  1. Are you serious? Do you really think the players went out there thinking,"Man, I really want to win this for that fan in seat 4 in section 220, thatd be great"? The players want to win it for themselves plain and simple. They know if they are on the Cubs team that wins the World Series, it would be epic.
  2. Isn't that what we ask of managers and coaches? If they aren't trying to improve their players, why employ them in the first place? But who improves the manager?
  3. You could see the anger in his eyes when he turned and walked to the dugout on the dropped strike 3 that got by Martin. Ahh damn, I missed that. All I know is if that was Theriot playing like he cares, I hope he plays the next game like he doesnt care.
  4. Soriano in RF would be a nightmare. Rf at Wrigley is harder to play than LF think about that.
  5. Id rather let Pie play with Reed sharing time in CF. Its time to let the Pie Era begin, and let him get as many chances as Fuku has this year.
  6. Id like to know how Theriot looks like he cares? Was it half assed defense last night that showed this?
  7. Because what they're doing is working so well. My annual salary is in the low $40k range. I really wish I made six figures and could afford a nicer car, and maybe buy a house sometime soon. Clearly, what I am doing has not been working. So it's time to try something new. Something wacky. Today, in my afternoon meeting, I am going to punch my boss in the throat and take a dump on the overhead projector. I will then hurtle my body down a flight of stairs while singing the chorus to "Shiny, Happy People" by REM. Once I hit the bottom, I will spring up and shout "TA DA!" and spread my arms wide in triumph. Maybe then my fortunes will turn. If you knew you were about to lose your job anyway, those might be perfectly reasonable things to do. The point is, they have nothing to lose at this point so they may as well start acting like it. Exactly. Why should they try harder now? They all have jobs next year with this team, except for a few. What pressure is there exactly to perform? The only ones who really look like they give a damn are Zambrano, DeRosa, and Theriot, as far as regulars go. Please tell me this is a joke? You seriously cant be this naive?
  8. Exactly, there is one thing I've got a pretty strong feeling about - LA better close them out Saturday night. If they allow the Cubs to get one, its going to loosen the Cubs up, they'll play better and LA' will be in for a world of hurt. Yep, Lilly even said the move to LA might loosen these guys up. 2 postseasons without a win, I think if they get a win they'll all loosen up A LOT. If we get swept out of this postseason as well I can't even imagine how tense this team will be next year.. Yep, just like last year when we were coming home to Chicago..... :-"
  9. 9 pm start time means Im going to be absolutely hammered by the time this game starts. Ill either keep drinking in celebration over a victory, or Ill drown my sorrows either way, I get even more drunk.
  10. Did anybody yell at Lou to quit pissing down his legs in Game 1's of the playoffs every year?
  11. Where has the main talk been about the crowd, though? It's been mentioned because, false perception or real, it seemed odd to a lot of people. But the talks of what happened in game 1 (and what might happen next) still dominate. Its the main theme on Chicago sports radio today, believe me. I read Bruce's articles and avoided everything else today. No way would I ever considering listening to Chicago sports radio right now. Yea I have an hour long drive home from work at 7am in the morning so I usually listen to WSCR. Hell last nights postgame with David Kaplan was ridiculous. He was hammering the fans, and the same thing this morning. That schmuck TJ Simers from LA can go to hell. He was such a pompous ass this morning on WSCR.

  13. Outside of the weak "chilly" excuse, none of that explains why many of us were noticing how quiet and subdued the crowd was by Wrigley standards *before* the fifth inning. Dempster boring them to sleep is a pretty good reason So if your pitcher is shutting out the opponent through four and you are winning 2-0 in the opening game of the playoffs, but the pitcher looks kinda wild doing it, that's reason enough to show less enthusiasm than a regular-season Cubs-Brewers game? Dempster was playing with fire from the 1st inning on. Everybody watching the game could tell he had no command. When you keep letting guys get on base inning after inning its going to come back and bite you, and everybody in the crowd knew that. And I will admit alot of these people werent the normal typical Cubs fan that goes to Wrigley. With the price of seats and such, it was a different crowd. However, for so much of the focus to be put on the crowd is downright ignorant. Demp sucked last night, Soriano sucked last night, and so did others, but yet the main talk has been on the crowd. Stupid
  14. I see way too many people are continuing to listen to Steve Stone and his brilliant analysis that Soriano cant hit good pitchers. Stone is the guy who says this crap but never does a damn thing to back it up. People need to stop listening to the blowhard Steve Stone.

