  1. I know it's against the religion of this board to say anything positive about Andy MacPhail, but perhaps this Bedard thing with Seattle has been drawn out because the Orioles wanted to see what the Twins got for Santana. My thinking is that MacPhail was tipped off by somebody in the league office over the weekend that the Santana trade would be going down soon, so he decided to wait it out. I think we'll see Bedard dealt in the next 48 hours. My gut says Seattle too, but I wouldn't rule out a NL contender seeing as the Mets just improved themselves. What NL contender? Maybe Cincy? Perhaps Philly? The Dodgers are out after the Japanese guy they signed. Astros don't have enough to pry loose a Mike Hampton much less Bedard. Maybe St. Louis. The ONLY 3 NL contenders (or possible contenders) for Bedard would be Cubs/Cards/Reds. So, I agree with a couple of other guys, and say Bedard stays in the AL. The Cardinals and Reds are contenders?
  2. Actually, iirc premium has existed since before NSBB started carrying ads. Premium is there to support the site, not seeing the ads was just a fringe benefit. I believe you're right about Premium existing before the ads started. And you're definitely right about the purpose of Premium being to support the site as opposed to getting benefits in return. It's similar to the premiums offered during PBS pledge drives: they're a token of appreciation, but not intended to be an exchange of equal value. Thats all well and good, and yes people pay for premium to help Tim out, but we also pay for it to have the features offered by premium. I understand Tim is busy, but the amount of time this is taking is well, pretty ridiculous. Of all the member here if Tim doesnt have time, or needs the help to do it, Im sure somebody here would be willing and able to help. Just my 2 cents
  3. Id be up for the May 10th game. I was just looking over our schedule and has anybody else noticed that we play basically a bunch of crap teams at home on the weekends all year? The only teams we play on the weekends at home that will probably have a winning record are Arizona, Philly, and Colorado. Other than that its a bunch of teams that will probably suck. Just found it pretty odd.
  4. Only today? You must be joking
  5. Fixed
  6. Lmao well now the Mariner fans can know how we have felt about 100x's this offseason. Trade done, no its not, yes it is, nope, yup.
  7. UConn. Ok thats all I have to say :D
  8. You can find closers everywhere. The Cubs dont need a closer bad, it really isnt even a problem. Between Dempster, Howry, Marmol, and Wood, thats plenty of guys to be the closer. No reason to give up possibly one of the best position prospects in the organization to fill a spot that can be filled internally.
  9. Noway in hell does it make sense to trade Josh Donaldson for Nathan. You can find closers everywhere, but you cant find a kid that put up numbers like Donaldson did in his short stint so far in the Minors.
  10. There were some Wallace and Tyrus for McGrady rumors floating around last week... Pax was on WSCR this morning and flat out said the rumors for McGrady rumors were flat out ridiculous. He then went on a big rant about journalists needing to be held accountable for stuff they make up. It was a pretty good interview this morning, and North hit him pretty hard. North told Pax the Wallace signing has been a terrible signing, in which Pax didnt say a word.
  11. Penn State can rebound, but they can't shoot foul shots, so Wiscy just needs to "hack-a-shaq" them and they'll win Unless the Badgers are down towards the end of the game, they just don't foul. They are very sound fundamentally, don't reach, and move their feet. They play great man to man, position defense. I hate them. Wisconsin has always been fundamentally sound. I think Bo Ryan could coach a team of walk-ons to 20 wins. Always a tough matchup for IU because they don't make mistakes. Bo Ryan is the best coach in the conference. Wisconsin is superbly coached. Interesting games for both 3-0 Big Ten teams this week. Wisconsin at Penn State tonight, and Indiana at Minnesota Thursday night. The Barn has been a veritable house of horrors for IU historically, and Tubby has had great success against the Hoosiers (though mostly against the incompetent Davis). This will be IU's toughest, most likely loss since playing Xavier. If either team moves to 4-0, they'll be ahead of the curve. Ohio State at Michigan State tonight is also a big game. Minnesota really hasn't beaten anybody to date, unless you count Penn State, which didn't play very well. I think IU wins that game easy, D.J. White and Gordon will have big games. Minnesota didn't win so much as Penn State lost. If Penn State shoots even 60% at the line, they win Thats can be said for basically every Illinois loss.
  12. KU Memphis UNC UCLA WSU Georgetown Duke Pitt(they will be healthy again) Tennesse Michigan State Dayton Xavier Wisconsin(they are always way underrated) Stanford hell you might not be the best team in Indiana, Butler But I feel you are a real good top 25 team. By season's end, if Gordon starts to take control of the team, I think you will be a borderline top 10. A couple of those teams are matchup problems (stanford immediately comes to mind), but I don't think any not in the 6 I named are better, including Xavier. Just curious how you can say Xavier isnt better than IU when they beat IU pretty easily already. Not saying that if they met again things would be the same, but I think you have to say Xavier is the better team. And before anyone says "well is Iowa better than Mich St", the comparisons arent the same.
