  1. I hope Soriano homers here and does some sort of wrestling move to celebrate.
  2. And while we were doing it, when he came back out for another inning with 115 pitches already thrown, in a 10-run game, many fans would still be defending the decision.
  3. Even if he pitches exactly as expected the rest of the season, this start alone adds 0.3 to his final ERA and knocks his ERA+ down by about 7 points.
  4. Mark Prior was pretty big. and he got hit on the elbow with a line drive, his pitching elbow, just when he looked like he was putting it together. his [expletive] pitching elbow Dusty killed him and he was probably going to be done within months regardless. He began having arm problems that spring, before the line drive off the elbow. Not to mention sending him back out there after the line drive...
  5. Die in a fire Theriot. NOW you can catch a simple popup?
  6. Iowa is for people who have some chance at becoming a productive big leaguer someday. Please just cut Samardzija.
  7. Mark Prior was pretty big. You can talk all you want about bad luck, but this organization makes its own freaking bed and then craps in it.
  8. Whatever you projected Zambrano's ERA to be this season, this game should add roughly 0.33 to it.
  9. I bet the Braves would take Colvin for Heyward. Given Colvin's ST stats, we should probably ask them for a low-minors pitching prospect as a throw-in.
  10. The problem with the capocalypse already hit us. I'm pretty sure we could have added a goalie if we weren't completely stuck up against the cap.
  11. imb *did* use capital letters earlier in the thread. It was the biggest upset of the day.
  12. yes. It's one day. And you don't change your projection about the team for one day. But that doesn't mean every time you fall back a game, your chances don't lower a little.
  13. Has a team ever came from one back after one game to win it all? Yes. But the odds are a little lower than if they weren't a game back.
  14. A bad game shouldn't change your expectations for the team. But anytime the Cubs lose and the Cardinals win, the playoff odds get a little lower.
  15. The mystifying thing about Samardzija isn't that he's bad. It's that there was never really a good reason to think he wouldn't be bad.
  16. He was the Cubs best pitcher for awhile and nobody* noticed. Then he started to lose a little and nobody* noticed. I wonder if anyone will notice whatever happens next. * - Mainstream fans and press
  17. Mediocre in college, mediocre in the minors, bad in the majors. Who could have expected him to be bad now? Totally not the Cubs' fault.
  18. Oh wait, the defense messed up. Now it's not a bad inning for Samardzija.
  19. Dude we are winning this year. This is EXACTLY how major league started.
  20. lolSamardzija. We can talk all about trades and whatnot, but Samardzija is proof positive that the people in charge of this team cannot tell the difference between a good baseball player and a bad one.
