  1. I hate salary caps, the NFL may get different teams in the playoffs each year but the quality of play is down from the pre-salary cap era, in my opinion. Also look at what the salary cap did to the Blackhawks, half the team gone and in serious jeopardy of not repeating. I like dynasties, even thought he only one we had in Chicago is the Bulls, it makes for a better sport when you're trying to knock off the top dog. If some of these owners can't compete without a cap or luxury tax, sell the team to someone who can.
  2. Even with his lack of preparation, forgetting what inning or play happened, the faxes, the outburst when the Cubs played like the Cubs - there's going to be a hole in the booth that no one will be able to fill for a while. The hell with the Vets Committee, the HOF needs Ron more than Ron needs the HOF. He was the best 3B of his era (yeah, better than Brooks Robinson), especially some of the borderline players inducted recently (looking at you Bill Mazeroski and Nellie Fox). Peace, Ronnie.
  3. Agree. I don't know how that hack still has a job.
  4. Walter Johnson big drop-off to #2 John Candelaria
  5. Are you forgetting that Hendry doesn't know how to sell high on players?
  6. Not if you were a Cub fan, I hated those guys.
  7. I'm just hoping the Phillies sweep DFB and the Reds to continue the NL Central sweep streak. I would also like to see Kerry Wood win a ring even though it means another Yankees title. Gut feeling says the Philies win it all though.
  8. Well I disagree. It's rare, and every year everybody acts all surprised that there aren't any interesting races. The White Sox fans may have had some hope two weeks ago, but September is a long time and they've been out of it for pretty much the entire month. They pretended this last series was meaningful, but it really wasn't. That's what made is so fun to see the Twins sweep the crap out of the Sox - their fans were on the verge of suicide.
  9. So am I, I'm hoping for a 4th consecutive sweep of the NL Central champ.
  10. what does Mike Marshall have to say about Strasburg's mechanics?
  11. This team really needs Joe Crede.
  12. The stupidity kept dragging me under.
  13. Only a Cub fan on NSBB would have to read a thread that is worse than the week the Cubs had.
  14. Damn you for beating me. That's what she said.
  15. he's been hurt a lot. but yeah, he's been bad News to few but the enablers. $56M for 22 wins in 7 years. Nice. Good work, if you can get it.
  16. We know how well those guys work out once they put on a Cub uniform.
  17. If the Cubs complete the sweep of the Deadbirds tomorrow, all the talk will be of how they are ready to make a run and suddenly become buyers.
  18. In the history of the Cubs, this is a typical loss. Come off a good weekend, winning 3 of 4 from the reigning NL champs then lay an egg, and in the first inning to boot.
  19. Luckily for us, the Astros and Wandy are coming into town at the right time.
  20. Joe Crede! Joe Crede! Joe Crede!
  21. This is pretty much the recruiting season for UT. Usually not too much going on for them at the beginning of the year as they don't have any offers left except for guys waiting until signing day. Also beats reading about the Cubs right now. Pretty much. Also, just trying to enjoy this while it lasts. Doesn't seem that long ago (1996) that I was a freshman on campus, and beating Nebraska in the Big 12 CCG was the biggest thing for UT football since 1970. Well, Texas was pretty good in the Earl Campbell years, until Joe Montana & Notre Dame kicked the ever-living crap out of them in the 1978 Cotton Bowl.
  22. I don't know or care if there is a precedent but yes, it does tell us a lot about how this team was constructed. Foolish spending, by Hendry, fire his a**.
  23. Even with a new owner, there's no end to the disappointment this front office heaps on us fans.
