  1. CJ give up a leadoff single (to start the 2nd) followed by a two-bag error by Kalish. After a Sac Fly, he's walked back-to-back hitters.
  2. Even Brett Jackson 10 Ks in 22 ABS, but 8 RBI!
  3. Felt bad for Vogelbach, Johnson and Alcantara.
  4. The Anti-Jeffrey Leonard.
  5. Ask Kevin Gregg.
  6. Maybe #29's sister shows up! \:D/ And you can always run the bases!
  7. Favorite. Cub. Ever. Modeled my wiffle-ball swing as a kid after his. Even would occasionally limp when I ran the bases (doubles, of course). Was a bat boy during a ST game in '84 and sat by him briefly on the bench. Really wanted his bat after the game but got Ryno's instead (back when he used a black one, like Buckner). Also got a Mel Hall bat. Game was stopped during play so I could run sun glasses out to CF for Henry Cotto.
  8. And if memory serves correct, the amazing October was preceded by a disastrous August/September in which a 13-14 game lead was whittled down to 1 1/2 with 2 or 3 to play. That season was close to becoming the greatest choke of all time.
  9. In 2012, the White Sox were fundamentally sound. They played excellent defense, they ran the bases well and were pretty good at situational baseball. They were a veteran team with a 1st year manager that almost won the division. Fast forward 1 year and they are not fundamentally sound. They are terrible on defense, run the bases awful and are poor at situational baseball. They may be the worst team in the league. I know the players on the field are usually mostly responsible for their play, but at what point is the manager and/or coaching staff MORE responsible?? This is essentially the same team from last year. The biggest difference is Ventura inherited a team from Ozzie, possibly a team that was fundamentally sound. And in 1 year, their play has gotten significantly worse. If it were just production, the age/ability of all those vets could maybe be blamed. But they are just a completely different team (aside from pitching). I really think Ventura's easy going approach has allowed the team to underachieve. They don't field well, can't hit the right cutoff man, run the bases terribly, can't move runners over or get them in from 3rd with less than 2 outs, etc. How did all of this change so dramatically from one year to the next with essentially the same team if it isn't the coaching???
  10. I beg to differ. They are exceptionally fun bad! I love it every day!
  11. Kevin Gregg has not had a 1,2,3 inning in his last 11 appearances covering 12 innings. June 30 was the last time he went 3 up, 3 down. In July, he has 8 Saves, 2 BS (both Cubs eventual wins), 1 Loss, 14 hits allowed, 11 BB, 6 K and a 5.25 ERA. Not so good. #-o
  12. ...goes the dynamite! ...goes the dynamite! :D
  13. And yet, somehow still funny!
  14. Garza's line versus the Yanks: 7.1 innings, 5 hits, 5 Ks, 0 BB, 1 Run, 0 ER, left with bases empty and a 2-1 lead.
  15. Lucky Davis, eh.
  16. Did I read the Box Score correctly? Bryant was 0-5 with 5 Ks for Boise?? #-o
  17. This is correct...heard it from Len on the broadcast.
  18. That's a bigger problem in airport bathroom stalls. :-s
  19. ALWAYS. *typo - should have originally stated "aren't next year's top prospects".
  20. Just a few minutes ago, Hawk and Steve were discussing Peavy. Hawk said, and I quote, "The only thing that counts, it's not ERA. It's Ws." Steve countered with, "Personal and Team Ws". Go figure. Not a peep about TWTW, though.
  21. Isn't the goal of most trades to get the best play(s)/prospect(s) possible, even if your organization has a player(s) at that position? Prospects acquired this year for Garza may prove to be centerpieces in future deals if they're not destined to stay in the Cubs' org. Also, this year's top prospects (especially in AA and below) * aren't always next year's top prospect. Look at guys like Olt, Maples and Jackson. *typo - should have originally stated "aren't next year's top prospects".
  22. Sounds like he was pulled for not hustling on a groundball DP that the SS actually bobbled. Had he hustled, Soc score a run.
  23. Have two questions/comparisons: How would any of you compare Sale's herky-jerky motion with regard to stress on his arm/elbow/shoulder versus Wood's cross-body motion? Sale looks like he's always a pitch or two away from significant injury. How is Sale's velocity/control/dominance compared to Prior's during Mark's first couple of years? Other than throwing with different arms, they seem very similar. Sale's 3/4 motion may make it more difficult for a lefty to hit him versus a righty against Prior.
  24. I'm not watching and am still trying to figure which is more exciting: this or the NBA Slam Dunk Contest. Both are so crazy-different from year to year. Is Chris "My-schtick-used-to-be-funny 25 years-ago" Berman announcing?
  25. Notice how he goes for the bite just as that lady's "Cardinal fan" husband is looking down! Very sneaky!!
