  1. Screw this Hendry, get a GOOD player.
  2. Wow, Grudz signed a one year deal with the freakin Royals?! That doesn't make much sense.
  3. In order for that study to be of use, seems to me you'd have to figure out a way to account for the times a strong arm kept an outfielder from having to make a throw. On a shallow sac fly, I suspect a runner on third is a lot more likely to run on Manny than Ichiro. You're absolutely right... however, you could account for that by simply changing the number of throws to number of opportunities. Runner on first, see how many times a ball was hit to right vs. the number of times it was hit to left. I might be way off base, but I'm willling to bet that my theory is pretty accurate. That assumes all hits to the OF are the same. A harder-hit-than-normal single isn't as likely to advance a runner as a weaker one. And the odds are higher that a blooper with less than 2 outs will keep things station to station, regardless of where in the OF it was hit. What's your point? I'm not saying definitevely that either LF or RF gets more opportunities and that therefore one's arm in either position is more important... I'm just speculating that LF is where your best arm should be. And until I see a study that proves otherwise, I'm sticking with my notion that LF should have the best arm. I'm sure others disagree, and that's the beauty of message boards, but until someone proves me wrong, I'm sticking with my assertion.
  4. If Hendry signs this guy, there would be exreme pandemonium (sp?) going on on this board. Since WaltJ signed him, it's not a big deal. That's the general consensus I'm vibing. Maybe I'm wrong, but this board is getting ridiculouslsy anti-hendry...and anti-Cubs in the process.
  5. In response to the original poster... it will never happen.

  7. People actually call all types of soda coke?! So if you want a 7-Up, you ask for a Coke? Weird!
  8. I agree from a range standpoint but Pie's the only one with the arm for right. I was thinking about this the other day. Wouldn't it make more sense to have your strongest arm in left field? There are a lot more right handed hitters in baseball, and batters pull the ball more than they go the other way, so the left fielder would get more chances... or so it would seem. I know conventional wisdom has the strongest arm in right, but doesn't it make sense to have your strongest arm in left? Am I missing something here? It's the throw from right to third that makes all the difference. How often does a left fielder need to throw to first base? True. It'd be interesting to see a study done on how many times a left fielder had to throw home vs. how many times a right fielder had to throw home or third.
  9. Just out of curiousity, what would be considered an non-subpar OPS to you for each position?

  11. Yes, let's fire a guy who actually got us finally competitive and a guy who netted us Ramirez, and Lee along with drafting Prior if I recall right. Let's clean house on a team that's really close to being a playoff team (barring any injuries) because we had one bad year last year and are trying to fix the problems. If you have a $100MM payroll, and your team has gotten WORSE in every year of your tenure, then you are part of the problem and not part of the solution. Hendry needs to go. Now. And take his pet manager with him. You were all aboard the Hendry "bandwagon" if I remember right... what happened to change your mind?
  12. By no means am I a big Corey fan like a lot of people on this board are, but... why would KPat in RF be a "horrible" idea? Assuming we land Tejada (I know, big assumption) I'd be completely fine with Corey batting 8th for the Cubs next year. At his best Corey would be an average right fielder offensively. His defensive strength is his range, not his arm, which means that he would be wasted/ineffective defensively in RF. Most of all though, Corey in RF is an absolute failure to get production from a corner OF spot. If you go into next season with Cedeno, Murton, AND Patterson in your lineup, you're just asking for trouble, and it doesn't really matter all that much if you get Tejada, you've still got about half your lineup that has a very real chance of falling completely on its face. Well, my whole premise is that Tejada is at SS, so that eliminates Cedeno. If Cedeno is at SS, I don't want Corey in RF. Also, I don't buy into the whole "you have to get X amount of production from this guy because he plays this position." So long as we're a good team overall, I could care less whether the production is coming from RF, SS, or the bench for that matter. Wins matter to me, not production from a specific position. If we can acquire Tejada, who will fill the #5 void, I'd MUCH MUCH MUCH rather see Corey in RF that see Hendry sign somewhere worthless player like Jacque Jones or Juan Encarnacion.

  14. I don't know what this thread is about anymore and I'm too drunk to find out, but when I was at the bar earlier, ESPN news was constantly talking about how the Yankees have offered Nomar a contract to play 1B. I don't get that station at my house, so I'm not sure how much of the story was being rehashed, but I just figued it'd be worth mentioning that the Yankees have (apparently) offered Nomar a contract to play 1B. If he accepts, I'll be very inclined to switch my allegiance from Boston to New York in the AL East. I understand Hendry's motives for not offering Nomar a contract (and for the most part agree with them) but that doesn't change the fact that I'm a bigtime Nomar fan.
  15. He took a chance once and got burned. I didn't expect him to take the exact same chance with the risk of getting burned again.
  16. I'm not sure that I would because that leaves us pretty empty is the starting pitching department. With our staff, we have to have capable starters ready to fill in if need be.
  17. I wanted to keep Nomar as well, but it's not fair to call Hendry an "idiot" for not bringing him back. He took a chance last year and gave Nomar a one year deal to prove he could stay healthy. He didn't stay healthy so Hendry moved on. It's pretty logical.
  18. OK, anyone else out there hear this for cryin out loud??? Sorry for the delay, cpu issue: Patterson, Williams, Hill, Cedeno, and Guzman. I'd try to keep Williams and then call it a done deal.
  19. OK, anyone else out there hear this for cryin out loud??? No kidding. What's the point in posting half of something? Who did Levine mention?
  20. What the hell is the point in meeting with the O's then? "Hey Baltimore, is Tejada available? Yes? Alright, welp see ya later."
  21. Except that Wilson is 9 years younger. Plus all the Lincoln Park Trixies at Wrigley will enjoy is flowing golden locks. Honestly, he would be a good pick up for the Cubs as long as Mabry subs for him about once a week. I think you're getting Wrigley confused with Cell One Ball Park... :D It's been my experience that Wrigley girls are hot in a sorority girl kind of way and CellOne girls are hot in a stripper kind of way. There should really be a separate thread to how hot Wrigley girls are. When my friends and I went up to Wrigley for the June 28-30 Brewers games there were at least two hot girls right near us in the bleachers for each of the three games. :D You know, I always heard that the bleachers were full of good looking sorority girls, so I was pretty psyched about that, but when i went there this past June, I can't remember seeing one attractive woman out there. It was quite the bummer.
  22. Someone needs to lock Pinkel in his office right before the bus is about to leave. That or maybe drop him off somewhere on the way.
