  1. Freel could be a RH part of Pie insurance. He's also versatile enough to fill in at third and second base. Depending on what the Reds would ask for in a trade, Freel might be a suitable jack of all trades for the bench. He's not good, but he doesn't completely suck. I wonder if Dusty told him he needed a little more seasoning on the bench because he was a little too young. Dude, Hairston can teach you a lot.
  2. Would you really want the Cubs named after something produced by a Wisconsin-based corporation? Gotta feed the family. Honestly, I had no idea where they were from and I never heard of them until I saw their commercials on WGN.
  3. Like this stupid interweb idea? Trust me, it'll never fly.
  4. Pac Man and Tank...it'll be like the good old days for your Boys.
  5. It's possible that Hendry just said, hey, this is our offer and come back to me if you want to deal. Mean while, Hendry can still look around for another fix somewhere else. I don't think that's enough if that's what he's said. He needs to either s@!t or get off the pot if you ask me. If he just leaves it with the O's as "here's our offer talk to me when you want to accept it", then DeRo and the rest of the Cubs are going to be dealing with Roberts questions all season. He needs to end the distractions and either make the deal and soon, or tell the O's to go home and fire off a few more knuckle children because the Cubs are no longer playing the game that MacPhail (or Angelos) seems to be playing here. And publicly take the deal offered off the table and walk away. I honestly don't know if the O's are really waiting for someone else to get involved to drive the price up, but I hope Hendry sees through that. I don't know. I do know this, I hope the Cubs don't do business with the O's for a long time after this. Of course, unless they want to reacquire Treshel!

  7. How many times were you Pac-8 Champs?
  8. Once again poor St. Johns can't even make the tourney while the others play on their home court. Thanks for the breakdown and good luck to your Demons.
  9. I'm shocked he only missed so little time. I just hope he isn't rushing back and this injury ends up lingering all year.
  10. Mike Patrick's the definition of the word "tool." Gerald Henderson falls to the floor while holding the ball. He then calls for a timeout. Patrick praises him for a heady play. Elmore says that had to be a travel. Patrick says maybe it wasnt. Elmore says you can't fall with the ball. Patrick says maybe he called timout before he fell. Unreal. Just making excuses up as they go. I've always liked Len Elmore, he's a very solid commentator.
  11. He's mostly played 1B in his career, and is viewed as a *very* good defensive 1B. But he has played some OF and my understanding is that while inexperienced, that he looks pretty natural out there. Not sure about his RF arm. But I think he could sell as a 1B/corner OF utility guy. Thanks a lot craig.
  12. He's a former catcher, after all! That's right and can probably hit better than Hill!
  13. Hey folks was at todays game and although Seans line wasn't that great I was really impressed with his outing. Wasn't a hanging "Slider" but a "hanging" curve and Sean was ahead of all the hitters. His velocity was Mid 90's and since losing the weight he has much better balance. I was little perplexed with his 1st inning of work as he threw the 1st five hitters a steady diet of FB's. Once he started to mix in the offspeed pitches he was much more effective and threw a nice CB to Weeks to K him. It actually looked like he had Cameron fooled but left the CB up there and give Cameron credit he was able to adjust. His SL was working great and although I would say Sean might be a little disappointed with his outing. I would think just the opposite and that he made two bad pitches and learn from your mistakes and move on...... Thanks for the info. The big boys don't let you get away with throwing just fastballs unless they are 100 + movement. I agree, learn from what he did ....right and wrong and grow from it. Those who don't learn and adapt have a hard time making the Big Team. Good luck next time out and we'll be rooting for Sean if it's in Arizona or Florida! :good:
  14. I'd put money on him moving. That depends. Does Hendry like Roberts or does he like him like him. I knew watching "Hey Arnold" with the kids would do me proud some day.
  15. because the Dusty-run clubhouse was a complete clown show. Steve Stone compliments Roy Oswalt and a fine pitching performance and then he has Alou/Mercker calling the booth to complain? what sane manager would allow that to happen? i don't blame him one bit for quitting....the whole situation was a joke That's not what happened. Dippy was the one who complemented Oswalt's performance, which was not actually fine, and Mercker, who was friends with Dippy, called the booth to give him crap as friends are wont to do. Stone then went to the media exaggerating this nonissue and continued to lie about the nature of his conflicts with the players. Steve Stone is not a nice person. you know this how? Though I've never met him, I've heard others say he's very nice in person. I think he got himself into a situation no broadcaster should get into: becoming the story, instead of the reporter. And he handled it badly. But let's be honest, the Cubs clubhouse was a nightmare that year, it wasn't just this one incident. There's blame to be shared all around for '04; it ranks as one of the most disappointing Cub teams of all time. If Stoney can't handle the players that complain, then there is no way he would ever become a GM. That being said, I enjoyed listening to him and I appreciate someone in the booth expressing his feelings when a player screws up. It's bad enough that the "official scorer" gets lobbied for hits and trashed when they don't bend. I agree, that season was disappointing on so many levels.
  16. In a broader sense, does anyone else feel this image captures perfectly what it's like to be a Cubs fan? It does seems that Charlie Brown's shirt should have Cubs written on it.
  17. A good point, especially if the pen gets crowded (in a good way) and the vets fail as starters, he could swing in as a decent 4 or 5. I would have to assume that he would be valuable if Marshall and Gally are used to acquire Roberts. Or, were you talking about using him at short? :stickman:
  18. Ohio State 79, Syracuse 65. Yeah, I knew that stupid game was going to hurt. It was a bad matchup for us because, well...the kids had to play man to man and God forbid they actually move their little feet and be good at it. One thing is...at least matchup wise, we got bounced last year after having a better everything than Marquette and beating them too, and yet it didn't matter. I really don't think they ever do head to heads in "The Committee" Our SOS is very strong but you have to win more games.
  19. This thread is 10 posts longer than I thought it would be! Jake, are your boys ever going to spend some money to win?
  20. How bad do you have to be to fail at Syracuse?!? 8-) He had a couple of classes that he failed but if he was at Illinois, he'd be an Academic All-American! :hello:
  21. Ronny don't do no PBP, though. True. But I'd have to imagine he'd be maddening to listen too if you weren't a Cub fan.
  22. I had a brain freeze for a sec. Having two pitchers in the booth isn't ideal as far as a duo. I was thinking that as well, I usually like catchers as managers and pbp. I'm uncomfortable to the fact that both are also right handed. There's no balance either!
