  1. There's always someone discovering the Minor Leagues for the first time. Be gentle.
  2. You say that as if you're scared he'll haunt the team. He's 32 years old, has a career OPS+ of 100, and has been below that level in 6 of his 9 seasons. Even if he gets back to his 06 or 03 form, he's still nobody to fear. Not haunt, but embarrass maybe, and I guess we're past that.
  3. If the Rangers are interested in Jones it could be because Rudy thinks he can fix Jacque's problems. If so, good thing he's going to a crappy team in the AL.
  4. that lineup is pretty close to what they ran out there last nite...here is what they went with SS Cedeno 2B Patterson RF Murton 1B Hoffpauir C Soto CF Coats LF Kroeger 3B Moore Put Pie at the top of the order and substitute Lee for Hoffpauir and I'd almost take that over the Chi Cubs lineup. I think I'd keep Ramirez at 3B. Or find Moore a platoon partner.
  5. It's not easy for every GM to eat $5.6M. That's how much the Cubs still owe Eyre for the remainder of 2007 and all of 2008. Then Hendry needs to learn the meaning of "sunk cost". Send Hendry to me. I actually teach the concept of sunk costs in some of the college accounting courses I teach. I don't think he needs to go that far - I bet there are some graduate students in the Chicago area who would be willing to explain the concept while taking a brief break from studying - no personal experience you understand. Besides, we're going to send the entire Cubs front office to you so you can explain how you're going to apply accrual accounting to their back-loaded contracts.

  7. Hey! What's up with that? Always the last to know.
  8. Personally I wouldn't call this pure anger. If you ask me, it was one of the calmest trade threads ever on this board. Most people were resigned to the fact Barrett was going, not a lot of people are ecstatic about the deal, but there's only been a couple people who've gone ballistic. Bowen's been a mediocre producing catcher in his pro career who is having a good 2007 but probably won't sustain the numbers. He'd be a nice cheap backup for a team with a good starter, but he's probably not starter material himself, at least in the long haul, but he'll be stable defensively. The kid whose parents were desperate for a name that started with K has some physical ability but hasn't done jack squat as a pro (600 OPS in rookie ball and sub 600 in low A ball). beautiful.................. Except I thought he was talking about our current catcher at first...
  9. Kroeger leaves the Southern League leading all 4 batting categories: AVG .382 leads 2nd by .047 OBP .449 leads 2nd by .006 SLG .609 leads 2nd by .066 OPS 1.058 leads 2nd by .116 =D> :hail:
  10. Just woke up? I should have been a teacher. But think about the children.
  11. How does the whole world decide which lucky team will get the Cubs castoffs at 60 cents on the dollar? If you're an owner of some other team do you not ask your GM why he isn't the one ripping off the Cubs?
  12. As the Rangers' announcer said, he was Marmolous.
  13. No probable starters for DSL Cubs? What a slacker.
  14. Really? Did you have to beat that out of him?
  15. Has everyone already forgotten about what used to be passed off as role players around here (names withheld to protect the talentless)?
  16. Still not getting it, so i will recap it for ya one more time. We trade Jones to the A's for Kendall, clearing 5.6M next year in cap room and fixing the disfunctionality of our OF. We then flip Barrett for a prospect over to the AL. Barrett is probably leaving anyway, so might as well get something for him. The difference between Barrett and Kendall at the moment is 1 WS. We gain 5.6M next year to use either on the FA market or to re-sign Z, v 2.0. Because remember, we may or may not have a 100M payroll depending on the new ownership, so we may need to conserve some cash. Jones is the 6th highest paid player on the Cubs atm and is a waste of talent and money. He is an albatross and his deal is a boondoggle (link for Raisin b/c he obviously gets confused when i use big words http://education.yahoo.com/reference/dictionary/entry/boondoggle). Then who is the catcher? That'd be Kendall. In 2008. Goony must actually be trying to work in between posting.
  17. There are lots of people posting on this board that apparently don't read message boards.
  18. He didnt get the same thing as Lee. Young misses 1 game, where DLee misses 5. This is not accurate, either. DLee misses 5 games and Young just gets his regular start moved back one game, so essentially he gets nothing. Well true. Don't they both lose 5 days' pay?
  19. Couldn't find home away splits for the team, but here are a few splits for OPS: Player Total/Home/Away (as of 6/17): Kroeger 1.076/1.167/1.002 Craig .926/.936/.919 Fox .856/.977/.744 Very significant differential for Fox, somewhat for Kroeger, not so much for Craig.
  20. Unless, according to Mick, they end up tied, there will be a one game playoff.
  21. And then it was 8-0 after 4
  22. Somewhat OT - are there any other Ivy Leaguers in MLB besides DeRosa and Chris Young (the pitcher)?
