    I agree with this, but would add that we (fans) wanted two pitchers in the offseason and Jed delivered Boyd and Rea. Temper your expectations. And yes I realize that without Rea and Boyd, this Cubs team would not be as good as they have been. Blind nut somethingsomething...finds a squirrel something something.

    I'm convinced that extra day games was a huge liability as late as the early 2000's. Somewhere around 2015 they expanded it to 35 night games, leaving 46 day games. When you consider about half of those are played in April, May and September, I see it as an actual benefit for pitcher heath on cold nights. That's right, it changed in 2015? and then they won the world series. It WAS a liability. The 2004 Ordinance allowed the Cubs to schedule up to 30 night games to be phased in by 2006 (with 22 night games in 2004 and 26 night games in 2005) at Wrigley Field during the regular season. The 2004 Ordinance extends through at least 2015.

    PCA taking two walks, and then stealing second is huge. Force them to pitch to you. If a pitcher focuses on “don’t walk this guy” he may throw a meatball. If he focuses on “don’t throw a meatball” he may walk PCA. If PCA can take walks, it’s going to be impossible to do anything with him.

    I did not see a post for Braiser activated and Roberts optioned yesterday. Additionally Merriweather DFA'd and Kriske selected today. This is not a push for megathreads, but they're better than nothreads.

    Mark Grace as a comp? So he needs Busch to fool around with Dansby's wife in order to make it to the bigs?

    Run him up to 50 pitches in the first two innings. Who was the pittsburgh pitcher the Cubs broke in 2016 or 2017 by running him up to like 70 pitches in two innings?

    And take a walk. At some point his slug will slump and he'll have to OBP his way to value for a couple weeks. But with that defense...I can wait a couple weeks for the slug to come back.

    Not just that, but I love getting into a team's bullpen early the first game of a series. It limits their options throughout the rest of the series. This was more true back in the days of 11-man pitching staffs, but I think it does give a small advantage still in this era if the manager is making bullpen decisions tomorrow with two or three guys "unavailable".

    You mean we can't generalize an entire generation? A generation that contained members some of which corrupted corporate America beyond recognition and others burned their draft cards and performed sit-ins to stand up for equal rights?     Except that at some point it will cool down and he will have to take walks to use his base stealing as a threat. See Dansby early. Couldn't hit his way out of a paper bag, but kept taking his walks. Fortunately with PCA (as with Dansby) his defense will carry him through slumps. He just has So. Many. Weapons.

    This is not at all the same as suggesting Busch play 3B. Across all levels, Busch has twice as much time at 2B as at 1B, and half as much time at 3B as 1B. It is a perfectly reasonable suggestion. I don't agree with it, but it's not at all absurd like you make it out to be.

    As a lifelong Cubs fan I know we can’t have nice things. I wonder what happens when the league adjusts and how he will be able to react. I hope this a new normal (with obvious significant regression) but I’ve known too many Frank Schwindell’s.

    What an inning. That's what winning teams do. They didn't fold after some frustrating developments. Busch just went way up in my estimation.

    See, I feel like this is an opportunity to get a look and get them some rest. Instead of going every 5 days in Iowa, bring one up the one time you need a fifth starter (lots of off days) and the other up once when you don't need a fifth starter to get Imanaga an extra day of rest once in there. With all the off days you could *almost* go six day rotation with the off day as the sixth man. Get each of them some extra rest when you send them back down. This gets you well through May (at least one off day every week in May) and now you're looking at teams that aren't competing being a little more ready to deal.
