  1. Living outside St. Louis, I have really enjoyed having this conversation with multiple cards fan friends. Me: I need you to help me with something. Friend: yeah, what's up. Me: the Cubs just traded for Arnold's chapman. He has a history of domestic violence, shooting a gun off in his garage, and just seems to be an awful person. As a Cubs fan, I don't have much experience rooting for awful, terrible people, but as a Cardinals fan, you've rooted for LaRussa, Darryl Kile, Molina and Oscar Tavares who killed his girlfriend driving drunk. How do you do it? How do you cheer for such awful, terrible people? Friend: (silence)
  2. Hey! That's the great Cubs reclamation project, Jacob Turner, you're talking about.
  3. Never felt so good about screwing the closer.
  4. Oh, is that how it works? Murders and child molesters get out and then they have no troubles after that? No trouble getting jobs or anything? They don't have to register with authorities, or attend therapy, or notify neighbors about their past? They just get out and move along as normal? bitter?

  6. Manny trillio pop up slide. It's a wonder I didn't break my leg trying to emulate it.
  7. I don't know who this is, and read it as though he was a pitcher. I was confused why you thought he'd get eaten alive. I am slow today.
  8. +defense?
  9. nutrient separating baffle box industries (NSBB.com?) will get a ton of hits off this.
  10. Just wait til next year when both are here. If Schwarber was as good behind the plate as even Contreras is now, you could have 2 of the top 3 hitting catchers in the league on 1 roster, but each getting 600 PAs between 1 playing LF while the other catches. I like this idea and wholeheartedly support it \:D/ #savetheknees
  11. I've been out of the country a few days. What happened to Dex?
  12. Glenallen Hill would like a word with you. I saw him hit one high off the scoreboard at Coors. Yeah, I know, cool story.
  13. Garth, if you just broke rizzos wrist, I WILL FIND YOU.
  14. What difference does that make? Ross has never had a WAR over 1.9 in his career, and he's only touched 1.0 a few times. Most folks here were hoping he would retire before last season was even over. Yeah, Miggy has sucked this year, but we're talking about a small sample size. He has a much better offensive track record than Ross. 1.4 wins over replacement-level. Maths
  15. What about Szczur? He's already back, no?
  16. If his back is still as bad as his performance suggests, he should be just fine.
  17. I'm guessing this is just until laStella and soler come off the dl. At that point two of Coghlan, Almora, and Contreras are gone/sent down.
  18. How many of these do we need though? the Cubs need someone to come in in the 6th or 7th and get Bryce Harper or Matt Adams or David Ortiz out. I think matusz can still be that guy. When you have more than one then those two roles aren't mutually exclusive. Much like Wood last year, you can use him to eat innings when needed, and you can use him to erase left handed hitters in close games. Dont confuse the boy; let focus on doing one thing good, then we can talk about doing something else! I do like stretching him out o get him more reps, but if he comes up, Cahill, warren, and wood are fine as long men, imho.
  19. WHOA. Whoa. This changes EVERYTHING. All I'm saying is there's a chance he could be a guy. It works better with 30 hyphens. "looks like your usual K's-a-lot-of-guys/walks-a-lot-of-guys,-but-if-we-can-get-him-to-stop-walking-guys-whilst-continuing-to-strike -guys-out-he-could-be-useful type."
  20. I wonder if they're doing that in an effort to help him find his proper mechanics again. Or if that was the hook they used to get him to sign with us. Or if they seriously think they can Arrieta him. I think it's the Cahill plan, just with the added step of some AAA starts. Keep him stretched out enough that future starting isn't ruled out, have him as a multi-inning RP option late in the season, bring him back in free agency(or arbitration if he's down long enough) as rotation depth, and have him settle as a multi-inning reliever after he inevitably fails to make the rotation. How many of these do we need though? the Cubs need someone to come in in the 6th or 7th and get Bryce Harper or Matt Adams or David Ortiz out. I think matusz can still be that guy.
