  1. wasnt he in the waterboy, too? Oh you know it.
  2. what else are you going to expect from an announcing booth with Keith Jackson and Dan Fouts? I had no idea who these guys are. I take it they're always this bad?
  3. My God, these announcers are terrible! "He fumbled the ball!" Uhh, no he lateralled. "The kick is good!" Uhh, no it clearly wasn't. That and the refs are signalling that it's no good. Terrible!
  4. I wonder if this decision has anything to do with his name being dangled in the Tejada talks.
  5. Boone's going to hock loogies on umpires?
  6. I have a question for those of you who don't believe in clutchness... or clutchitivity... or clutchosity... anyways... when you're at a baseball game with a buddy and the game is tight and a guy steps up to the plate, your buddy says "I have a feeling he'll drive them in here, this guy is great in the clutch" what do you say to him? I'm just curious.
  7. Just so I understand what you guys are saying... you're saying that players don't perform differently in certain situations? Or at least don't do it consistently enough to classify them as being more successful in certain situations than others?
  8. The offseason from hell gets EVEN WORSE. Hendry has got to go. Good God. You want Hendry fired because he signed a guy to play SS in the minor leagues?
  9. Wow, Seattle is getting royally screwed in that deal.
  10. From who? The Royals and who else? I'd rather platoon with the Cubs than start everyday in KC too. I wouldn't assume quite yet that he'll start everyday.
  11. So what's his status, is he arbitration eligible? (Wilson) I don't know much about him, but the numbers look good. Why would Pittsburgh not want him back?
  12. Adam Greenberg was on his way to becoming one of the game's best fourth outfielders? The fact that not a single team claimed him a few weeks ago strongly suggests otherwise and is telling of how much we (Cubs fans) overvalue our own guys at times.
  13. I was thinking about that; it may be a faulty comparison. Who was Harris in competition with for the last roster spot; in other words who got cut or sent AAA in favor of Harris that year? May be Harris was the better option or it was "six of one, half-dozen of the other". I'm sure there were others and I don't know if the two were batting for the final roster spot, but I know Augie was sent down to Iowa shortly before Lenny's contract was purchased.
  14. He would not be at the end of the bench. He'll be 39 years old. He doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt that he'll go back to the way he once was. His age 38 season was awful, and while it may be due, in part, to being injured, that's what you expect from mediocre players as they get old. And if you look at Dusty's history there is no way he properly uses Grissom in a platoon with Jones, none. Jones is the starting RF, he'll play almost every day if healthy this year. And I'm not saying that he does deserve the assumption that last year was a fluke and he'll automatically be healthy and albe to hit lefties well again. This goes back to the fact that it's a minor league contract and he'll have to EARN a roster spot. And this goes back to the fact that he's an ancient veteran who will only have to be able to stand upright to "earn" the spot. You're entitled to your own opinion. One that's already been proven by the previously outlined Lenny Harris situation. And one that's been disproven by the Dave Hansen, Trenidad Hubbard, Jimmy Anderson and countless others situation.
  15. The Cubs define earn differently than many others. Given the current roster, and his likely competition for the spot, he won't have to do much to be added to the 40-man and given a full paying gig. Given his age, I think it's make a 25 man roster or retire. I just don't see him accepting an assignment to the minors at this stage in his career.
  16. NFC Wild Card round: #5 Panthers at #4 Giants #6 Redskins at #3 Buccaneers AFC Wild Card round: #5 Jaguars at #4 Patriots #6 Steelers at #3 Bengals NFC Divisional round: Bucs (higher seeded Wild Card winner) at #2 Bears Giants (lower seeded Wild Card winner) at #1 Seahawks AFC Divisional round: Patriots (higher seeded Wild Card winner) at #2 Broncos Steelers (lower seeded Wild Card winner) at #1 Colts NFC Championship: Giants (lower seeded Divisional winner) at Bears (higher seeded Divisional winner) AFC Championship: Steelers (lower seeded Divisional winner) at Broncos (higher seeded Divisional winner) Super Bowl: Bears (NFC champion) vs. Broncos (AFC champion) at Detroit

  18. Yeah, and his last good year against lefties was 2004. The last time before that was 2003. The last time before that was 2002... and so on.

  20. You shouldn't be. If he's truly the 5th or 6th option off the bench, Hendry has done another terrible job putting together the bench. What is more likely is that he'd be the 8th or 9th best option, but Dusty would bump him up the list due to service time. Give me a break. If he's the 5th or 6th option off the bench that means that he's the 25th man on the roster. What exactly do you want out of the 25th man? Why do I have to give you a break? My point is that if he makes the team, he will likely do it due more to age than ability. That would be bad for the team. And while he might be designated as the 25th man by some, he'll get a lot more playing time than a 25th man should, as he'll likely become the 4th starter, subbing for Murton more than he should, and coming up in big pinch hit spots when a real pinch hitter should be in there. Grissom is about the 29th man on a good team, he could easily become Dusty's go to guy off the bench if/when Neifi gets a starting gig. It just seems that you have unreasonably high expectations for the guy at the end of the bench. That's all I meant by that. 29th man on a good team? Yeah, I guess if you only look at his injury riddled season last year. If you choose to look at his splits over the previous several years though, and you consider how terrible Jones is against lefties, I wouldn't come to that conclusion.
  21. Lenny Harris hit .262/.295/.357/.652 in ST of '03 and still made the team. Grissom had a hamstring strain last year, I don't know if that was his only injury. Yeah, but in fairness, Harris is and was a pinch hitting extraordinare. A quick check of his game log showed that Harris started 25 of his 62 games for the Cubs. Yeah, he was definitely misused. But 3B was a major hole that year (until Aramis arived). CF is set this year, so you can't expect Grissom to get any starts there. All he'll get (if he makes the team!) will be maybe a few in rightfield... which would be a good thing.
