Why was it stupid to leave Marshall in for more than 1 inning??? he's not a loogy, and he's been effective in the pen. tonight, he just happened to be better in the 7th than the 8th. -
Why Marmol? I know he hasn't pitched in a couple of days, but isn't this the perfect time for one of the rookies or even Shark?

They need to put hawks call at the end of buerhreehrle's perfect game in a time capsule for a later reminder of what not to do in the booth. Three run homer by the Rays after two consecutive BBs. Hawk bitching as if 2 lf the 3 runs shouldn't count because the batters reached via BB. It's really fun to listen to in a weird kinda way!! :rotfl:

For what it's worth....when the Cubs are sucking, it's always fun to flip on the White Sox, especially when they're losing. Hawks rants are pure genius!!!! :-)) Complaining that Buehrle shouldn't be charged with 3 of the 6 ER he gave up because of a "team error" (foul ball not caught by Konerko or Beckham). While his logic is correct, his bitterness is classic stuff!

Make 'em put the ball in play, hard hits or otherwise. There's 9 fielders to make a play (countdown to a Soriano comment). Beats giving hitters a free base via walks!! They're not "just outs." It's the same as looking at a hitter who has been largely unlucky because they're hitting the ball hard but right at defenders. If a pitcher is getting wailed on for several innings it's not a good sign even if they're almost all loud outs. It's much more encouraging to see him have something like the 4th as opposed to guys continuing to see him well. Agreed. And I'd still rather see the other team hit to get on as opposed to free passes. As evidenced by this game, loud outs are....outs.

What to do with the rotation when Lilly is activated?

Silva goes to the pen. He's pitched in relief a lot more in his career than Gorzelanny (same reason I think Marshall wound up in the pen). He and Marshall would be the two 7th/8th inning veterans. And with one being right handed and the other left, that can be an advantage when a match up is necessary. Silva also doesn't walk batters either which is huge in late inning close games. Zambrano -R Lilly - L Dempster - R Wells - R Gorzellany - L Marmol - R Marshall - L Silva - R Gray - R Grabow - L Russell - L Berg - R Nice combination of righties and lefties all around. While I don't think the BP is gonna be great (in its current form), isn't the sample size of it's performance pretty small to get too alarmed just yet? I'm not thrilled with some of the younger guys performances yet, but I'm willing to give them more than just a couple of innings to show something. And with Lilly coming back, one of the vets (most likely Silva as he's a righty to compliment Marshall) will be added. A week and a half into the season is a bit early to panic.

Don't know if it matters much, but Marshall has come out of the pen a heck of a lot more in his career than Gorzelanny has. Maybe it's not so much who the better starter would be, but rather, who the better guy out of the bullpen would be.
