  1. Theseus' hip
  2. A million. Interestingly, also a million on the nincompoop scale. I have to say, he's fun to watch. And all the extra bases make up for the nincompoopery. If he can continue his recent run of not doing stupid things on the bases, he's going to be even more valuable than I imagined.
  3. Unbelievable. Some thoughts: 1. Time to do something about the 5th spot in the rotation. 2. This sweep is the ONLY way the Cubs keep their season alive. 3. I actually believed this was possible. No way a month ago I would've kept watching. 4. Sad that Busch was unable to participate in the party. He is slumping badly. Although if I have to choose between him slumping and literally the entire rest of the team slumping, screw Busch.
  4. How often do you get to screw both teams' closers in the same game?
  5. But he's been back for a month. Dead arm period?
  6. It is. And so is limiting base runners, which makes the big flies ok.
  7. They have the third most ninth inning blown leads behind the rockies and the d-backs. Said a different way: acquiring an elite closer should be the number one priority this offseason. Said a different way: the problem with this team was Adbert playing through being broken and Hector Neris playing through being.
  8. Shaw never sees AAA unless his star fades significantly.
  9. I think they would have (and still could, I guess) if they were overwhelmed with an offer that they felt made them better in '25 and beyond. They just...weren't.
  10. Nearly half of that WAR has been defense in the past. None of it is this year. How much of his reduced dWAR is regression/age, how much is having more fly ball pitchers, and how much is "having a down year"?
  11. Because our eyes are on 2025 and beyond. The "beyond" part is significant. Hoerner starts getting expensive soon. He is signed through '26 (his age 29 season). Then free agency. If he is not a 100 OPS+ guy he's not going to have as much surplus value in his next contract as in this one. His .1 dWAR is not going to get better with age.
  12. Major league ready =/= current first division starter. It means PCA level of "ready". As in, still plenty of work to do, some risk, plenty of upside but unlikely to reach that upside in time for a team trying to go deep in the playoffs this year.
  13. Has anyone looked into how deep left center field is in Tampa? I think some fly balls there could be basket shots at Wrigley.
  14. I never indicated Paredes was a sure thing. The question was asked if this changes the calculus on Taillon. It does not. Jed made it clear he would only “buy” if it made sense 2025 and beyond. This is that kind of move. Taillon will only be traded if it makes sense 2025 and beyond. Same as before this trade. This trade very likely makes the team better in 2025, a year in which Jed hopes to prove himself worthy of another contract. Sure thing. Certainly not. Likely improved 3B situation in 2025. Definitely.
  15. How about Paredes?
  16. This. And what I think they are missing is an obvious fix to Morel at the plate. The fact that the Rays are willing to make this trade is evidence that Kelly and Mallee should be fired.
  17. I don’t think so. Paredes is a move with an eye on “25 and beyond. Starting pitcher is a position of strength (this year’s injuries notwithstanding).
  18. One of my preseason bold predictions was that Little would be the closer by the end of the year. I had really had high hopes for him. I’m a sucker for big lefties. I’m still hoping Andy Sisco rises from the dead. i really hope Little can come back from this.
  19. We should get this guy and hand him the 3B job next year.
  20. You said “Why on earth are people so damn afraid of trading a "decent backup," which is a stretch considering he's a replacement level player as it stands, for a potential decent starter? I’m saying you are blind to the value Morel has. Be a little more diligent.
