Got this off cubs.com:

"According to Rosenthal of fox sports.com, the cubs may have to give Guzman in order to get Pierre. I saw this in 2 other boards."

Anyone else heard this yet?

no as opposed to Aramisfan and m2d bringing crappy rumors to this board.

That eyeroll thing is insulting. In case you are interested. It is the same thing as saying I'm a jackass. It's fine if you think it but I don't need to see it.

So they will get D-Train number 2 and we are stuck with a 1 year rental of Pierre as we wait for Pie to become our CF?

Nope, hold firm JH!

D-Train #2? That's probably jumping the gun a bit. He maybe more closely headed toward Brownlie #2.

Are you kidding? His only problem is he cannot stay healthy. That is a big problem to be sure but his velocity is still in the high 90's and his breaking balls are still biting.

Guzman is still the Cubs best pitching prospect. And to some it is not even close.

He's thrown 53 innings since 2003 and he's only reached 100 innings in a season once. He's a very tradeable commodity that really doesn't have all that much value to the Cubs. Hill, Pinto, Nolasco and others remain in front of him as SP's for the future. He may never play a full season again.

If all this team were missing was a centerfielder and lead off hitter then I might consider the trade. But this team has far too many holes to make a trade like this now.

He must have seen him pitch 90's heat in one of his 6 innings pitched in 2005. Or maybe he saw the gun in 2004 when he threw all of 17.2 innings in 2004.

If the search wasn't disabled I would find you the thread where we discussed Guzman's velocity. He was clocked at 97 late in his rehab this year.

When d-train and Guzman were teammates, they were the two all star pitchers in the Northwest league,so thats where this is coming from.

I wouldn't do it, but Hendry might. He's a lot more enamored with Pierre than I am.

I don't think he will. He is also probably more enamored with Guzman as well! Remember, Hendry has more untouchables in the minors than the majors.

From BA's 2005 AFL preview (last year):

BOUNCING BACK: Angel Guzman, rhp, Cubs

Guzman was pushing for a big league job in 2003, but his balky shoulder has stalled his progress. He had arthroscopic surgery to repair a slight labrum tear, and the Cubs handled him cautiously in 2004, shutting him down in July because he tired after working nonstop during his rehab. Guzman didn't make his 2005 debut until early August due to forearm stiffness, and he pitched just 18 innings overall. While his durability is in question, so is Guzman’s stuff, and the Cubs will want to see if his 91-96 mph fastball will ever come back to its 2003 form.

What velocity a guy touches once or twice in an outing is largely irrelevant.

Guzman works in the low 90s.

Guz works in the mid 90s but whatever. That is hardly in the Brownlie range of velocity. In addition, his secondary pitches are still there. Guzman and Brownlie are not even in the same Vein diagram when talking about prospects.

From BA's Top 10 Cubs prospects (last week):

Before he got hurt, Guzman had arguably the best fastball, curveball and changeup in the system. The velocity and hard sink have returned with his fastball. He always has excelled at throwing strikes, and that hasn’t changed.
