  1. Interesting that Baker let him (Marshall) hit. I understand that he wants the MLB pitchers to hit but to let Marshall hit might be a good sign that he might be considered a 5.
  2. When I see him in the starting lineup April through May I'll believe that Jon.
  3. I hope Harvey works out b/c I'd hate to see RF become like 3rd base after Santo left Hawk Sammy Burnitz Jones ??? Speaking of not having a clue at the plate I hope Harvey learns some pitch recognition this year. I think the Cubbies will have a decent RF by 2010. I think this Santo thing was too hyped up and don't forget about Madlock because he was a heck of a hitter.
  4. At least Jones only got himself out. True. He may do that a lot this year if he continues to swing like that.
  5. Why does Moore have a clue on what to do at the plate and Jones does not?
  6. I don't like the way Jones swings. It's like he closes his eyes and swings his bat and has no idea where the ball is going.
  7. Hendry's happy now so he can now trade Marshall for a Graffenino. :D
  8. Len's comment was in regards to the fact that it was a left handed batter without batting gloves wearing #17. Maybe it's time he put some on so he can hold onto his bat.
  9. Maybe he was smoking in the dugout before his AB like Grace used to do.
  10. everyone rags on hill for having a below average fb, but i don't think i've seen marshall top 90 yet. i don't understand why marshall's stock has risen so high above guzman's and hill's. He hit 91 already today. I like Hill but as I said I don't like the way he falls behind hitters. You just can't do that at this level.
  11. Impressive hustle by Juan on a routine grounder.
  12. He's gotten away with a couple so far. He's a little up too but what I like is that he isn't nibbling.
  13. How far is Marshall going to go today? I like this kid.
  14. I like the way Marshall challenges the hitters. Hill would be wise to do so too.
  15. What about Keith Smart? Isn't he out there coaching in the CBA or an assistant coach in the NBA? Beilien from West Virginia might be a good choice. Maybe even Gene Hackman...they could run the picket fence all day long.
  16. The asterisk was next to Maris' record, commenting on how he achieved it in 162 games not 154. Is that what you are referring to? Yeah, I meant the guys that broke it will have one.
  17. So once again the original Ruth record will have an asterisks.
  18. You're supposed to proof read before you post?
  19. If only ARam had Lee's speed. I wonder who would win a race between Blanco and Aramis.
  20. Using common sense like that is going to get you into a heap a problems. Next thing you'll say is that the Cubs should platoon Jones so watch out.
  21. 2005 NL average walk rate = .0845 2005 Aramis Ramirez walk rate = .0694 I'm curious on how many times ARam swings and misses/or fouls and if this effects his walk rate. A lot of hitters foul off or miss a pitch and perhaps ARam doesn't do that as much thus skewing those numbers. There is a strong correlation between a player's swing/miss ratio (or contact percentage) and his strikeout rate. There's also a pretty strong relationship between a player's take/swing ratio and his walk rate. Some pitch seqence data for Aramis over the past few years, as well as the average numbers for third basemen in 2005: CP% T/S B% CS% SS% FB% FC% 3B Avg. 81.0% 1.20 36.9% 16.8% 8.1% 16.8% 19.8% 2005 81.8% 1.00 35.9% 12.9% 8.5% 18.6% 22.2% 2004 83.3% 0.96 35.9% 11.9% 8.3% 20.0% 22.4% 2003 80.4% 0.93 34.8% 12.3% 10.1% 20.6% 21.1% (Contact percentage, Take/Swing ratio, and % of pitches that resulted in balls, called strikes, swinging strikes, foul balls, and fair contact.) Aramis is generally less patient that other third basemen, swinging at more pitches than he takes. He makes contact at pretty a similar rate, though. Interesting stuff BK...thanks.
  22. Is there a stat that has swings and misses? It seems like ARam's P/PA is effected by the fact that he doesn't swing and miss that much. He also may be really good at hitting his pitch when he sees it.
