  1. This Flyers team is so slow. So motherfucking slow. Can we get a motherfucking curse ban lifted in this [expletive]? Because I [expletive] love me some Dave Bolland!
  2. Still taking stupid penalties. Why is that such a problem for this team?
  3. Brilliant skill evens out the horsecrap luck.
  4. Hooray, we're already taking penalties. Again.
  5. Bolland line starting? I used to hate Q's complete, unwavering devotion to matchups. But he is 21-12 in the playoffs for this team.
  6. Other than Pronger/Keith, I don't see how the teams are all that different in terms of style. But I keep hearing how it's Philly's toughness vs. Chicago's speed.
  7. Kopecky seems a little more talented, to me, but Ladd is more reliable. Pick your poison, I guess.
  8. Byfuglien's mom said he's made it to the final at every level she's seen him play, but never won.
  9. I've seen video of the end of game 4 from the CBC feed. The sound is a hell of a lot better. You can actually tell there is a crowd there, and that they are loud. They are doing a big feature on Byfuglien's family. Growing up in a trailer behind his grandparents' house, secondhand equipment, etc. Single mom and grandparents, all very white. I didn't realize that.
  10. Ooh, got myself a CBC feed. That should be fun. They take this ish seriously.
  11. The team with home-ice advantage has won 18 of the last 22 finals.
  12. Not the time to be thinking about it, but Bettman was quoted yesterday that he expects the cap to go up $2 million next season. That won't fix the Hawks' cap situation, but it will relieve some of the pressure.
  13. Rumor has it Obama is in the building tonight.
  14. Ladd is out, according to another board.
  15. Keys for the Blackhawks 1) Defensive responsibility. Keep Philadelphia under 30 shots, preferably under 25. Philly doesn't have a Sedin or Thornton line, they just have solid depth all the way through, so this needs to be a team effort. 2) Stay out of the penalty box! For a team that plays physically but not *that* physically, it sure seems they take a lot of penalties. A lot of silly little penalties, usually involving a wayward stick. 3) Make them skate. Philadelphia is a strong skating team, especially at forward, but they don't want their four-D rotation being forced to skate up and down the ice a lot. Keys for the Flyers: 1) Finish chances. Every time I've seen the Flyers play, they score their goals by capitalizing on defensive breakdowns. They won't get a ton of those vs. the Hawks, most likely, but they can win by burying them. 2) Clear rebounds. The Blackhawks haven't faced a set of defensemen this good at clearing the front of the crease in the playoffs. They aren't going to be able to keep the net clear before the shot, but like Seabrook, they should be excellent at clearing it after. 3) Puck possession. Deny the cycle and the long shifts in their own end.
  16. why is a team with most of its top players still improving likely to drop off some next year? Cap problems will force them to drop a couple of key second-tier forwards.
  17. How long was it before the NHL abandoned the locality-centric draft rules? Where you essentially drew teams from your surrounding area? I imagine that really hamstrung a Chicago team compared to New York, Boston and the Canadian teams.
  18. Are the innings only high leverage because they're in the ninth inning? Otherwise, there are a decent amount of three-run lead (or even two-run), one inning saves with the bases clear. A true stopper, high-leverage only role would be ideal, but usually ninth-inning only is high-leverage enough to be worth it.
  19. Interesting. I always assumed it was a floor under there.
