  1. Yeah. That’s kinda what he does with the splitter. He doesn’t miss bats, bats pound it into the ground on him.
  2. The way that reads is PCA in every game. You could have a game with Tauchman in CF and Canario or Wisdom in RF. More accurately, 3 of Tauchmam, PCA, Wisdom, Canario, Mervis.
  3. He's obviously there for his glove.
  4. NSBB needs a new poster primer, tutorial, FAQ, entrance exam or new poster class to bring people up to speed on topics like SSS, recency bias, opportunity cost, and sunk cost.
  5. I agree. Pretty unlikely. Cassie’s most likely paths to the majors this year include a long term injury to multiple players and Morel continuing to hit so poorly that you don’t have to “find a place for the bat”.
  6. I disagree. I think depth is a strength of this team. Kind of hard to anticipate your two (hopefully ) best pitchers and two best hitters going down in the first month. That said, at least on the pitching side, the replacements have been strong. On the hitting side, with happ and Suzuki down you get a good look at a prospect and Wisdom waiting in the wings.
  7. I think this will be huge. I don't trust his fly ball profile with the wind howling out in June. He will give up home runs. But if he's not offering up free passes in front of the occasional long ball, I think he can do well in Wrigley. I don't think he'll be THIS good, (maintaining a 0.00 ERA over a complete season is historical somewhat difficult) but I still think he has the possibility to be a solid 2 if he remains elite at not walking people.
  8. To come out of these first three series 6-3 is quite an accomplishment.
  9. I feel like early season “dead arm period” performance against the World Series champs and the bugs bunny all-star line up might not be the best way to judge a guy.
  10. Tied for third behind O's and M's, but your point stands.
  11. For a major league pitcher, yeah. At your local Wal-Mart, maybe less so. Shorter than 6'8 and 6'6 anyway. I'm just saying, if you have to do a bullpen game, maximize the change of look as much as possible. Leiter is 6'0, but of course, you use him close and late.
  12. I'm a once-through-the-order piggyback guy. Once through with the tall lefty, once with the tall righty, then the short lefty, and finally the short righty. Little Brown Smyly Leiter
  13. Is that arm strength positionally adjusted? Is that 53rd percentile among left fielders or all MLers? He came up as a middle infielder. Any chance he could handle third and send Morel to LF if the Morel-at-third experiment fails. I know you don't typically do that to a veteran or to your player rep, but how much would that increase his value!?
  14. Oh I know. I was being obtuse. I was responding to a poster who was being critical. It was a good article.
  15. Not angry. The previous poster was being obnoxious. I (perhaps unwisely) responded in kind.
  16. As an educator, I can tell you a zero really brings a grade down fast. A+ + B- + A- + A + A + zero/6 leaves you with a B- or less. (95+80+90+92+92+0)/6 = 74. A solid C. Author is being generous. The author is saying what was done was good, but the student didn't complete all their work. You need to catch up on your basic math. Can we please stop being obtuse now?
  17. I expect them to piggyback Assad (R) and Smyly (L) until Taillon is back. Twice through the order with each then to the bullpen. Prevents a lefty righty advantage or burns through opponent's bench giving Counsell a strategic advantage either in the 4th inning or the 7th.
  18. I disagree. If you have someone of fringy quality like Mastroboni, and that person has options, then using them when Madrigal is hurt is valuable. That may also be an opportunity to give Shaw a cup of coffee later in the year. You get what you can out of Madrigal while he's cheap and when he's not injured. It's not like you are counting on him to be a starter or paying him to be a starter. Once he hits free agency and someone has to pay him real money, his inconsistent health becomes a much bigger concern.
  19. If Happ and Madrigal get healthy before anyone else needs to be IL’d for a minor (or God forbid major) injury, either Mastro or Wisdom will suffer a pulled hangnail.
  20. I still don’t think it looks good for Smyly in the rotation.. That’s a lot of left handedness in the rotation and not much left in the bullpen.
  21. I love Sammy and would want him to be enshrined in statue alongside Ernie, Billy, Santo, Fergie and Ryno, as long as it is the Dominican version of him rather than the Transylvanian version.
  22. No. If we lay low long enough and evade the law, we can get away with anything but murder.