  13. It is going to be interesting to see how teams use the knowledge that you don't need a franchise RB to succeed, countered by the Peterson ROY thing. Peterson may have made McFadden a few million this year. But I think most teams will be better served to wait to get RBs later. Of course, the Bears will probably be stupid and spend huge on Turner or something. I don't think the Bears are going to draft or sign a RB. And I think the reason is Peterson, not Benson. I think you will see a lot of competition for the #1 RB spot, with the end result being shared time. Garrett Wolfe got in some action late in the year, so the Bears have 3 experienced backs. It does sound like the Bears are aware of OL problems, I think they will allow Benson 1 more year, knowing they have Peterson (who was good all around) if he fails. I think the Bears will look very strongly at signing Michael Turner.
  14. Right, plus Sampson has a track record of having his teams play better in the postseason than they did in the regular season. Oh wait.... Is that the best you have? I didn't predict anything. Just mentioned that its foolish to saw how IU will do 2 months from now based on one game in the mid January. I honestly think you will win one game in the tournament. One. Oh and before you go there we won't make any tournament. None. Before the season, you thought it was "absurd" that Gordon would make first team all Big Ten, and that Sampson would "kill" Gordon like he does all his talented players (despite not having really coached any). I don't think IU is a top-5 team, but they're better than they showed today. I thought today would be tough. Regardless, I'm not putting much faith in your predictions regarding IU. Illinois once again proves a tough matchup for IU. I think it has a lot to do with Pruitt, who with his size matches up and basically neutralizes DJ White. Weber is also a very good coach. Pruitt was a non factor the entire first half yet the Illini led by 4 at the half. Im sure that IU is better than they showed today, but I dont think they are so much better that they are a top 10-15 team in the nation. IU is very vulnerable.
  15. Bulls got their asses kicked today by Atlanta. Please just lose every game from here on out. Also apparently Noah and Ron Adams(assistant coach) got in a pretty heated argument Thurs in practice. Boylan put Noah on the inactive list for Fridays game, and that was supposed to be the end of it. However the team took a vote and voted unanimously for Noah to be put on the inactive list for todays game as well. Seems as if Noah may be rubbing some of the other guys the wrong way, what a surprise.
  16. Thats all the pics you got ? We need more than that :D
  17. HOW BOUT DEM COWBOYS!!!! Wheres the pics at, I want pics!! :D
  18. Right, plus Sampson has a track record of having his teams play better in the postseason than they did in the regular season. Oh wait.... Is that the best you have? I didn't predict anything. Just mentioned that its foolish to saw how IU will do 2 months from now based on one game in the mid January. Im not basing it off this one game. Im basing it off the 3-4 games Ive seen of them, and the games Ive seen Memphis, KU, UNC, Georgetown, etcc. I dont think they have the talent to match up with these teams. And we've already seen Lickliter completely man handle Sampson in the coaching department, just imagine what the coaches of the teams I listed will do with him.
  19. Ha I missed that, but yea Calvin did play pretty well. Again if U of I makes free throws we win this game.
  20. I think he went too far to shake Kelvin's hand. Again, ignore Sampson if you want. Is it asking too much to give a half-hearted walk through the rest of the line? If he is the bastion of ethics, then be the bigger man and act like it. I think, think he always only shakes the coaches hand though. I could be wrong. I seem to think you are right. I always remember Weber shaking the other coaches hand, having a little convo, then leaving the floor. Honestly, with the way recruiting violations are today, if Im the opposing coach I stay away from the other teams players. Who knows what kid will say you said something to them.
  21. He pissed off Weber, thus no time in the second half. I think once he gains some weight Tisdale could be a pretty damn good center. Right now he plays good D when hes not getting whistled for a foul, and he showed some pretty good touch on the offensive side. Honestly, I liked what I seen from the Illini today for the most part. If we could hit free throws, this season wouldnt be looking as bad. I hate what I see. Why the hell wasn't Tisdale playing at all in the second half? Brian Randle awesome three there at the end, just awesome. Great look. Oh and for as good as the offense looked today with DMac running it, don't worry Chester will be back to gobble up 38 minutes next game. Bruce Weber needs to go. Especially after shaking that clown's hand. Agreed on Tisdale. There is noway in hell that Weber called for Randle to take that shot though, just noway. Im hoping(praying) after seeing how "well" the Illini ran the offense today, that Weber rethinks Fraziers playing time. I will say this, Indiana is not one of the top 10 teams in the nation, and if they are, college basketball is really down. The Illini showed today with far inferior players how to beat Indiana. If Indiana were to play a Memphis, UCLA, KU, they would get manhandled.
  22. you gotta admit that brock got hacked there at the end...what a joke. I've been watching Big Ten basketball for 20 years. I know our refs suck...it's just a fact of life. they suck even more in bloomington. I dont know which was better the non intentional foul while getting bitch slapped in the open court, or the phantom call on Meachem when IU missed the layup on the break. That call on Meachem was a phantom call, but that one worked to the benefit of Illinois. Gordon tipped the ball in but that was waved off. Gordon then made 1 of 2 at the line. Meh, if I remember right the other Illini defender down there stopped when he heard the whistle, so without the whistle who knows what happens. My point still remains about the absolute joke of officiating in the Big Ten.
  24. While I agree the officiating sucked, the odds are slim if the Illini go to the line they make both. Free throws cost them this game again.
