  1. I mentioned it before and vance said that he played it a little at AA. Wouldn't it be a solid move for him to do this for his career? Even if he couldn't make it with the Cubs he would be a pretty marketable guy if he could play there, catch in a pinch and do 1st/corner OF's. Who do the Cubs have at third in Iowa?
  2. and a lot that are clearly better -- that still makes him either a bad GM or a mediocre one at the very best Define "clearly better?" It is my experience, when I would troll ESPN boards, that fans of other teams considered their GM to be an "average" to "worse" GM then the next team. Oakland fans has had questions about Beane. Even BoSox fans have questioned Theo Epstein. So, IMO, there was only "ONE CLEAR TOP GM" in baseball, and the Braves move him upstairs. So, I don't buy that there are "clearly better" GMs then Hendry. BoSox fans would complain about Jesus making red wine instead of white.
  3. Who knows if Lou is still mad at Fox though. Fox got yanked out of the game immediately after one of his at-bats last August and never got another at-bat for the rest of the season. I'm not sure that he is going to get many chances with the team. Why, what happened to set Lou off?
  4. Why, we still control our own destiny. With a couple of BE wins that would propel them into the mix and above possibly. This is also depending how the other tournaments do this weekend. If we have a Florida and Missouri win their tournaments, this is going to be very tough even with a couple of wins.
  5. He's going to hold quite a grudge when King George's son fires him. That's because Billy's career is mostly dead.
  6. Have fun storming the castle Billy.
  7. Took me a minute to realize who was posting this. Sadly, McCallum would probably keep the players and recruits together. He would bring in his son and IU would probably be a pretty good team until they realize he is Mike Davis re-incarnated. Jeepers raw, you guys should be at the selector phase when it comes to picking a coach.
  8. I'd like to see Fox take some grounders at third. I know he played some third at AA last year. If he could play there and catch in a pinch along with playing 1st and the corner OF's, he might turn out to be a very nice asset.
  9. I hope somebody answered your question. Welcome to the forum!
  10. I'd like to see Fox take some grounders at third.
  11. Boy, once he got enough confidence and challenged hitters instead of picking at corners, he's taken off.
  12. He just turned old enough to have them drop and then this happens.
  13. Lose less than 5 games and I guarantee you'll get a better seed than 8 or 9! Speaking of a 12 seed, It looks like it'll be a winner take all in the Cuse/Nova game. I'm very curious to see how the young guys play in NY this week.
  14. I saw one play that he made which was pretty nice. Of course, we would probably have to see him play quite a bit more than 1 or 2 games to gauge his defensive prowess. I agree. I wonder how he would project hitting wise compared to Roberts. It would be tough to have a middle of Theriot and Patterson if both struggled defensively but I would hope Patterson's bat would help cover that weakness. I wonder if the Cubs would benefit if they put Cedeno and DeRosa out there when Marquis pitches and the weaker fielders when it's a strike out guy on the mound. I briefly mentioned it earlier in this thread. Right now, we're stacked at 2B. We have Fontenot, Patterson, DeRosa, and Cedeno. All capable of playing 2B. Granted, these guys are not Roberts(DeRo is close IMO) I just don't see the reason to trade for Roberts and give up Gallagher whom I think will be needed down the road. I agree...it's that leadoff thing, probably just the need for speed I suppose. I'm more worried about SS, backup 3B and making sure Pie and or Soto hit. I'd like to see Fox step up and take some grounders at 3rd.
  15. craig....I think Lou and the hitting coaches will have a good influence on Pie. I really believe that Lou will help set up Pie to succeed for the long haul.
  16. (a) it was written by the brother of someone who plays for south fayette, which certainly calls his objectivity into question. i also highly doubt that the player was hurling basketballs into the crowd and spouting off racial slurs without any rebuke from the officials or coaches. (b) media reports i saw of the game suggested that the conduct of the South Fayette fans was very unbecoming, and that pryor actually exercised a good deal of restraint until the game was over. given how much media was at the game, don't you think that if he had conducted himself in the way that this piece claims, a real news source would have reported on it? Truffle before Prior signs with OSU above. Truffle after he signs with OSU...I knew he was the scum of the earth after that one article! :-"
  17. Too bad because I'm sure Dusty would have pitched around him to face your 3 hitter.
  18. I'd like to see the Cubs just let him go out there and play year in and year out and improve like he did in the minors.

  20. I know most hitters like to stay in the same spot when it comes to the batting order, I wonder if relievers feel the same way? I'd think they would like to know if they are usually going out in the 7th, 8th or 9th in a close game.
  21. I don't want to whine too much, because the light side wound up winning, but the refs' absolute refusal to ever call a foul on any Duke player in the paint was also very frustrating. Hansbrough got beat up nearly every time he got the ball down low - heck, he even got elbowed in the face - and it's the first game this year that he didn't go to the foul line all game. Anyway, what a game. I think I will remember Danny Green's dunk over Chris Paulus for many years to come. I think it's Greg Paulus, Chris Paul he is not!
  22. How did Patterson look defensively at second?
  23. I wonder if a team that has spent a ton of money and is looking for a player like Hoffpauir to keep it's budget down would go after him if he fit their needs? Is he anything like Diehard a few years ago?
  24. I asked craig if he thought Hoffpauir could play a corner OF position and he thinks he could. Granted he probably is going to be a AAAA type of guy but he may work out pretty well for a team that needs a guy that fits the 1st/corner of/DH/PH mold. I'd like to see him at least get a shot to prove himself.
  25. That's what management says they're going to do. There was a Chat w/ Coonely today on MLB.com . One questioner asked him point blank if the Pirates are in the thick of things, will he have permission to spend money. He replied that ownership has given him the money. To be sure, there is some proof that they'll spend. They offerd Durbin, who signed with the Phillies more than he got there, supposedly. Really, we'll know something when the draft comes. If we're passing on a Matt Weiters type because of money, then we'll know. OTOH, if we draft him, and pay more than slot, that says something positive. A lot will be figured out as the year progresses. Well good luck with that. I wonder if the Pirates just go the scouting route when it comes to spending money, does your team go down south or the Pacific at all? I just never see them looking at Asian players, or at least one of the major players for them. How was attendance during the good times for the Pirates? I thought they struggled to get a lot of fans even though they were winning (Bonds + company), do you think that will change if they do start to do well? It just seems to me that the Steelers are the only ones that don't have any problems there.
