  1. Penn State should have never left their true roots then. What could happen...well possibly happen is that Rutgers wins out. If this happens there is no doubt in my mind that the SEC or Big 12 winner would go to the BCS Championship. No way Rutgers can jump over all those teams.
  2. Let's not forget how that 03 Cubs team made the playoffs. PITCHING The Dodgers had a team ERA of 3.16 that year and they missed the playoffs. The Cards had clutch pitching. Yeah, that's the ticket.
  3. At the same time? Cool, I hope he gets a guy that can do that!
  4. I see a 4 yr deal as well with either a buyout or vesting options for 2 additional years making it potentially worth 6 years. ARam and his agent are squeezing Hendry in a vice grip. But it's Hendry's fault for handing them the vice grip. I thought it's been reported that MacPhail was the one that gave him the out clause that caused all this trouble. It's too bad the Cubs didn't have an out clause for MacPhail years ago.
  5. Wow....a friend of mine just played ball with him a couple of weeks ago in Copperstown. 61, that's just too young.
  6. however, as vance mentioned, with sutcliffe, we get the added possibility of him being drunk. Could a Namath/Sutcliff booth be that far off? "Come here Ricky...gimme a kiss" "I'll tell you what Joe, you put those panty hose on and you got yourself a deal".
  7. I'm counting Hill as a 5 possibly 4 until he proves he can pitch as well as he did at the end of 2006.
  8. The perceived value was only there because Hendry was dumb enough to fall for it. If Cincy wanted him, why wouldn't they have made a move for him last year while they were in the thick of a playoff hunt? The Dodgers were trying to dump Izturis all of last year. They had zero need for him. None whatsoever. No one came a calling. Except Hendry. If all the Dodgers had to offer was another run of the mill, light hitting, all fielding utility infielder, he should have just let Maddux finish out the year as a Cub. The list is getting pretty extensive lately. Damian Jackson, Rey Ordonez, Neifi Perez, Freddy Bynum, Ronny Cedeno, Tony Womack, Alex Gonzalez, Ramon Martinez, Jose Hernandez, Augie Ojeda, Jose Macias, Jerry Hairston Jr., Enrique Wilson and now Cesar Izturis. 14 craptacular utility infielders just since 2003. Hit us all in the head with a hammer again, Hendry. We enjoy it immensely. Bynum scored 23 points for the Lakers yesterday, maybe he just chose the wrong sport?
  9. 25,000 isn't really that much. O:) Didn't Grudz accuse the owners of collusion in 2004? Poor Mark, doesn't get any compensation for that. Well the Union is happy to get the 12 million. It's too bad they don't use that money to help the pensions of the former players who blazed the trail for the current players to make so much money.
  10. Someone tell me why LSU deserves to be ranked so high as a 2 loss team? If they beat a decent team I could see why but they haven't. Why don't I see the media complaining that the ACC doesn't deserve a BCS bid like they did with the Big East? Didn't a 4 loss Florida St team go last year and it's possible that the team that goes this year will have at least 2 losses.
  11. I've wanted him for years. To play for the Cubs or for other reasons? :player:
  12. I wish he could lend some insight as to why there doesn't seem to be a sense of urgency on the part of the Cubs. It sure seems like Hendry is being extremely casual about this. Does he not know that Ramirez would likely be the best FA available if he opts out? Wasn't he quoted towards the end of the season as saying that he'd like to get it done a couple weeks after the season ended? What happened to that plan, Jim? Sadly, this is typical Hendry. Wait, and wait, and wait. And just wait-we'll end up with Scott Moore at 3B. Why? Alex Gonzalez isn't doing anything right now, he could play 3rd.
  13. Maybe a little talk with Billy Beane. I like what Lou says about woirking the count. Don't just take pitches without a plan, have a plan and work it the way a hitter should by making a pitcher pitch and hit your pitches and not his.
  14. Not sure I'm on board with that. I place an equal priority on a stud hitter and a stud pitcher. I think if we lack either one this offseason we will be pressed to be WS-worthy in 2007. What do you define a stud hitter and a stud pitcher to be? Well, ARod + Daisuke would make me happy. There are other combinations that would also qualify, but it would be tough to list them all. Well, Mr. Hendry wants the list on his desk by zero 800.
  15. Ha, yeah. There's no way he's going to get a $20M per year contract. Yeah you're right, maybe 22. I wonder if Boras is privy to some information that we don't have, like how much money the owners have REALLY been making.
  16. If it means adding strength to the far more important rotation and lineup, hell yeah. Right on! :afro: Make a deal that improves your team, it's just that simple.
  17. I always wonder if a guy like that could ever learn how to throw righthanded if he won't ever be able to throw left handed again.
  18. We're still waiting. What was this thing of value Hendry got in return for Maddux? You'll see when Hendry trades Izturis. Be patient grasshopper.
  19. Translated by Babelfish: Better translation: "Everyone knows how Lou Piniella is; he's an intense man, but he is also a good manager". Or: "I'm out of here because I'm very lazy" Kidding.
  20. So, we should still receive compensation for Pierre. I won't mention Aramis, because I'm expecting Hendry to give him whatever he wants to stay. Isn't he a type 4-3 Free Agent? What the heck would the Cubs get for that I wonder.
  21. The Mississippi Leg Hound sends the runner home and he scores!!!! All that's left is the hitting and 1st base coaches, correct? So far I'm pretty happy with the staff Lou has assembled.
  22. Not sure I'm on board with that. I place an equal priority on a stud hitter and a stud pitcher. I think if we lack either one this offseason we will be pressed to be WS-worthy in 2007. What do you define a stud hitter and a stud pitcher to be?
  23. Bud Black, Bob Geren, and Ron Washington are also candidates for the position. UK will be jealous. The A's have some nice choices by the looks of it.
  24. It's possible that the Yanks will help with Sheffs salary too depending on who they recieve.
