  1. Braun didn't jam his wrist. They double switched to avoid pulling a reliever for a PH. Hunter Pence slammed the wall last night harder than anyone I've ever seen, and he didn't come out of the game. And Houston isn't playing for anything. There is no excuse for what Yost did last night, but I'm not complaining. Were they winning or was it tied? They were up 2-1 in the 7th. This wasn't a move made for double switch purposes (they substituted Jenkins in for Dillon at the same time). They take Braun every time they are leading late for defensive purposes, and that's what they did here. So he did what he always does. Have Brewer fans or most importantly the team complained about this before? Is this guy a terrible fielder? It certainly doesn't sound like taking out Lee to me if he isn't a good defensive player. Even though Lee's defense has been rather Durhamish of late!
  2. If not they will find some obscure technicality to stop him from buying the Cubs.

  4. Screw the Wings. You know what really feels weird? Being in a bitter, bitter rivalry that is so one sided, that the other team barely realizes it is a rivalry. Oh well. The Blues should compete for a playoff spot this year. Good D, solid goaltending and hopefully a rejuvenated Rucinsky, Tkachuk and Kariya with a developing Stempniak-McClement-Backes line and the always solid Doug Weight. http://images.usatoday.com/sports/hockey/_photos/2006-06-24-johnson2-fr.jpg Yep, the Wings have had the Maple Leafs, Blues, Hawks and now Nashville as the teams they battle for the top of the division. I'm curious on how the salary cap will effect them in time though. Ah yes, the Stevie Y goal in the 1-0 OT win over your Blues was one of the best games I've ever seen. That was glorious.
  5. I'm sure that you're not the only one, the stuff was marked down 90% after a week around here.
  6. He looked like he pulled that one out of his kazoo. That was a heck on an inning and he could have folded after the error too, but didn't.
  7. I think there would be a hell of a lot more laughing at Wisconsin if that happened. doubtful considering nobody cares about Wisconsin around here I do. I'll be at the game. If Iowa wins it really wouldn't be that big of an upset. Iowa defense looks very good thus far and Wisconsin has been less than stellar in all 3 of their victories. This is a rivalry game and anything can happen. If I was a betting man I would probably take Iowa and the points. I meant the Iowa City area, but I agree about the rest. I knew Iowa State would give us fits because they treat it as their Super Bowl every year -- their fans don't care if they win any of their other games. I liked Wisconsin a lot going into the season, but they've really looked not so hot. Iowa needs this one to get rid of some of the embarrassment of last week. That's why I really enjoy those rivalry games. The season could be complete trash but at least you always have that one game to get up for.
  8. Go Wings! It just feels so weird rooting for an organization that actually competes year in and year out for the Championship. I hope they can get to the finals sometime soon.
  9. I couldn't understand the double-switch for Braun though. And then the pitching stuff too. He's made some bad decisions. I think some players were grumbling about his decision-making earlier in the year too. He's the guy who had the fortune of riding the wave when all these prospects hit the majors though, so he's the one who is up for an extension if the Crew makes the playoffs. That's how it works I guess, the other guys might have actually been better but they didn't have the timing. Heck I don't deny that he may have made a bad move but I've seen a coach win X amount of games in a row coaching a certain style. Everybody loves him and then he loses a couple and those same fans question those moves, the same exact types of moves he's made before. What did Yost do, the whole situation? I think the thing that's being said today is the fact that Yost went to Turnbow with inherited runners, something he has shown he can't do. And then he went to Wise who has been just drop dead terrible in the 2nd half. The Braun situation I don't know the full story, I just know when I switched to the game he was out. To me that's like double-switching Lee out of the game. Maybe I'm wrong and I fully admit to not knowing the whole situation there, but how does that make sense unless Braun is struggling? Maybe Braun jammed his wrist or something? On paper it may have been a bad move but who knows why he made these moves.
  10. I think you look at every option you have and see if you can improve it. You have to take into account Marmols mental/physical toughness too which I would hope the Cubs have a good grasp on. If the Cubs can get a Tejada, just for example, and have Marmol moved into the rotation and they can get another guy almost as good, is that better than the current team with an upgrade at RF as the main acquisition? I just think you have to look at the whole picture.

  12. I think there's a plethora of data that be included to these ballpark stats that isn't. I don't like those one season broad based numbers. The elements, especially in Wrigley and SF change so much wind wise and others maybe with rain. Add to that the pitchers and hitters and who plays when and how. Just too many unknown variables for me.
  13. He actually caught a ball that wasn't hit right at him and he's complaining about the field?
  14. Sorry, I couldn't read your post as my head was turned the other way. Why wouldn't athletes have these things shipped to a friend that they could trust instead of getting them sent directly to their homes with their name on it? I mean that's Pete Rose dumb. PO Box listed with dummy corporation set up in Aruba or someplace like that. Or just send a friend on the private jet down to pick it up in person with a cash payment. sheesh. This stuff isn't hard! No it isn't and I'm sure many many players did do it in the ways you said plus more. Like a friends glove box in his car...I kid I kid.

I mean that's Pete Rose dumb. no fear of getting caught Yep, that's Pete Rose dumb all right.
  16. I don't there has ever been a manager who has made the right move every time. Nope, never. Some may make decisions that make us scratch our heads but even then we don't have all the info they have avaliable.

  18. That was a real nice slide at home by the Red that was thrown out by Soriano. Horrible jump and effort. And thanks!
  19. I think both A&M and Miami are slightly above avg teams so not sure a whole lot will be determined. This is one of those games where I think the home team will win. Assuming you meant Applewhite, he bolted from Rice to Bama to become Saben's OC. He grew up a big Alabama fan, pretty sure his dad played for them. Rice is very bad this year and very young. Major did a great job for them last year, but this year's team is going to get smoked by at least 50 in Austin. Plus I will be at the game and in Austin all weekend, so I hope for a beating ;-). I am going to say 56-3 with Sweed getting 3 td receptions. I'm not sure if I am more excited for the game with the clubhouse tickets or hitting 6th Street. Either way I might not remember a whole lot of it. You've had more of your boys have been arrested than Syracuse has TD's! :D I always say Applegate for some reason. I thought he went somewhere else but I wasn't sure where. The A&M game will give us the 7 degrees of Kevin Bacon because of who they played and will play. Enjoy your day with the Horns!
  20. And he'd love the new trolley system they have out there.
  21. I'm sure they will and I'm sure it's not that big of a deal to them. But it is a little ridiculous that the Astros throw out 3 garbage, no-name pitchers in games that are supposed to matter. The Cubs often have problems with pitchers like that! :D
  22. Now if the home run was hit in Florida would anyone even know it happened?
  23. I understand the feelings you all are having but I hope the Cubs stay focused on what they have to do and not anything else.
  24. Yeah, the day Bonds left they went all to heck and as CiNY said, they are mismanaged and just seemed to give up after that.
  25. Is it possible that Patterson is a future CF?
