  1. Kaner's point drought ends at four games.
  2. Niemi looks fantastic right now. Also, turning around your Blackhawks' season: Tomas Kopecky?
  3. Detroit is losing 4-2 to Philadelphia.
  4. No, you don't. The major-league team does not have a responsibility to give them a chance. The only responsibility the Cubs have is to put the best players on the field.
  5. In this scenario, we're trading the guy who put up a .375 OBP in the majors last season to clear a spot for the guy who has never come within 40 points of that in the minors. =D>
  6. His 2008 form was him hiding bad pitching behind a decent ERA propped up by a ton of unearned runs.
  7. I'm going with "because the Cubs have some kind of weird blind spot for how awful he is at baseball."
  8. I think a lot of those are outrageous. Well, mostly the ones involving pitching. Especially Chapman.
  9. According to the Bears' facebook page, Brown has been released. Edit: http://www.chicagobears.com/news/NewsStory.asp?story_id=6658
  10. Yes. I think that's more irony than "lovable loser."
  11. More tournament spots = more jobs saved for coaches. They are pushing for this hard.
  12. That's pretty much expected with a bullpen composed of pitchers without major league experience. However, that may not be a bad thing for the future. If everyone stinks, the Cubs know they'll need to be active next offseason. If one or two guys emerge, that should give the bullpen some stability and also keep Lou from using Marmol way too freaking much. I'm more worried about some of the guys with MLB experience. Marmol is too walky, Grabow is slightly less too walky, and Samardzija is just bad.
  13. I believe that this belief is nothing more than superstition, a second-cousin to the people who believe that a guy who hits .310 with runners in scoring position has a special ability to do so. Why didn't the UberHawks of the first-half of the season stay that way, when they played that way for 30+ games? Both the defense and the goaltending have proven they are capable of excellence over a stretch as long as the playoffs. And they've proven it this season.
  14. No, you consistently imply that this 30-game stretch is the only thing that means anything, and I keep telling you that you are wrong.
  15. I'm not saying it's for sure going to turn around. I'm saying it might. Because "almost half the season" isn't the entire sample we have on this team. We have an entire season that says they are capable of both ends of the spectrum.
  16. Agreed. So why not consider both the hot start and the cold finish. Why only the cold finish?
  17. Streaks last forever. True story. Teams never, ever change how they are playing. I'm not sure how this team went from playing awesome to awful, but that's the only time it will ever happen in the entire existence of sports.
  18. Might as well try Huet again.
  19. The implosion potential in that bullpen is amazing.
  20. Do you have any evidence that how a team plays in the second half is more predictive of their playoff performance than how they play in the whole season? You continue to miss the point What exactly is the point? You think the most recent results should be the only thing we consider. I think we should consider the entirety of the sample. This team is clearly not as good as they looked for the first few months of the season. But they are capable of looking that good again at any time, just like they are capable of being this mediocre again for awhile.
  21. Do you have any evidence that how a team plays in the second half is more predictive of their playoff performance than how they play in the whole season?
  22. I'm choosing to take the entire sample. The Blackhawks have proven themselves to be one of the best teams in their conference. The second half proves they aren't as good as they were at the beginning. But the first half proves they aren't as bad as they've been in the second half.
  23. affect
  24. I'm guessing many of you are experts on the ordinary sentences for gun offenses in the District of Columbia, and thus have a solid basis to judge whether or not he got special treatment?
