  1. If he comes up, you have to play him every day for at least 2 weeks to give him a chance....and in a similar note...if he's physically able, I'm fully behind the idea of giving Soto a chance at the ML level.
  2. right...i voted for martin... my first post was a joke since the thread has taken this left turn...i say we just see if anyone will bite on barrett...then bring up soto... why not!? Because when you sell that low on a player that actually has some talent you will get nothing in return, hurting the team in the long run? You were probably joking, this comment is more general than specifically directed at you. I do question why Hill is getting a chance as opposed to Soto...Soto, at least to me, seems to be a much better prospect, I'm curious why he's not being given a shot to play
  3. Give Soto a chance at the big league level?
  4. They need a quality defensive guy who can replace his offensive skills... Someone like...Isturiz.
  5. You know you're a Cubs fan when: 2 outs, 9th inning, you have a lead...and you're not comfortable
  6. If izturis bats here someone should be fired...likely Hendry.
  7. 2 walks...nobody out....I'll lay 5-1 odds we still don't score.
  8. well then he and I have the same goal...I want him out too...how freakin hard is it to see...give me Murton cold off the bench for a week over joke
  9. Are you FN kidding me...at least make him throw it home...
  10. How many freakin times this year have we failed to score the guy from 2nd on a base hit... now we have Jones...might as well be two out.
  11. Ummm....why the hell didn't Lou pull him about 2 batters ago?
  12. My gameday says 1 out. Pretty sure the first guy got out
  13. I think you are legally required to refer to him as "hard hittin" Mark Whiten...
  14. From Bruce's article today: Marshall wasn’t the only Cubs "kid" to lead the way. Second baseman Mike Fontenot, up for his second stint, singled in the third and added a 2-run single in the fifth to break a 1-1 tie. Rookie center fielder Felix Pie was on base three times, scoring a run. And shortstop Ryan Theriot stole a base and made a couple of nice defensive plays. -- Right now we've got Pie, TheRiot, Fontenot, Marshall, Hill, Zambrano, Marmol, Wuertz, and Gallagher all basically products of our farm system at the Major league level...and, aside from Lee, Soriano and Ramirez they are arguably our better players...coincidence? If that doesn't argue against going out and spending money on middle of the road bench/fillin/relievers I"m not sure what does.
  15. "Marshall worked in concert with backup catcher Koyie Hill. With Hill behind the plate since his promotion from the minor leagues June 1, the Cubs are 4-1. Hill credited Marshall’s stuff for Wednesday’s win." From Bruce's article today...I wonder if this is/can/should be read as a comment on Barrett.
  16. I wouldn't call that worst case scenario. Worst case is Murton doesn't regain his stroke, Floyd scuffles but racks up just enough service time to guarantee his option, and Jones stays. Even if Floyd is great for 2-3 weeks, his chances of reaching those goals are not great. No...worst case scenario is Murton does well, Hendry trades him for a crap ball middle reliever and we Jones plays out his contract with the Cubs next year b/c no other GM is dumb enough to take him... Heck...if he'd just given his outright release you KNOW someone will pick him up...and pay him the league minimum...that would have to be deducted from what we owe....saving us 450K over the life of the contract...it'd be well worth it.
  17. This move makes me sick. Yes, Murton needs to play every day...but he needs to do it at the major league level. Sending him down while Jones and his .295 OBP get almost 2 times the playing time is almost criminal. I mean seriously...in 1/2 the games Pie has almost as many at bats as Murton did...yet Jones and his OPS which is barely better than Isturiz is still here....there is no emoticon to express this anger...
  18. 3. One of the next 3 batters takes a walk. (nah...not really realistic is it?)
  19. How many times have we failed to score in this situation already this year...(Fred?)..I can think of at least two-three times off the top of my head. 2 years ago I remember we were prolific at failing to score runners from third w/less than 2 outs...our proclivity at this seems to be an even greater accomplishment :^o
  20. Don't worry..I'm sure he'll be beat down with sufficient speed to quell any real thoughts of optimism.
  21. Eeek. Not having Ramirez and Barrett in there really makes the bottom half of the line up...um...questionable.
  22. So I wore the Marquis Jersey to the Cards game yesterday...and then to my softball game afterwords....worth every cent. I don't think I would have got any more reaction if I had wore a "Cards Suck" T-Shirt...(now if Marquis hadn't sucked the night before it would have even been better)
