assuming that we do not need him to acquire a RF, I like the idea of sending him to the Angels for a prospect.

Who are some of the Angels position player prospecs who I keep hearing about but then forget their names?

Kotchman, McPherson, Wood. You probably won't get any of them for Patterson, but those are the names you're probably thinking of.

I imagine Green would be willing to do that to come to Chicago, but you might have to guarantee his 2008 paycheck as a carrot.

Even if AZ were willing to deal Green, why in the world would you think their GM to be silly enough to take a $2.x million dollar bust for a guy who is capable of being in the top 5 of NL outfielders.. Although, I know Green has a background in Chicago, so that would not be a problem.

But anyone who heard Hendry on MLB Radio yesterday knows that Patterson is gone.

Because Green is not a CFer and that's where they have him penciled in right now.

Right now, the Diamondbacks need to move outfielders. Troy Glaus is at 3rd base and they re-signed Tony Clark for first base. The have Luis Gonzalez in left, Chad Tracy in right, and Shawn Green miscast in CF. They still have no place for Carlos Quentin and Connor Jackson. Trading Glaus would be ideal for them, but as of yet no takers. They'd probably love to trade Gonzalez, but he's old and expensive. Green may be the best trade chip they have unless they want to move one of the prospects. Defensively, they will have problems with Green in centerfield.

Don't get me wrong - I like Shawn Green, and would prefer him over Luis.

But with Green guaranteed $21.5M over 2 years and his 26-team NTC, I just don't see it happening. He wasn't thrilled leaving LA and moving to Arizona, if you recall. Of course, if the D-Backs kick in some dough, and like Jeff said, the Cubs picked up his 2008 option, things could change.

I know McPherson, but just assumed that he is untouchable in light of their needs at both corner IF positions.

If we throw in another prospect, could we snag one of their upper-tier guys? Or may be just CPatt for a mid-tier guy?

If he wasn't thrilled about going to Arizona, then wouldn't it be logical to assume that he wouldn't mind a trade out of AZ as much as he did leaving LA?

Nationals or Rangers?

SoCal contact who told me about the Angels/Cubs rumour last week also said Arizona may be in the mix for Patterson. He posed three scenarios:

(1) Patterson for Luis Gonzalez and cash;

(2) 3-way deal with Patterson going to AZ, Glaus going to LA and Bradley coming to the Cubs along with prospect movement and cash.

(3) 4-way deal with Vazquez going to the Red Sox, Manny going to the Mets, Floyd going to the Cubs, and Corey and prospects going to AZ.

Crazy stuff!

out of these 3 scenarios isn't Bradley the only one who could actually play RF? WOuld Murton be moved to RF if we acquired Luis Gonzalez or Cliff Floyd?

Murton would be a LF platoon partner and 4th OF.

so who would the RF be then?

CPatt plus pitching to TX for BWilk? (I haven't given up hope that we could nab him yet...)

I could see that happening. The guys on mlb radio were talking about Wilkerson probably on his way to another team.

Would anyone here be opposed to keeping Corey on the Cubs bench, he could pinch run, be a late defensive replacement for Murton, etc., and you never know, he might find his stroke and could start in RF. Opinions?

Despite depressed value, he is still the Cubs 2nd best trade chip right now (behind Walker). And since the Cubs still have a need, it makes sense to move him.

If they can move him for something valuable, I'm all for it. But if they are taking crap back, Patterson is fine for the bench. Pierre shouldn't be guaranteed a spot past 2006, a little healthy competition between relatively young players would be a good thing.

Does Patterson have any options left? Could he go back to Iowa until his stroke comes back?

Agreed to both posts gentleman, except I am not sure of Patterson's trade value at this point. Seems like selling low to me. I say keep him around and give him a shot to be the player everybody thought he was going to be last year. I mean, this time last year, Patterson was probably better thought of around here than Derrek Lee. Oh boy, a lot can change in a year.

If such a move were made, Hendry would be beatified by this board. :D

I don't know about that, I think most people wanted Wilkerson for CF.

I think that is a serious overstatement. Patterson's problems this past season aren't new problems, just exaggerated and exposed by a league that adapted to him.

There are many folks around here that have had fingers corssed on this kid for a long time hoping he adresses the known problems. He does in practice, in ST, in the offseason, etc. But when he steps in that box, he just isn't disciplined enough to put the practice into reality.

ESPN Insider is stating that Bradley and Huff could be headed to Wrigley. No certain terms on how that happens as far as who is traded. Of course thats ESPN talking so take it for what its worth.

Hmmm.

Huff/Pierre/Bradley, and Murton available for the inevitable Bradley injury.

I like it.
