  1. So what's the deal with this? I read the initial 10 posts with people freaking out, but what has transpired since that article first came out? Anything at all?
  2. I know GM's are always going to put a positive spin on their decisions, including stupid ones like putting Dempster into the rotation. But to cite that he won 15 games when it happened 7 years ago (a year in which his ERA was around 5, as well)? Come on, Jim. How naive do you think fans are?
  3. I couldn't disagree more. Do you really want to see the home ump eliminated in baseball? Maybe it's the conventionalist in me, but I'd absolutely hate to see the day when balls and strikes are called by some robot. The game is becoming less pure every year; adding "electronic verification", as you call it, would just make it worse.
  4. Hendry has pissed away alot more money on alot worse players. So? That makes it okay to piss away more money? Just cause he's screwed up in the past doesn't mean it's okay for him to screw up again. Im saying that spending a few million on a guy with Priors upside isnt really pissing money away, when you have pissed away money on players with no upside before. It is if you're spending it on 2008, and 2008 only. I absolutely want Prior resigned. However, since we're going to be funding his rehab, the very least he could do is agree to a club option in 2009. Otherwise, what's the point of paying Prior to rehab in '08 and then have him walk once the season is over?

  6. I'm more of a Mark Prior fan than most people on this board, but if he's unwilling to agree to a team option for 2009, then letting him walk is the right move. There's no point in pissing more money away on him so he can rehab, only to have him come back, pitch well, then bolt out of town as quickly as possible. With that said, I really hope that the two sides can work something out. I don't want to see Prior pitching for another team.
  7. 'Twould be true. I talked to both Hendry and Dempster about it. Ryan is excited about the resurgent Blackhawks, I might add. Wait... it's true that they're considering moving him to the rotation, or it's true that they've decided to move him to the rotation? I want to go on record right now and say that putting Dempster back into the rotation is going to be a disaster.
  8. Maybe I just haven't been paying close enough attention, but I didn't see this coming. A player declining that big of an option is just something you don't see too often. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3096412
  9. Take it for what it's worth, but according to Al Yellon's blog, the Cubs are pursuing both of these guys and could have them signed within a week. Fukudome would be a great pickup. I don't know if I see a need for Kuroda though. I haven't paid too much attention to either of these guys; what sort of salary is Fukudome expected to command? And can someone please tell me how to pronounce Fukudome so that I can stop reading it as three syllables with the last one being dome?
  10. Why's that? Don't you get FSN? No, I do. Their cameras are pretty slow to follow the action, and the announcers aren't the best either.
  11. Damn, I hate it when MU games are on FSN.
  12. 8 catches, 130+ yards for Colston in the first half. Hopefully that continues in the 2nd half!
  13. I love Sammy Sosa, but this quote doesn't sit too well with me. And he's crazy if he thinks he's going to get 7 million to play next year. He'll be lucky to get half of that.
  14. That was his prediction yes - are you implying he isn't clairvoyant? No, I was implying (actually, I was clearly stating) that I thought it was him, but couldn't exactly recall.
  15. Given the choice between the best player in baseball and two guys who aren't the best player in baseball... I'm gonna go with the best player in baseball.
  16. Yeah, that forum is a waste of space. Any time there is news about a non-Cubs player, just put it in Baseball Discussions.
  17. Isn't this the same guy that said the Cubs would sweep the DBacks in the NLDS?
  18. No surprise here. With the weak Free Agent market this year, this was a no brainer for the Yankees.
  19. It says that the Padres EXPECT him to be available, not that he is available. Also, what little stock I put into it completely disappeared when it went on to say this... Yeah, ARod is going to sign with the Marlins. Wasn't their entire payroll two years ago about half of what he's asking for? They paid 25 players a total of 14M... they're not going to pay one player 30M two years later. If and when Miguel Cabrera is officially on the market, you'll hear/read about it somewhere other than some San Diego newspaper first. Actually, there've been rumblings about this for a week now and the Union-Trib isnt' the first place I've read about it. I've read that the Yankees will go aggressively after him to replace ARod. Oh, yeah there has been talk about him being moved since well before this week. I was just saying that the article doesn't mean it's definitive, as the thread title suggests.

  21. A writer speculating that the Cubs COULD be interested just because we MIGHT be looking to add a centerfielder. Calm down guys.
  22. Seriously. Why does anyone even read her columns? We're all smart enough to know what she's going to say. Reading her articles and then complaining about them is just a waste of time and energy.
  23. And so it begins. I like Renteria, but I'd much prefer ARod.
  24. Just out of curiosity, how come...is it so they can't go after any other FA's? He's a player in decline and I don't think he'll stick at SS (maybe fore 1 year). Going forward which do you think is more likely - 06 or 07 ARod? In decline? Huh? He just had the best year of his 14 year career. ARod is quite simply not even close to a player that is in decline. A player in his mid 30's is in decline. He also has a higher probability of injury and collapse. Don't' get me wrong, ARod is awesome but 8/30 is a major commitment. He just turned 32 this summer, please stop saying he's in his mid 30's. He has played in at least 154 games each of the past 7 years and has never had a serious injury. By definition, he's not on the decline right now (as he's never had a better year than '07), and just because he's 32 years old doesn't mean he's automatically going to get hurt. I agree that 8/30 if a major commitment, but it's worth it for a guy of this caliber.
