  1. ^^^great piece, thanks for sharing!!
  2. Not certain what you’re referring to with “lipped” comment, and I don’t know why Peppers would denounce playing in GB. But my comment was just a little bit of fun. Whatever. Hester definitely was the best Punt Returner the NFL has seen, so well deserved for a position not often thought of for the Hall.
  3. Glad to see two former Packers make it into the HoF! 😁
  4. Joe Barry has been a good positional coach throughout the course of his coaching career. It's one of the reasons he's had multiple opportunities as a DC. But he's been a disaster, arguably, as a DC. If the Bears hired him as the DC, it would most likely be in name only as Eberflus would probably retain the playcalling/schemes.
  5. This was a foregone conclusion of many/most Packers fans for over a month. HC LaFleur seemed to tip his hand around the time of the b2b losses to NYG and TB. Too much talent/high draft picks on defense to be three years running a bottom 5 DVOA.
  6. So what you’re saying is a first year starting QB with no running game (and all first or second year WRs and TEs) isn’t going to be as successful as the same QB with a successful ground game? Interesting. Of course Jones success is going to help to QB/passing game as the defense won’t be playing a one dimensional offense. But your statement seems to really be a generality not really based on the numbers. On Nov 19, Jones had 4 carries and 2 targets before leaving the game with an injury. He missed every game after that until Dec 17. Some of Love’s stats in those games Jones missed: Nov 19 Chargers - 108.5 QBR, 2 TDs, 0 INTs Nov 23 @ Lions - 125.5 QBR, 3 TDs, 0 INTs Dec 3 - Chiefs - 118.6 QBR, 3 TDs, 0 INTs Dec 11 - @ Giants - 76.7 QBR, 1 TD, 2 INTs Those stats don’t really support your statement although it’s only 3 1/2 games. Of course Jones being on the field helps the passing game. That’s Football 101. But maybe it’s just that he got better as the season went on. Over the course of his last 12 games (including the two playoff games), Love had a QBR over 108 NINE times. He also threw 26 TDs and only 5 INTs. I would wager to say Live and his young receiving team just got better as the season progressed. Just my two cents.
  7. Aidan Hutchinson is left-handed. Wonder if the Bucs' line is prepared for that.
  8. Hackett wasn't really implementing LaFleur's system. And LaFleur wasn't even really implementing his own system fully. With Rodgers at QB, he did so many checks and audibles at the LOS (for good or bad) that it was really just a hybrid of LaFleur's offense, IMO. YOu could say AR was to Co-OC, Love, because of his lack of experience (compared to AR), mostly runs what LaFleur calls. And while not overly successful the first half of the season (for a variety of reasons), the offensive play-calling has been pretty amazing the past 10 weeks. LaFleur mentioned in his first season as HC that his offense would "scheme guys open". Yesterday's scheme was about as "open" as any player could be on a consistent basis.
  9. So, clearly, what he tells the media is exactly what his intentions are.
  10. I'd have been more impressed if he did it while strumming a guitar.
  11. Maybe he could do the Dex/ST arrival.
  12. Jerod Mayo new Head Coach of the Pats.
  13. Found on Twitter/X (don't know how to embed): Amicable parting with Bill Belichick marks another happy ending for Patriots owner Robert Kraft
  14. Don't know how often Dodgers/Friedman "win" trades, but they don't seem to lose too many (Yordano, possibly Cruz). I really like Ferris as an up-and-comer, but he's still a few years away as mentioned. And a lot can happen to change a prospect's value between A Ball and the Bigs.
  15. Counterpoint - Justin is a steele at any price.
  16. CLiff Kingsbury for OC, anyone?
  17. I see a team "trading up" to get him, which would probably be a mistake.
  18. And maybe the Marlins throw in cash. Half his salary saves the Marlins over $8 million. Or maybe they add Bell and his full contract to a Luzardo deal.
  19. Doug Peterson was NOT fired, but he fired basically his entire Defensive staff - the DC. DL coach, passing game coordinator/CBs, ILB coach, S coach, Sr Defensive advisor, among others. They lost 5 of their last 6 giving up an average of almost 30 points/game.
  20. Looks like Mike Vrabel is out in Tennessee.
  21. I get what you're saying because the draft is mostly an exercise in luck - misjudged ability/ceiling, injury, system, etc. At the end of the day, though, the top personnel person(s) have to make a decision. And I don't think you just assume, in the example above, that the three WRs projected to be top 10 picks are all the same., and any of the three fill the need the same way. If you believe one to be/not to be a standout, you may consider making the move. I'm not suggesting "trade-ups" are the way to go. As mentioned by someone else, ill-advised trade-ups are magnified. But there are plenty of instances where trade-ups were great moves.
  22. I don't know if it's as simple as this statement seems to make it. The "industry" consensus on similarly skilled players is very often wrong. It happens every year, especially in the top 10 to 20 picks. You'll have clusters of positional players rated the same and a few years into careers, you'll see huge differences in performance. Just because Mel Kiper thinks two or three WRs are all going to be stars doesn't make it so.
  23. So keep first overall and trade up for whichever of the three are preferred and available. Just seems like any commentary has been trading out of #1 instead of trading up from #9.
  24. Speculation about the Bears trading back from the #1 pick to #3 or #4 so they could grab MHJ. Any thought of them keeping the first pick and then trading up with AZ to the #4 spot for Harrison, Jr.? Give up next year's #1 (and maybe some other pick(s) and they get the two best players in this year's draft.
  25. These draft projections are mostly meaningless until the combine and/or individual workouts. There will be plenty of risers and fallers. The big name schools with the big time players get most of the glory, but then relative unknowns start popping out at the combine. Fun exercises, but mostly pointless.
