  1. Wake Forrest losing keeps another bubble spot open.
  2. Top 50 is generally teams that will be in the tournament. Granted, not all teams in the tournament are equal, but showing the ability to win against the teams that will be in the tournament is helpful to determine whether or not they are worth being in there. I agree with what Jay Bilas said, would team A beat team B in a 7 game series? I just think this top 50 thing is just too random because I would rather play 45, 47 and 49 if this is the case and it helps the Missouri Valley type leagues because they don't have to deal with 3-5 top 25 teams twice each. The MVC has the 19, 23, 25, 35, and 40 teams in the RPI top 50. That's an average of 28, a median of 25. The Big East has the 2, 3, 7, 18, 28, 34, 38, and 41 teams. That's an average of 21 and a median of 23. Not a huge difference. But the thing is that the top 50 thing is included in the RPI thus making my point. Syracuses RPI is worse because of playing UConn and Villanova 5 times and going 1-4 while one of these Missouri Valley teams are playing a 19 at the very best.
  3. I still think if we can have a healthy Prior to start the season and a healthy Wood and Miller to complete the rotation in May that we will be a strong contender this season. If those 3 guys are healthy along with a healthy Z and Maddux the Cubs will be in very good shape. I'm hoping Johnny B uses his pen enough to keep these guys healthy too.

  5. I'm confused on how this top 50 is so important. If team 1 plays the 45th, 47th and 49th teams and goes 2-1 when team 2 plays the 2nd, 8th and 16th and goes 0-3 how does that make team 1 better if they have the same record or close to the same record?
  6. Why wasn't that an intentional foul on Duke? The Duke kid pushes the Wake kid and doesn't make a play on the ball in any way.
  7. What? We aren't talking about the batting order here. We are talking about who should be the starting 2B for the Cubs. The situation you bring up is not exactly related to the topic. If you want to say on the basis that Walker would be a better 5th batter than Hairston that Walker should start, that might be relevant, but I still don't see what it has to do with Jones. There are plenty of thread discussing the lineups, or at least there were. I understand what you're trying to say but I have a question for you. What if Murton is hitting second, who would you rather hit 5th Walker or Jones? Hairston or Jones? Perez or Jones? That is when it does matter who is playing second. I also believe that Walker gives the Cubs the best chance to win if he is the starting secondbaseman.
  8. Duke gets another freebee from a ref....nice intentional foul as he had one hand on the ball the whole time.
  9. We will see and again I hope I'm wrong.
  10. IMO this is the most wide open field of 65 that I can remember. I don't think any team is so dominate that they will just blow teams out and take the trophy and I wouldn't be surprised if a 6 seed or higher wins it all.
  11. From how I read it was that Walker is a 2nd baseman and hits as well as the new expensive free agent the Cubs just signed so why the need to get rid of him? But that is still irrelevant. We should be comparing him to the cost and production of other players who might replace him. Jones has nothing to do with the 2B issue. He won't be the one to replace Walker, so his contract and production are not important in this. It wouldn't matter if Jones was expensive and sucked if there was a cheaper better 2B available, and it wouldn't matter if he was great if there wasn't. If people want to vent about Jones, feel free to do it, it wasn't a very good signing, but this is the wrong thread to do it in. Actually they may have something in common...the 5 slot. If the Cubs put Murton or Cedeno/Perez in the 2 slot Walker may be more qualified to hit 5th than Jones and by far more qualified than Hairston or Perez to hit there.
  12. which players? Horton, Gardner, Brown, Dandridge, Grimes, Lawrence, Douglas, and Lyons. Basically the entire team except for Watkins's son and the walk-on Berardini who didn't play a minute this year. Is Dandridge related to Bobby Dandridge that used to play for the Bucks and Bullets?

  14. Wait, what? Everything I've seen has talked about Walker, Hairston, and Perez all battling for the job. I've seen some stuff that includes Perez, but probably just as many that ignore him as a candidate. What I meant was just what you wrote, Perez hasn't been mentioned as many times as Walker and Hairston. Plus after how the Cubs feel about Perez and what he did for them I'd be shocked if he doesn't play in at least 140 games and start at SS. Add to that if Mabry keeps making errors at 3rd Perez will be the backup there too, yeah it's early but Mabry is getting up there in years.
  15. If Walker can play 1st that will make him even more valuable unless the Cubs see Mabry as a dayoff replacement for Lee.
  16. Because he knows how to walk fine mechanically. No matter how many times you get surgery or other medical help if you keep doing something wrong after it's going to be hurt again. I'd be thrilled to see Kerry ready and pitching by mid-April or May and for him to stay healthy. i don't see why he won't be able to be ready by the 3rd week of april. he sounds fine to me. I hope so Sully. I just don't want him to rush and come back too early thus getting hurt and being out for the rest of the year. I'm also curious on how much of a workout he does in the off season because if he is out of shape it'll take longer IMO. hendry seemed pretty excited about how he was throwing the ball earlier. i can't believe a knee scope will set him back to may. i think he'll make 30 starts this year. I'd be thrilled if you are right. I think he'll make between 17-22 at the very most. Plus with the knee...did Wood come in over weight?
  17. So they built the SEC on Rock n Roll?

  20. What an interesting debate the ESPN guys had. Jay Bilus is the best analyst out there IMO and listening to him argue with Joe Leanardi was pretty informative. Bracket Joe has had 64 out of 65 of the teams in the bracket right for the last 7 years
  21. The second Cedeno struggles he'll never be seen again. IMO, this is why Perez hasn't been mentioned in the 2nd base race, he's going to be the starting SS.
  22. Wow...the SEC doesn't get any TV love? I'm really surprised. Thanks for the schedule T squared.
  23. You can probably blame the weather for that. It was a cool day by Phoenix-area standards (low 60s with a pretty good breeze). Most people were actually wearing long sleeves or jackets. I'm assuming that a cool day with a tank top would have made Vance a very happy boy.
  24. Great pictures NCCF! So they let your date throw the first pitch...that was nice of the Cubs.
  25. Nice win. It's also nice to see Boeheim being his old fiesty self...I missed him acting like that. Man, that was awesome. And he is right. w/o McNamara, Syracuse wouldn't have won those 10 games. *ahem* McNamara overrated? I think not! Man, McNamara is amazing. It's nice to see him finally hitting those shots again and the other guys stepping up. I just hope it continues into the NCAA's but I'm worried that GMac is once again injured. Plus, Pitt grabs and clutches more than the Patriot's defensive backfield. They're like playing an old YMCA team.
