect them to be first in line. Meaning he predicts that they will be one of the first teams to inquire - put that way, it's not all that strong a statement.

But, FWIW, I do consider the Cubs as having a good shot. IF Hendry is willing to part with some very good prospects.

Oh My Len. If Hendry could get Tejada this offseason would be close to smashing a success.

I am not getting my hopes up.

Williams

Pawelek

Cedeno

Dopiark (he is destined to be a DH anyway)

That would be my offer.

I'm not sure how much trade value Pawelek has this point seeing as he's fresh off the draft and hasn't done much professionally yet. Speaking of which, if I'm not mistaken (though I very well could be... I'm not an expert on draft rules) I think that a team can't trade a player for something like a year after he is drafted and signed. If that's indeed the case then Pawelek can't be used as a bargaining chip unil mid-season at the earliest.

I would think Pie would absolutely have to be included in any deal for Tejada. And really, that's fine by me. We have no idea if he'll develop and using him to get a player like Tejada before his value drops is a good move.

I'd rather let go of Hill or Pie than Pawelek.

Agree with you on Hill, not sure on Pie. I'd hate to give up either of our Prized 'P' Prospects.

By MLB rules, you also have to wait 1 year from when Pawelek signed to be able to trade him.

It'll take a boatload of prospects to get him and/or a good ML ready player (that's in the pitching).

I say Pie, Williams, Walker, and a prospect not named Cedeno or Murton. If they need more, throw in Kelton. However, I'd rather not trade Hill.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy oh boy oh boy.

Tejada's price is going to depend on how seriously he wants out of Baltimore.

It'll be dictated by teams like the Cubs and Boston who have a serious demand for a SS and the caliber of Tejada is a rarity, given how much teams are willing to spend on 2nd tier SS over the past seasons.

If a team like Mets become involved, then the asking price becomes even higher.

Who does Baltimore have at SS without Tejada? Cedeno would almost certainly need to be included. Walker may be a possibility at 1B, but he'd be at the low end of production there, and they have an All-Star 2B, so that's out of the question.

Hmm...True enough. Alright then. Switch Cedeno with Walker in that deal. I'd hate to see Cedeno go, but if we got Miggy.... =P~

they don't have anyone ML ready (or several years away). C. Gomez is the next guy on the depth chart, lol.

This works out fine IMO, since I think Cedeno can best help the Cubs as a trading chip. Let the O's have him.

I think the AL teams are already priced out of it. Baltimore has enough trouble making the playoffs without strengthening another team they have to compete with, either for the division or a WC.

Are the Mets going to move Reyes to 2B, b/c Tejada isn't moving from SS. Who do they have left in their farm system? Milledge? If they start throwing his name out there, the price will definitely go up, but I'm pretty sure the Tejada bidding is going to start with Pie anyway (and a whole lot more). Once we reach the decision to part with top prospects, it's just a matter of haggling for the lesser guys.

This would make my winter. What do the Orioles have in the outfield, maybe we can throw Corey Patterson in there to save some of our prospects...

Somewhat of an off-topic, this is a question I don't have an answer for but...

Who would likely demand more, Philly for Abreu or Balt. for Tejada?

Interesting. On one hand, Tejada wants out and everyone knows it. Baltimore may be forced to trade him at some point. Philly isn't forced to trade Abreu, now that they got rid of Thome. However, Philly does have available replacements for Abreu. And they still have a pretty good offensive nucleus of Utley, Howard, Burrell, Rollins, Michaels, Rowand.

I still think Tejada would command more. Especially from the Cubs perspective. The O's would have to be interested in corner OF/IF and SS to replace Tejada, meaning possibly losing scarce top prospects Cedeno, Murton, Dopirak, or Harvey. The Phils would have more interest in pitching, the Cubs strength.

I agree wholeheartedly, I just don't want to part with both of our top prospects (Pie and Hill). The way I see it, Pie is more easily replaceable as we can extend Pierre's contract or find someone else, whereas good pitchers are very hard to come by. The mets won't throw in Milledge I don't think. They seem to be very protective of him...

How do you evaluate that? Philly wants a front of the rotation starter, which they probably won't get. Who knows what Baltimore wants? They could certainly net a nice haul in prospects if they decided to go that route.

I think Tejada is more value given age and position considerations. There is a large jump between guys like Tejada and second tier players like Furcal. There aren't many elite SS and none who are available besides Tejada (supposedly).
