  1. You mean besides the fact that you don't play for the Cubs? So, jerseys are supposed to advertise fact? If that is the case, I guess I'm supposed to believe there are 14,000 Zambrano's walking around Wrigley when I go to a game? If someone chooses to put their own name on a jersey, I don't take offense that they never played for the team. I can make the mental adjustment that some guy named Finkleman in a Cub jersey two rows in front of me probably isn't avoiding his responsibilities in the dugout. This is my new favorite post ever.
  2. If we're thinking Pie for center this year, why not try and send Jacque home and ask SD about Peavy?
  3. Speaking of Hendry's man-love for Soriano, I wonder who might have dropped this little gem from Jerry Crasnick's latest: ITSJHWD?
  4. Hmm. Would he throw a hissy fit about playing CF like he did over playing LF? maybe we put him at second and still get drew for center? :D Or put Soriano in Center, Drew in Right, and Trade jacque! More realistically, perhaps- Soriano in CF, Murton in LF, trade Jacque for Giles in RF. That's the offensive off season I'd love to see with no Drew.
  5. Nobody ________ with DeJesus.
  6. So...uh, hot stove, anyone? Seriously, Preston Wilson just won a world series ring.
  7. I never understood the hurry to get Hendry's extension done. Why not wait until the end of the year with Baker? It's not like this year was ever full of promise or that last year's performance was worthy of an extension. Had they waited on Hendry, wholesale changes could've been made and this team might have something resembling a direction for next season.
  8. Why is it so difficult to disagree without ridicule? As entertaining and informative as this place can be, it has lately become just as intolerant and unfriendly. What's up with that? Sorry to pick on your post specifically, it's just something that I've noticed lately.
  9. It's been said, but I'd much rather overpay for a guy like Soriano than Neifi, Rusch, Pierre, Izturis... Besides, it's not like he's never slugged well before. This is is 4th season in the last 5 with 35+ HR and .500+ SLG. If he maintains even a modest amount of patience he's head and shoulders above any in-house solutions for 2B.
  10. I think they should trade him for Arod.
  11. I thought the same thing about Gary Matthews, Jr.
  12. Just wanted to say "Thanks Raisin," for those of us who can't sit down to listen. Much appreciated.
  13. Could not have been said better.
  14. That's garbage. He's not defending him because what he did was stupid. He should still be fired, though, along with the rest of his coaches and the front office. So defending yourself, in what it looks like a "dirty play" by a "dirty player" is what you call "stupid?" Remind me, to never play baseball/softball with you. Yeah, that's definitely what I'm saying. Wait, no it isn't. Defending himself from what, exactly? The play was over, and it was clean. It is very, very hard to come off as more of a jerk than AJP, yet that is exactly what Barret has done. There was no dirty play. You are saying because there is some imaginary threat to his "manhood" or some other ridiculous machismo, then what Barret did was justified. That's just backyard punk behavior. I'm not sorry to see AJP get what he's had coming for a while, but in this instance I think Barrett comes off looking more than a little childish. As I said in another thread, I've definitely hit guys to protect my hitters when warranted. I don't have any problem with players "policing" themselves. But to think that's what Barrett was doing smacks of homerism and hypocrisy. If he had run over AJP the same way, there would be 20 threads about how Barrett is the greatest Cub ever and how everyone should play with his intensity. Oh yeah, never play baseball with me.
  15. That's garbage. He's not defending him because what he did was stupid. He should still be fired, though, along with the rest of his coaches and the front office.
  16. Because he's an ass, but that's neither news nor against the rules. The blame for today falls on Barrett's shoulders.
  17. Because everyone around the league has so much respect for the Cubs as it stands? This team is an absolute joke right now, and they got exactly what they deserved today. If they want to make a statement, how about winning a few games? I hate Pierzynski as much as the next guy, but the play was clean. It's one thing to play with passion in a competitive series. It's quite another to make a fool of yourself and have your head handed to you by a better team. If the Cubs want respect they ought to try winning a World Series sometime this century. It's a mess right now, and it's definitely an organizational failure.
  18. Yep -- he issued warnings to both teams after the first pitch -- which as you noted was thrown behind Barry. Nothing wrong with how Joe West handled that situation IMO.... Springer threw a SLIDER on said pitch, Wind City. Take it from a former pitcher, if you are TRYING to hit a batter, you don't try to hit the batter with an "offspeed pitch", you use the "Good ol'e #1", the fastball. The warning on the first pitch was BOGUS. Now, any pitch leading up to the HBP---exlcuding the first pitch---I would agree on the warning. But to instantly issue a warning on a SLIDER, is plain stupid. I hit guys with "sliders" a couple of times in college. It happens more often than you would think, because it gives you a built in excuse.
  19. It's kind of like watching a game in the middle of a huge shopping mall.
  20. If there's one thing Jeremi Gonzalez can do it's eat. FDHe's no Ruben Quevedo.
  21. It's time to blow it up. -leave Dusty in SF with his entire staff -send Jacque back to the AL -dangle Pierre for whatever you can get -ditto Hill -ditto Rusch -DFA Bynum, Restovich -send Hairston anywhere Then: -hire anyone with a clue to run the club -call up Pie -keep Marshall and Guzman in the rotation as long as possible, then deal one of them or start taking bids for Prior -call up Theriot Yes, I'm hitting the panic button, and no, it won't happen. Would the results be any worse, though?
  22. Fearless prediction: Marshall will dominate tonight- 6-1 Cubs.
  23. You know what would be fun? SCORE SOME $%$#^%&^^*&)(*&%^%#$^%@# RUNS!
