  1. So is Strope mostly dead or all dead?
  2. Good news for the Cubs either way. I feel like a rainout today is better than a win. I don’t care if they reported to the ballpark. No one threw a pitch. As long as nobody destroyed anyone else’s boom box this is a win. Probably washed out again Thursday = double win. Pitchers get ridiculously needed rest. The screwing over happened 13 months ago when this year’s schedule was released. This is the baseballs gods granting mercy,
  3. I know you’re being silly here, but I’ve often wondered why in big games managers don’t start a starter that throws with one hand and then after an inning switch to a pitcher that throws with the other hand to gain the platoon advantage for the next five innings or so. Unwritten rules I suppose. And starters’ routines, yadayada.
  4. Good thing we didn't get Ohtani and went with the safe bet for our big offseason starting pitching splash. Oh.
  5. Are the Dodgers still weak to lefties? OPS LH .708 RH .782 I can't help but think the gif is a proper reaction to this post. Hamels, Lester and Q look good against those splits.
  6. You inadvertently left an option off: -- I'm a stupid moron with an ugly face and a big butt and my butt smells and I like to kiss my own butt.
  7. Definitely, my post clearly says that signing a generational talent should be a priority (actually I said higher priority than not losing draft picks). The “if it’s not broke sentiment” meant they shouldn’t intentionally try to create new holes.
  8. Literally nobody here is saying that. Even I wasn't saying that when I posted it. Even I said that not losing draft picks is a secondary priority to adding a generational talent. I feel like Harper was pretty heavily implied. If you can do that, you do it.
  9. I agree with the “if it ain’t broke” sentiment. I don’t see a need for sweeping changes. If you can upgrade quality cheaply (in terms of assets not necessarily cash) do it. Trying not to give up draft picks is a priority (a secondary priority to adding a generational talent). I think it’s hilarious how many have bemoaned the failures of this 95 win team. A handful of minor moves takes this from an elite team to a team that continues to be so so elite it can weather the loss of Its number 2 pitcher, MVP caliber 3Rd baseman and closer for several months and still win 95 games.
  10. Yeah, I was willing to allow, “Rob Z,” but plain old Z is pretty egregious.
  11. Game day is schizophrenic. What happened in Schwarber’s AB?
  12. What if we did exactly this? Hear me out. They could each take turns being in charge, each getting to give the others advice when it isn’t their turn to be the one calling the shots. And since they’re all nerds, we could call it, I don’t know, a “college” of coaches. That’s cutting edge, right there.
  13. He's great, but wrong. Dead wrong. 3-6-1 DP over a 3-6-3 any day of the week. Love to see the pitcher fielding his position and screaming at him when he doesn't get off the mound fast enough.
  14. Same
  15. Zobrist has played some CF, no? :-k :-k Everybody needs some time off. Zobrist gives everyone but Baez that, and Russell becomes late inning defensive replacement,
  16. Don’t need to. Just keep taking care of business.
  17. The one Thursday was a curve ball up.
  18. I know the streak everyone was talking about was games with ONLY 1 solo HR. But I wonder if anyone keeps track of consecutive games with AT LEAST one solo HR? I haven't checked, but I think that one is still active. BTW it stands at 9.
  19. Switch officially flipped.
  20. Don’t act like you know me. I simply think what he said was very different than what Hader said. I’ve had some great civilized dialogue with several here via private message, but have refused to derail this thread. Please respect that. Edit: although given the thread title, I suppose it was destined to be somewhat other than completely baseball related. I am trying to honor Tim’s admonishment though. Edit edit: HR Bote!
  21. He's already down to 750 OPS against RHP for the season and pretty weak overall in the second half while Murphy is 830 vs RHP and scorching hot in the second half. I don't think they'll be riding the Bote train over Murphy much at all. That's kind of why they got him. I think they got him because it is questionable what they'll get from Bryant the rest of the year. He fills the gap until Bryant is as close to 100% as he'll get. Then he's insurance on Bote as well. If everything goes right, I don't think he (Murphy) starts much. I think I've given sufficient caveats as to the many things that could go "not right".
  22. I think about half assuming Bote keeps it up (quite an assumption, I know) When Bryant returns, Bryant (as often as he's able), Heyward, Rizzo and Baez start everyday. That means you have 3 spots for Schwarber, Almora, Happ, Zobrist, Bote and Murphy. I'd say Zobrist, Schwarber, and Bote are your 3 most days. have you watched any cubs games since the walkoff grand slam? bote hasn’t played that much and has been terrible. Like I said, if he proves to not be an actual god by the time Bryant is back, this all changes. The league has made an adjustment. He has time to make an adjustment. Murphy is great insurance if he doesn't. Also, I forgot Russell existed in my previous post.
