  1. Well to be honest I looked at the standings in 69 and saw that Chicago was in first place. I then did a little research and liked the little cubbie they had on their uniforms and started following them. Dinosaurs were big with me too back then and if any team had a name with a dino on it I'm sure I would have picked them. I ended up loving Jenkins, Banks, Hands, Williams, Kessinger, Santo, Beckett, Holtzman and Hundley. My first game I saw them play was on TV and they were facing the Pirates and Bob Veal was pitching. The Cubs jumped out to a 2-0 lead and I remember to this day watching Veal take his glasses off and wipe the sweat of his face with a handkerchief on the mound. It just struck me as funny that some guy that was that hot and looked so old could be pitching while in so much despair. The Cubs would surely win this game I thought. A little while later the Pirates started scoring runs like a bad case of diarrhea and the Cubs lost 9-5. The ironic part is that I don't even remember who pitched for the Cubs that day.
  2. How old is Pierre? I thought they have done many studies on "speedster single hitters" and how their production falls after a certain age.
  3. I agree. IMO winning usually breads chemistry.
  4. Bonds and Kent did get into a fight, right? The idea is to defuse that before it happens. My point is that Baker, by playing useless vets, keeps them from complaining thus keeps the clubhouse happy. Rookies don't scream and yell like a vet would because they don't have the power to do so. Didn't the clubhouse fall apart in 2004 and didn't Hendry claim to go after clubhouse/chemistry guys? Yes, Hendry did and that is why there were no problems last year not because Dusty waved his magic dust on them. Look how Perez feels about Baker. Why? Because he plays why in earth would he complain? Macias? The same. Holla? The same. They play more than they should and there is the power of Baker. Yeah, Dusty is a nice guy and I don't don't that for a second but what does he do to to keep the team from acting out of line or constantly screwing up fundamentals? I'll be honest and say I have no clue what goes on behind the scenes on what Baker does to repremend a player but when you see the same type of mental errors over and over again when is enough, enough? So, when Bradley acts up and he will what will Baker do? Us against them? If I hear this again in 2006 this team is over for me until Baker is gone. Let me ask this. What did Baker do to handle Sosa? Did it work?
  5. I agree. I definitely think Hendry will try to pursue other options. I just think Bradley would be a perfect target and would make the perfect project to test Dusty's abilities as someone who can manage a clubhouse. IMO Bakers abilities to manage a clubhouse are to play the veterans. He can't control the players like Bonds, Kent or Bradley.
  6. Seriously, he has much more value than the Dodgers want for him. Imagine Murton, Bradley and Abreu in the OF? :D
  7. I've heard that Delgado does not want to leave Florida. I don't know if he has a no trade to be able to inforce that though.
  8. If Pierre is all the Cubs get while trading Williams I will not be happy. You should receive 30 lashes with a wet toothpick if this happens!
  9. :D Since Zambrano is much bigger how about Z Squared?
  10. When one of the things I heard was Bakers call for arms and of course it was for veteren ones at that. Does anyone remember this from one of the Hendry blurbs and what kind of "vet" pitching does the Walking Dude want?
  11. Very interesting. The Dodgers, Tampa or Phillies perhaps? My guess it's part of a trade that moves Lowell to the Dodgers and brings Pierre to the Cubs. Good point. A major move would be to get Bradley for the Cubs but watch the Fish be the ones that nab him. That makes no sense. Why would the Cubs want Bradley if they have Pierre? The Cubs can put Pierre in right because he has a gun for an arm! :D That's true. I don't want Pierre then and give me Bradley. Then give me Furcal and Matsui/Giles.

  13. Because I would rather have the better hitter (since they have a lot of common traits) hit more. Yes, they only lead off at least once a game but the leadoff guy is always up before the second hitter. Now if it were between Pierre and Murton I would want Murton to bat second even though I consider him a better hitter because of the different things each bring to the plate.
  14. Oh yeah. Would you take: Pierre Perez Lee ARam Matsui Murton Barrett Cedeno Over Furcal Pierre Lee ARam Mench Murton Barrett Perez In 2 shakes. The other good thing about Matsui possibly hitting the open market is that it might depress the bidding for Giles, with another top corner OF available. I think the Yanks would snap up Giles unless he doesn't want to go to NY.
  15. I think Drew Rosenhaus is really Bob Huggins.
  16. Oh yeah. Would you take: Pierre Perez Lee ARam Matsui Murton Barrett Cedeno Over Furcal Pierre Lee ARam Mench Murton Barrett Perez
  17. So in a worst case scenerio Pierre is leading off. If the Cubs can get a true impact bat for right and Baker bats Murton 2nd instead of his boytoy I'd be ok with that. It's just the fact that Perez will be batting second if Furcal is not signed that really bothers me.
  18. I would be fine with that lineup since Bradley has a good bat in CF to help with the lack of power overall in the OF. I just don't see Mr. Hendry going after Bradey though.
  19. Pierre and Castillo for Patterson, Cedeno and Walker maybe? Would we need to throw more into that deal? NOTE: I'm bad at fantasy trades. Are you thinking that the Cubs would be able to sign Furcal? Yes...that would give you Furcal, Castillo and Pierre up the middle. Baker would have the speed and defense that he wants, though maybe too much speed. And in that scenario, Neifi might ACTUALLY BE a backup. I guess having Pierre and Furcal would present a leadoff quandry... IMO I want the better hitter of the two leading off. I'd love to see a team that had a good enough lineup to bat Pierre 8th!
  20. Pierre and Castillo for Patterson, Cedeno and Walker maybe? Would we need to throw more into that deal? NOTE: I'm bad at fantasy trades. Baker would have the speed and defense that he wants, though maybe too much speed. And in that scenario, Neifi might ACTUALLY BE a backup. I would hate to lose Cedeno and the Cubs would need to get a 30/300 guy in right then. If they can do that and the fact that Neifi would be a role player I'd be ok with that. The only thing that would really hurt is when Ramirez goes down for his yearly injury Perez will be there playing 3rd no matter who they have on the bench. If Ramirez is doing his stretching and getting in shape for 2006 that would ease my mind.

  22. Isn't Tellem Nomars agent? Maybe we can give him Nomars house? :D I wonder what the relationship is between Tellem and Hendry?
  23. No. IMO Lee is an impact player while Pierre is overpayed for what he does. Also, if the Cubs are going to move Patterson I would rather see him go in a major deal because I think he would add value to a package Hendry could put together. The Cubs need an impact bat in the OF and getting Pierre takes away one more chance to find one. If Hendry can get an Abreu type hitter for RF that is the only way I would like a deal for Pierre. The pessimist in me just wants the Cubs to get Pierre just to get Perez the heck away from the top of the order. If the Cubs don't land Furcal, Perez will still be batting 2nd with Pierre leading off. That would really bother me.
