  1. Way to go out on a limb there.
  2. Team wins in pitcher starts are almost as meaningless as pitcher wins. This is actually a great example of that. If the team was below .500 in his starts, but Stroman was a 113 ERA+, (good enough for 27th if he pitched enough innings to qualify) that shows you that he did enough to put the team above .500 and THE REST OF THE TEAM let him down in those starts. Stroman was good when he pitched and his production will take much more than a warm body to replace. What is so hard to understand about this?
  3. Pitcher wins are meaningless. He produced 1.6 bWar. And a 113 era+, which would be good for 27th in MLB among qualifiers. With his 147 ERA+ last year Assad stands a half-decent chance of replacing those numbers, but I expect a significant regression. And who replaces Assad's numbers?
  4. Did you miss that every time he threw to first, he had to run halfway across the diamond before he threw? If he was a plus defender at third, it was because of his range. Making him an option at 2B.
  5. Madrigal in particular does not have the arm for third.
  6. It’s not creating another need if you like madrigal and morel at 2B. to reiterate. I don’t think it happens. Although Hoerner will never have more value than he has right now.. I don’t think it happens.
  7. I don’t think it happens. But I don’t think they’d be looking at him for second. They’d want him at third. The Jays would want a major league ready SS in return and would ask for Hoerner. The Cubs wouldn’t do that…UNLESS….they like Morel/Madrigal at 2B more than they like them at 3B. They then use Hoerner to lower the prospect cost on Bichette. That’s the only way the Cubs trade for Bichette. I don’t think it happens. (also, free agents get to say they won’t move off of SS, players acquired in trades don’t get that authority)
  8. I don’t want Bichette because I think Hoerner would be involved. There’s no way Toronto moves Bichette without a right now replacement for him. Morel would man second. I don’t think that improves the team.
  9. There's no way Soto doesn't test the market, right?
  10. And no agent would ever talk to you again.
  11. Playoffs are a crapshoot and Rossy blew it down the stretch by abusing his late inning guys worse that Dusty abused his starters. The only thing missing was fishing metaphors. I think manager is where “intangibles” matter the most. I love Ross’ intensity, and he really does seem to get a lot out of his players. Meanwhile Counsell seems to have the energy of an old boot on the end of your line. but Counsell allocates resources (manages) in a game and over a season better than Ross.
  12. Agreed on Little, but also, Alzolay and Leiter wouldn’t have been toast in Sept. if Rossy hadn’t been chasing wins in July. Using Leiter July 31 down 2 to Cincy is just one of many examples. That’s where you’ve got to give other guys a chance to step up.
  13. I, too, am aghast.
  14. Add to the above that the cubs are one of six teams in the league with a positive run differential and the only one in their division. I mean I get both sides, but I think Jed would be in hot water if he threw up his hands and said, “whelp, we tried” after Ricketts’ very public declaration that Jed has the resources he needs to go out and get guys this past off season.
  15. In this particular instance it seems to be a non-issue, since we are short on at-bats. As long as he could theoretically be an emergency bat off the bench in the 14th inning, I say its better for him to be on the roster not getting PAs than to bring up Velazquez to not get PAs.
  16. I said this team would remind people of 2015. I think it does, but with so many of the prospects still yet to reach the majors, maybe its more like if ownership had shamed them into spending too much in 2014. The result, i think, will still be barely making the playoffs and losing in the first round.
  17. I really think the bolded above says a lot about their expectations of the farm. I don't think they intend to sign any of the existing position players past '26. I think they expect 1B and two outfield positions to come from the farm by the end of the year, and for Happ to find his way back to the infield or out the door if both Davis and PCA are contributing in September. From Hoerner's perspective, the shortness is all about his belief in himself as a SS.
  18. I feel like there is no way they cut Hosmer. They surely had to make him some verbal guarantees when they picked him up. I don’t feel like we’re the only team that wanted him at league minimum.
  19. Pete LaCock?
  20. I’ll lurk daily for 20 years and post once a month, contributing nothing but a quip that three or four people find funny and everyone else ignores. This I promise you. Oh and pictures of Cardinals fans with Nazi tattoos. 2016. It’s been 7 years since I’ve contributed anything to this board. 2016 is also the year I started my masters. I graduate with my doctorate in May. Perhaps I’ll have more tattoos for you once the writing is done.
  21. And seriously, if you ever see me doing something you don't like, PM me and I will *always* respond. This is a group effort. Sometimes our goals will align, sometimes they won't. But I'll listen every single time and give my own reasoning for any decision. Obvi, that applies to everyone reading this. 22. The link you showed is not him mis-hitting a pitch. That is him intentionally fouling off a pitch down 0-2. He’s protecting the plate. That’s all of it. The embedded video is ahead in the count and swinging away. But thanks to your analysis, I’ll be looking to see if his posture changes down 0-2 once the games start counting, or if he does it in high leverage situations, or not at all.
