  1. I wouldn't. Come to Green Bay, Randy. Come to Atlanta, we'll take Daunte. That is the sound of a desperate fan!
  2. My prediction on the players involved: Fuld, Patterson, Cedeno, Veal/Ceda and Marquis for Roberts, Payton and a b Player.
  3. NSBB presents the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.
  4. I wish Davey well and I'm sure he'll beat this.
  5. If Lou does get an extension, I wonder how long Trem will stay, especially if the Cubs finish first again.
  6. Your moms side should be very happy with this one. Are they all WV alum?
  7. I think this is kinda ridiculous. You wrote it yourself-this is Spring Training. The whole point, especially with players a manager has never seen before, is to try various things out and see if they work. Piniella said himself: "I might drop him back down to the two-spot and see what happens." It sounds like he's tinkering with things to see what works best. The last time I checked, that's the point of practice games. Why not? I'd much rather have a manager who tries things (ESPECIALLY in Spring Training) to see what might work best over a manager who is so wedded to his stupid philosophies that he refuses to try anything new. I think his quote here is telling: "Maybe the three-hole might be asking a little much too soon. We might drop him to the two-hole, and he might be more comfortable there." I don't think this has anything to do with "protection," or anything else we flippantly label "old school." I think it has more to do with the fact that Piniella probably believes that Fukudome is trying to drive the ball too much, thus expanding his strike zone, instead of remaining patient and trying to simply get on base. Putting him in the #2 hole might be a way to allow Fukudome to re-establish those facets that make him a good hitter. Most importantly, however, I think an Allen Iverson quote is probably the most important to remember for some perspective here. Practice? You're talking about Practice... Not the games. Practice... You can never go wrong quoting Iverson. It's spring and you're right, it's time to explore. Lou knows enough about baseball and hitting to realize where to place Fukudome and this would drop Theriot down which I would think makes a lot of people happy...not as happy as just dropping the Riot but happy.
  8. So maybe it wasn't all Hendrys fault. If a GM is stupid enough to listen to Baker I suppose they should get what they deserve.
  9. Just go in your cup after you finish your beer like a real fan would. Yeah, but the danger with that is that you can't tell the difference between the pee-cups and the cups filled with Old Style or Budweiser. SELL BETTER BEER, dag nabbit. Jeepers, you'd think the yuppies in the bleachers would have had the Cubs sell Blue Moon by now! Man, the word filter turns "g-dag nabbit" into "dag nabbit?" Ouch. I just wish Wrigley had more of a variety of beers. They don't need to get rid of Bud and Old Style, but come on, mix it up. Here at the Dome we have Bud and Labbatts.
  10. How's Coach Wooden doing after his fall?

  13. Starting to get serious? So it took two months to finally get serious? When a man is a courtin a young woman serious like, it takes some time. You have to ask the Father (Angelos) if it's ok once you agree to take the next step. That could take a while if the dad has special feelings for his kin.
  14. Murton batting 4th, I wonder if this will be for the O's to see? Bruce, please let us know how Cedeno looked in CF.
  15. That is pretty detailed info you have on Wrigley, like you have some kind of insider info. Can you tell me why then they haven't updated the urinals in the men's bathroom at Wrigley. If you've ever been physically stuck in a group of people for five minutes in the new Soldier Field bathrooms while trying to get out, you'd know why. Crossing swords, eh?
  16. So you're saying that they will find broken pieces of a boombox in the pipes? And syringes. It'll be like the curse of the Bambino. The Cubs won't win a world series for 100 years.
  17. Sorry if this has already been posted but would they just build a new stadium/field on the current site or move it elsewhere? I love where it is now.

  19. You know that these things have to be said. I didn't expect it to get any worse then it was. Lou should be the one apologizing though? That's stupid. Marquis should apologize for thinking anyone cares what his opinion is. He hasn't built up the cache to make statements about who should be starting and who shouldn't. Lou was completely in line with what he said. Did Marquis just come out and say these things, or was it in response to a question from the media? If it was in response to a question, I see no reason for him to apologize. From what I've read, he simply expressed a desire to start and that he feels he has earned that right. Nothing indicates that he drew a line in the sand or anything. And how do we even know that he didn't apologize to Lou? If Marquis needed to apologize, why would it have to be a public apology? Lou overreacted, plain and simple. He should have waited to hear Marquis' exact words before responding. Marquis wasn't exactly an All-Star last year, but he's been league-average or better in three of the past four years. Not a staff ace, but an OK back of the rotation guy (although he's getting paid a bit much for that role). As much as he struggled down the stretch last season, I still have more faith in him as a starter than I do in Dempster. He re-iterated what he said though. Sure he put a spin on it, but the man is STILL basically giving this team an ultimatum. Which is total crap. Plus, go back and read Lou's comments. They weren't the explosion some people say it was. He's saying Marquis should earn a spot in the rotation like anyone else. We've got 7 pitchers competing for 5 spots -- that's a good thing for a team, not bad. That's the situation teams *need* to be in at this time of year. And if Marquis wants a spot, then simply earn it. I don't see how there is much wrong with what he said anyway. It's not that he has to earn his spot, it's more the "he can just leave then". That's not really acceptable for a manager to say because it paints the team into a corner with the player. Yeah, there's what you want to say and what you do say. I'm glad Lou feels that the best 5 start but there's no reason to humiliate Marquis in public.
  20. Against the Braves too right... He hit 99 on a fastball then made, I think Marcus Giles, knees buckle with that ridiculous breaking ball of his. My favorite knee-buckler came against the Pirates. Can't remember the year (might have 03 or 04), but his curve was so sharp the hitter actually buckled until he was almost sitting in the box...and it was a strike. I'll bet a great curveball fools an ump as much as it does a batter. Nothing annoys me more than a ump screwing up a great curve and calling it a ball on a 2 strike count.
  21. I'm surprised that they don't keep the water constantly moving like they do for boats on a lake or river to stop the water from freezing in the pipes. Wasn't left field the problem last year, especially regarding Dunn?
  22. We've had 3 injured players out for the year and lost another to grades. Still, I don't like the fact that Boeheim never gives players rest during the game. This has been my beef with him forever. First, he says that they're kids and they should be able to play 40 minutes and then the next game he says they were tired. His lack of faith in kids that are on the bench is killing this team while he overplays guys who don't play hard. Sometimes the guy is just way too stubborn. These kids fad all the time near the end of a game because of this.
  23. Hey, thanks for giving Hart the ball 50 times a game and killing any chance he had of being a pro!
