    Funny, I was thinking today that the chances of him ending up in the OF are underrated. There are three reasons you might shift him from SS: 1) He gets too big for the position 2) He makes too many errors trying to field ground balls and convert them to outs 3) You want to improve his long-term health outlook because his bat is so valuable. Moving to 2b doesn't really solve any of them, and to 3b only does partially.

    We're like junkies. The only thrill we know is the brief high of adding new prospects to the lists, no matter how much it ruins our lives.

    On the one hand, one game shouldn't make that much of a difference. On the other hand, 4 #@%$#@ home runs in one game makes a huge difference. Four in a week makes a difference.

    The fundamental issue would be that if they can make mistakes like this with $2 million, what does that say about their ability to spend $20 million? But they've made enough good decisions in the last year that I think this should be overlooked.

    Given that he's clearly willing to pull stunts like this to try to get himself released, is it time to revisit the possibility that his nagging ST injury was conveniently timed to keep him from being released before his salary became fully guaranteed?

    OK, which numbers are the most important and what do they mean for Baez? What? For examples, how should I balance concern for Baez's 6:1 K/BB ratio with his .250+ ISO? Which K-rate is more meaningful: Total Daytona, Daytona since the beginning of this season, last 120 PAs? At what age do errors for young SS's start to be concerning?

    All I said was "hard to ignore." I didn't carve it into a stone plaque or anything. This is always going to be more art than science. If I'm evaluating Baez, I'm using his 23.6% K-rate for the season as my starting point.

    last 28 days: .374/.437/.725, 5.8% BB, 14.6% K, .386 babip great to see his K rate so low there BABIP and home run rates will have their spikes, but <15% K-rate over (an admittedly arbitrary) month-long sample is pretty hard to ignore.

    I had something other than the internet to do for 90 minutes (odd, I know) and I came back to check the minor league stats and immediately saw "HR: DAY: Baez, J 4 (13) ." I immediately, involuntarily exclaimed "Are you #$%@#$ kidding me!?!" in amazement. Wow.
