  1. They're the sexy choice. Eh. Maybe for ESPN, but BP wouldn't be picking them if they didn't really think they should win. True. Watch the DBacks play the "underdog" card to perfection.
  2. They're the sexy choice. And I don't understand why. The Cubs got their butts handed to them by every NL contender not named Milwaukee. I think they can win the series, but I don't see how they can be considered the favorite. Sure, the rest of the country seems to want to see the Cubs win, because of the story, but I don't see how that makes them the favorite. They have the bigger names and more veteran players.
  3. They're the sexy choice.
  4. No, the game was last night. They lost. Did that knock them out of the playoffs?
  5. The Cubs are playing today? When?
  6. He'll sleep like a baby throughout the whole game.
  7. I hope I'm not dreaming when the Cubs are playing. Unlike Bob, I'm old and fall asleep too easily when it gets to be 11 or so.
  8. If he did that then we'd be calling you Coco instead!
  9. I don't think the Cubs have ever swept a series, correct?
  10. Yeah, Byrnes, Young and Reynolds (and Jackson to a lesser extent) have been adamant about defending themselves against Pythag. It's kind of funny how big a deal something like that has become in the mainstream media. I think the only 2 other teams to make the playoffs with a minus in RS/RA were the 84 Royals and Padres a couple of years ago. Those teams won 84 and 83 games respectively. This years Diamondbacks are kind of a oddity. A first in baseball history if you must. Winning 90 and making the playoffs with a losing Pythag. I think that is why the mainstream media is picking up on it. I will say that if "knowing how to win" was such a valuable skill, how come more teams havent done it in history. Also if "knowing how to win" was such a skill how come the 84 Royals and 05 Padres got eliminated from the playoffs rather quickly. I heard on Mike and Mike that the 87 Twins were the only one to have ever won a playoff game. The others were all swept and they said the others but I don't remember who they were.
  11. It's a late couple of games, how are you preparing yourself to keep awake? Especially if you get up early for work, what kind of ritual are you doing?
  12. I believe that it's Bartman to hero not goat to hero, according to ESPN.
  13. Not in the one game at the one moment in time when we needed him to be. It just palmed him though. You read the hop and it palms him, funky play. A fraction of a second eye off the ball and boom.
  14. I think it's the word sensor because if I write Jones it automatically makes it Fukudome.
  15. That's silly...Zito's a pitcher...Jones is a CF...duhhhhh :P And Zito is a better hitter.
  16. Instant replay of the fancam might not be a bad idea.
  17. I can't remember if they put her at 60'6" or not, but I know they had a little competition to see how she could do against a major league hitter a few years ago. Richie Sexon got the chance to try to hit about 20 pitches from her. I think he made contact with 2 or 3 of them and generally looked awful at the plate. She wasn't throwing from 60'6. It was from softball distance. and he strikes out a lot anyway If she were to throw a baseball from 60'6", my guess is a fastball that tops out around 80 with little movement. They have as many pitches as MLB pitcher does, the drop ball and curves along with change-ups.
  18. Andy Marte Thanks Bob...he was a top prospect wasn't he? Maybe they didn't buy low.
  19. What did Atlanta give up to get Renteria? For some reason I was thinking they bought low when they got him.
  20. I agree. What does bug me is a lazy ump that is way out of position though.
  21. Not that this one matters, but I think the flood gates are starting to open. It looks like it was worth it according to that contract. He'll never have to work again.
  22. Yep, as long as they follow the rules like any other pitcher. I'd like to see Jennie Finch pitch a baseball at 60' 6" and see how she does.
  23. Probably not. But hey, at least they overpayed for a good player this time! True and let's hope his year continues like Roast said!