  16. Its an absolute joke how many people, national media and Chicago media included, are making a big deal about how quiet the crowd supposedly was. Hardly anyone is mentioning the piss poor play of the Chicago Cubs, theyd rather focus on the damn crowd, give me a break. When your starting pitcher walks 7 batters in 4 2/3 innings, and proceeds to give up a grand slam, the crowd is going to be silent. Add in the fact that it was pretty damn chilly at the game and its even more understandable. I also really wish the Chicago media would grow a pair and start questioning some of Lous decisions. This is the 2nd straight year that in game 1 of the NLDS, our manager has crapped the bed. There is no justification at all for putting Fukudome in the 2 hole last night, and not Theriot. The Cubs had the best offense in the regular season, and the majority of the season it was with Theriot in the 2 spot. Also last year Lou couldnt pull Z quick enough in game 1, now this year he just lets Demp sit out there and throw ball after ball after ball. Some of the players are playing tight, and so is our manager. Im hoping for a Sori bomb in the 1st tonight to loosen everybody up.
  17. Ive got my Fukdome Tshirt on today, he has a big game, book it.
  18. That Kerry Wood pic made me laugh. I was imagining him looking at Z saying "I am cornholio" or whatever the hell it was Beavis and Butthead said.
  19. Hahaha Pedro Gomez was just reporting from Wrigley talking about how Casey Blake is a "professional hitter". Hahaha
  20. The thing I've been comforting myself with is the fact that if we did one thing differently, we wouldn't have Derrick Rose. If we have Roy, we almost certainly don't have Rose. Same thing if we had kept Aldridge. I was reading on RealGM that he had the 3rd lowest defensive win shares in the league. But then again, since all he can do is score, he'll be our 6th man, which means he comes in when we need a scoring boost. I like him a lot in that 6th man role. I refuse to support paying him anything more than 6th man money though. Like you mentioned, there is the pathetic defense which isn't from lack of effort. He just physically is outmatched. Then factor in the inconsistency on offense and you have some misleading offensive stats. He'll lose you more games from individually sucking than he'll win you by individually killing it. You forgot to mention Gordons terrible ball handling. Say goodbye to Gordon please
  21. I keep hearing the media say that this LA offense has changed so much with the additions of Manny and Casey Blake. Casey Blake? Are you serious? The guy has had 2 good months(June-July), other than that he has been flat out horrible. For the months of August and Sept hes put up steller numbers like .250 .303 .451 and he followed that up with an even more pathetic Sept of .220 .297 .415. Outside of June and July he hasnt managed to surpass .315 in OBP for a month. The guy just isnt very good, and people need to stop acting like hes made a difference. Its all Manny all the time. Dont let Manny beat you, and the Dodgers wont beat you.
  22. You actually think one of the Chicago media guys has the guts to ask Lou this question? Lou snapped at them one time, and ever since every single one of them has been scared to even think about questioning him. Lou has it easier than any Cubs manager has. Granted him winning has something to do with that.
  23. Since when has Soriano had a nagging injury? I find it funny you say now that Furcal should be healthy but yet think Soto, DeRo, and apparently Soriano are going to be not healthy. Also not playing Andruw and Pierre has no effect on Lowes 4.42 Road ERA this year or his 1.4 whip and almost .300 BAA. The Dodgers benefited big time by playing in the crap NL West, and all of LA's pitchers have benefited big time by pitching in LA. Oh and can we please quit with the RIch Harden has slipped lately? I mean my God he has a 2.65 ERA and a 1.18 Whip in September. I mean yea he actually has an ERA over 2 for the 1st month since May(his only 2 months of the season mind you). Hell he had his lowest BAA in the month of September. So please quit with the Harden slipping, not just you Ender, this is for the entire national media.
  24. While I understand what you are saying, Im left wondering how the 9 guys playing could not give a good effort. Are they going to just stand at the plate and not swing the bat? Is Garcia just going to lob 75 mph batting practice fastballs? Are the defenders just going to let the ball go by them? Im not saying this to be a smartass either, its just that in baseball, it really doesnt take giving a good effort to win a game.
