  1. That quote says specifically that "Hendry will be our GM NEXT year." So u expect him to say something different? Its not lip service, every media outlet is reporting Hendry will be back next year. Ricketts could always say,"We will evaluate Jim at the end of the season and go from there". Hendry is coming back, and we all may as well get used to it.
  2. . I agree with the first part. I think the logic is just the opposite of the second part however... If Ricketts is planning to remove Hendry he wants to keep that close to the vest. Not many quality managers would want to come into a situation where the GM is unsettled. It makes sense to present continuity even when change is in the plans. Im basing the second part on all the reports saying Hendry is coming back next season. It seems pretty much a done deal that Hendrys back and thats the presumption Im working under. So again what manager wants to come into that situation? Honestly, I think that's a fine situation for most if not all managers. No one who would consider taking the job will think "hmmmm, Hendry may be fired if we don't start out well..." That's not how managers think. It's more likely that the next manager will be happy that some structure is in place to "win." That's not to say I'm for Hendry staying or that I believe he will stay. I believe that it makes no sense for Ricketts to present the "company' as a place that's totally in transistion (manager, GM, and potential farm system changes/openings could scare off a veteran manager and potential free agents). I guess Im not getting what you are saying, when you say thats a fine situation for most if not all managers. You really think most managers like they idea of coming into a situation where the GM is presumably on the hot seat?
  3. Call me crazy but I don't like the idea of Joe Torre. I think this team needs a manager who can, conceivably, be around for the longterm not another stop-gap guy who will be looking at retirement in a few years. I believe Torre is older than Lou. Oh ya Im not saying I want Torre at all, but thats just some rumors Ive heard. I think Bobby V is my top choice.

  5. Walt Jocketty loves him some ex Cardinals. The trade market for relief pitchers must be realllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllly thin if teams are offering Jason Isringhausen a contract.
  6. What makes you think Hendry's on a short leash? Well I dont know for sure hes on a short leash, but you would have to assume he is. If he makes changes to this team, and they start out horribly next season, I would expect there to be a lot of questions concerning Hendrys job. I can't see a manager wanting to come into that type of situation. But hell for all I know, Ricketts will offer Hendry a 10 year [expletive] contract extension at seasons end.
  7. So what manager in their right mind wants to come here knowing the GM has to be on a pretty short leash? It makes no sense to let Hendry come back. Not many managers are going to want to come into that kind of situation with the GM.
  8. Ive heard from some people in the Chicago area that Ricketts and Joe Torre are very close friends, and Torre is who Ricketts really wants. I dont know how true it is, but thought Id throw that out there.
  9. Can we end the Colvin hitting leadoff [expletive]? Is Mike Fontenot still alive? When was the last time he got a start?
  10. Click for depression Noooooooooooooooooooooooo! Noooooooooooooooooooooooo! He dropped the ball! I listened to the whole press conference and as I heard and saw the quote, I heard many things that made me think Ricketts is not going keep Hendry, it makes perfect sense for him to be in full support of Hendry right now with the trade deadline approaching. I also believe the quote was more in the direction of "Hendry will be our GM going into the offseason and will work with hiring the new manager." That quote says specifically that "Hendry will be our GM NEXT year."
  11. [expletive] you Ricketts! How the hell does Hendry continue to keep his [expletive] job! Unreal
  12. Apparently you do not have Geovany Soto on your fantasy team. It's bad enough that the Cubs have to suck, but to have Lou kill mine and Rozner's fantasy teams by playing Koyie Hill day after day is adding insult to injury. If Rozner didn't write the article, I would have. :P The playing of Koyie Hill stopped about 14 games ago. Geo has started almost every game in July.
  13. Colvin and his under 300 obp over his last 130 or so at bats leading off is hilarious
  14. Uh, no. Hill is marginally better on defense at best, and nowhere near being better enough to justify all the times Soto's been switched out for him during a game. Uh ??? Is the uh just for emphisis, or does it add value to the discussion ? Or do you preface your spoken sentences with uh ? I am not going to debate Hill vs Soto on defense, and I already stated that Soto should get the bulk of the playing time. My point, as I am sure you all are capable of understanding, yet chose to ignore, is that Soto blows a very easy play, Marmol implodes, yet you all pop off about Lou Piniella. Soto and Marmol sucked yesterday, and blew the game, not Lou. At least they were both man enough to own up to it. Complaining about Lou after yesterdays fiasco just makes you look foolish. So it wasn't Lou who pinch hit for arguably our best hitter this season?
  15. And Fukudome and Zambrano. But for some reason Theriot, Lee, Hill, Howry, and countless others are allowed to suck consistently with no recourse. Fukudome wasnt so much punished as he was replaced by a player that they saw as the RF of the future, although I dont agree with the $10 million 5th outfielder, but what can you do. I know Colvins come down to earth, though still productive, so youd think that theyd at least share playing time at this point. The player Soto is replaced by a much lesser player in every sense and its a punishment, not because they have a better option. If Soto was playing poorly, and they were trying to see what Chirinos could do, then that would be a comparable situation to the Colvin/Fuku one. Z was a different story all together, and a very mismanaged situation at that. 28 for his last 119 is still productive? A .235 batting average with an OBP just barely above his batting average is productive? If Fukudome was "producing" like Colvin the fans would be up in arms about it, but somehow a lot of fans still think Colvin is being productive and can be counted on as a starting OF'er next year.
  16. Win Cubs Go song?
  17. I dont understand why Lou feels the need to switch Soto and Castro in the 7 8 spot. Hes flip flopped them each game since the break. I also wish Colvin wasn't hitting 2nd.
  18. THat catch from Soriano was not pretty but hey at least he made it. Wheres Bob? I like Moreland, hes got a good voice.
  19. Turn it around Teddy, you need to up your value
  20. Man, Lilly in Cinci would be all sorts of bad for the Reds. Lilly needs to go to a big time pitchers park because with his flyball tendencies he could be a disaster in some places. I know Wrigley isn't a big time pitchers park but the wind blows in more than it blows out and on the days the winds blown out we've seen Teddy have some horrible outings.
  21. Apparently Ronnie Brewer is weighing offers from the Jazz and Bulls. Brewer would be a very nice pickup
  22. Man I really hope we get no hit. It would be a perfect ending to a horrible 1st half. It being on National Tv is even better.
  23. Haha wow thats hilarious.
