  1. Fox and Craig both walk in the 5th, Craig getting the go-ahead RBI in the process. The North then gets 2 more to take a 4-1 lead.
  2. In the SL All Star game, Jake Fox got a single in the 1st inning and Matt Craig grounded out. Fox flied out in thr 4th, and Craig got a bloop single. South leads 1-0 after 3 1/2.
  3. Now, after they introduced the North All-Stars we get sound again. But it is fun getting to see these guys instead of just the radio.
  4. The broadcast of the SL all-star game is a joke so far - technical snafus, announcers not sure if they're on the air or not, and right now it's silent. They're introducing the teams in silence.
  5. A current overall line of .245/.296/.451/.747 doesn't exactly get me excited, but against LHP its .334/.434/.594/1.028 - as purely a platoon hitter that doesn't look too bad.
  6. AA might be the place to look for a dark horse - Fox is your man if you want HR power: .281/.318/.500/.818 and 17 HR, against LHP .331/.343/.591/.934 If you want OBP there's Craig: .318/.400/.498/.898 and 8 HR, against LHP .364/.467/.558/1.026 For perspective, Fox and Craig rank 7th and 8th in the SL in slugging %. Soto's the only RH Iowa Cub in the top 20 in slugging, and his splits show he does better against RHP. Remember, Murton was called up direct from AA and Pie was going to be before he got injured. Of course, Fox has a position (OF) while Craig (1B and 3B) would be strictly a bench player.
  7. Has anyone mentioned that it's available on MiLB.TV? :D
  8. The best SEC team which I guess would have been Vandy, (even thou Miss State made it to the CWS) wouldnt play 400 ball in the Appy League, maybe the Arizona/Gcl league, the pitching staff are so weak after the 2nd game in 3 game series in the SEC or any college league for that matter. There was a joke hidden somewhere in my post. I thought that was someone else's line. :)
  9. Vance, I was wanting to go but can't afford to take 2 days off. Cheer for our guys.
  10. Aw, quit holding back and tell us how you really feel.
  11. The entire PCL's numbers are a little askew this year it seems. The PCL has 15 eligible hitters with OPS > .900. In the SL there are 4. Adjusting for the difference in the number of teams would only raise that to 6. Does anyone know of a site that tries to equalize minor league stats?
  12. Steroids aren't stimulants. And stimulants aren't steroids.
  13. Steroids aren't stimulants.
  14. It's going to be tough to make a good deal this year. It sounds like the only way you get a good deal is by buying big contract veterans and selling low cost young players.
  15. A truly confident person doesn't need to brag. Kind of like scoring a touchdown and just handing the ball to the ref. It makes perfect sense to me.
  16. He doesn't want to pull an Abreu.
  17. Baseball punishments suck. What sucks isn't that he can still play in the All-Star Game. What sucks is that the only effect of a five-game suspension is that he'll have to pitch the second game back after the All-Star break rather than the first; being pushed back one day, as opposed to actually missing a start, is getting off free. If the All-Star Game were included as you seem to want then he'd only miss 4 regular season games, which would merely be the games he'd be missing between starts anyway. The All-Star Game should not be one of the five games missed. He should miss the game because he was suspended. Suspended players should not be allowed to participate in the All-Star Game that year. For pitchers, it should not be 5 games missed, but rather 5 starts (this is what happens to position players...5 starts). So a position player should miss 5/162 3% of the season and a starting pitcher should miss 5/32 or 16% of the season? That sounds fair. That is too much, but there has to be a happy medium. Young's 5/162 punishment is not a 1/32 because he doesn't even miss one start. He is simply pushed back a day. He still loses 5 games' pay even though he'll have to work the same. At least Lee really gets off the days he doesn't get paid.

  19. I think the concern over yoyo-ing is exaggerated. If you told either of these guys at the start of the year that they would get a stint or 2 with the big club while the big club is still contending they would have been as happy as can be. I would be more concerned if we were overusing them than I am with moving the young guys up and down so nobody gets burned out. I don't think any minor league player says "don't bring me up unless you're going to use me." They know there is a limited roster and just being part of the 25 means more to them than how they're used. And if it means keeping your bags packed, so be it.
  20. Because 5 games is the minimum penalty that will have any impact on a starting pitcher, maybe without Young appealing Lee will have a better chance at getting his time reduced.
  21. Hart has a 1 hitter through 5 for the Smokies. Tennessee up 2-0 on a SF and HR by Craig.
  22. Was it made clear whether his punishment was for the pitch or the melee afterwards?
  23. Could that be extreme inconsistency?
  24. Clearly Cedeno vs Theriot would not be an issue if getting rid of Izturis were an option. As long as Cesar is around, however, Fontenot, Theriot and Cedeno are all candidates for 2 positions on the roster. Until Fontenot's bat returns back to earth that pits Theriot vs Cedeno. And Cedeno is tearing up AAA much like Fontenot did while he was there. That transition seemed to work out pretty good.
