  1. I agree with that but it may depend on matching up the platoon guy for Pie. I do not see the Cubs leaving him in there against lefties and I don't see Fukedome sliding from right to center because of it. Fukedome is fine with center and if Pie does prove to handle hitting at the MLB level, they may switch positions then. You are right, Pie isn't a RF or may not be comfortable there and if they put him there, it'll be another thing he has to adjust too along with trying to hit MLB pitchers. Ok...maybe this move won't work but I was looking for a way to keep Murton's bat in the lineup and getting the most production possible. I just see Hendry getting some cruddy vet to platoon with Pie and being an auto out.
  2. If Wood keeps his weight down and does the work to stay healthy, he should be fine. I trust Lou to put the best pen together and he'll use the guys in the right situations.
  3. If I remember correctly he didn't walk anyone in ST last year, and was very sharp all Spring. I wonder if the innings last year got to him a little. It was the first time he had to pitch that many innings in MLB and that might have worn him a little and the sharpness will come back. Imo, his biggest problem was challenging hitters, once he isn't trying to be cute he has a lot of success.
  4. I'd love to see 2 bizzaro seasons and have Theriot play SS for 150 and DeRosa play 150 and see how it goes, offensively and defensively. I question whether or not Derosa could handle it at SS, I don't know if he has the body control to do it. I think Theriot has borderline range and arm strength to handle the position and I think he's a better defensive SS than Derosa. He could be used in an emergency situation or if Theriot is struggling and they need an extra bat in the lineup, but other than that I would assume that Derosa's glove would play him out of the spot. With that said, I think Theriot is a utility player starting at SS despite him being one for that spot. Back to Pie... I think would consider Fukudome in CF, espec. if Pie starts off slow although I don't think we would see Pie in RF w/Fukudome in CF and I doubt we'll see much of Murton or Ward in RF. Somehow I think Lou was not pleased with his defensive OF last year with Jones, Soriano, Floyd, Ward, and Ward for much of the year. This is why I think they would slide Pie over to right and have him and Murton (if he's still there) platoon and Fuk play CF every day. I don't thing Fukedome would want to slide back and forth from right to center. I'm still not 100% sure Soriano will be able to play over 150 games either.
  5. Ok..he sucks. I'm still bitter over 95, all right! :cray: I thought I was over it until you brought it up again!!!! I Hate Brodeur You guys only hate him because of how awesome he is and how he puts your goalies to shame. Clutch and grab...clutch and grab. If the refs let you do it all game I could be a good goalie! And...have your college stop sending stuff to my son, he is not going to be a Nitney Lion or whatever that thing is!
  6. Would the Cubs ever think about moving Fuk over to CF full time and platooning Pie/Murton in right?
  7. I'd love to see 2 bizzaro seasons and have Theriot play SS for 150 and DeRosa play 150 and see how it goes, offensively and defensively.
  8. Is Hill a notorious slow starter in the spring? A lot of curve ball guys struggle during spring training and have to iron out their stuff.
  9. I agree unless DeRosa has to play SS because Theriot and Fontenot (Cedeno gone in trade) fail at SS. Has DeRosa even played SS this spring?
  10. How old is he? He's always been a solid goalie. Solid? Ok..he sucks. I'm still bitter over 95, all right! :cray:
  11. If he is 20 years old and for some reason the Reds think he needs more seasoning, I suppose it's fine because he's so young. Now if they throw Vitters down, then they have problems. It's far better for the Bruce to not have Dusty around him anyways.
  12. It seems to me once a good team struggles and still wins (especially if they look like they should have lost), they find a way to play better after that.
  13. I don't understand how that was a jump ball in the first place. The Belmont kid has the ball, is tripped and it's a jump ball?
  14. Winthrop is going to be my downfall...darn.
  15. Just trade Z for Crede. Maybe the Cubs could throw in a prospect as well.
  16. I always thought it was interesting and I've read his website stuff. Do any of you think that he has a point and it won't be taught because of the old guard and the fact they don't know how to teach it? Is it possible that his way does work?
  17. dempster is gonna be awful tired if he is both closing and starting. He worked out with Mike Marshall over the winter so he's ready for the challenge.
  18. Fixed....jeeze, what a baby! No, yo momma is the baby. Mamma jokes? Are we on "Remember the Titans"?
  19. Aye, yes it is indeed.
  20. Wuertz would be a decent trading chip, as long as he's not just given away. The Cubs have used up most of his cheapest years. And quite possibly they've used up his best years. He's coming off 3.5 fairly consistent solid years, a pretty nice achievement for most any reliever, aside from the elite. That's not to suggest I want him dealt, or that I think Hendry would be able to get a lot for him. But the Cubs have somewhat of a surplus of solid bullpen arms, and teams do often overvalue relievers. It could be a smart move to try and improve one of the team's weak points by including Wuertz in some trade this year. I agree with you that the percentages are against him. One thing I did like from him is that he seemed to add a nice changeup and if he can throw that, he might be really effective this year. Of course, I'm still worried about him breaking down but throwing more changes would be better than all those sliders he throws. He would be a heck of a trading chip and as you said, some teams really do overvalue the bullpen, esecially when they have injuies or a lack of talent in that part of their pitching staff.
  21. i mean, maybe they got screwed, but they'd lose in the first or second round anyway. that's why i really don't feel too bad for bubble teams that don't get in. which is why two bubble teams should have to play the tuesday play-in game to get in as the 12 seed or something Yeah, they just said that on Mike and Mike. What do you guys think about Bobby Knights idea of having 128 teams? It is just one more game. It won't work out with TV. CBS will not push the Masters back as that event is a cash cow for them. The Masters is on a Tuesday?
  22. Aren't we told here to attack the argument and not the person? This is insulting to people who like his show. Please refrain from personal attacks. Murph is an idiot and does not post here. Ok so then I can say yo momma is an idiot? She doesn't post here does she? No why is she a idiot? You are they idiot if you do not see the difference. Maybe your mama should have decide to have one less child. Wow, burn. OK guys. Let's stop this now or the thread gets locked and warnings are issued. Thanks.
  23. Willits or Figgins? It's gotta be Willits. SH player who can fill in at a bunch of positions, including CF, and is rumored to be sent down to the minors by the Angels. In fact, a Marquis for Willits trade seems so logical, considering the Angels pitching woes (Lackey and Escobar both injured). Angels fans would probably want a prospect thrown in as well. I have the Weurtz feeling about this trade.
  24. Yeah, that's going to make for some quick 1-2-3 innings.
