  1. Continue to be impressed with their play in this tournament without Altidore. They aren't in Germany's class, but they are clearly in the next tier.
  2. ITG: Epic rope-a-dope in progress
  3. Is Manny fringe-average-plus? in LF?
  4. Well crap. $10m AAV is a freaking lot under this cap.
  5. photo from warmups:
  6. "Oh are we touching boobs now?" No. No we are not.
  7. Not as long as Kasparov is still kicking. I bet I could at least out-douche Nakamura. And that's no small feat.
  8. I had no idea that was in the definition. Carry on...
  9. That's tough. I'd like to think my douche game could hang in the pros, but you can't underestimate the douchiness of professional athletes.
  10. Not really. That's pretty productive despite the K/BB rates. Shows his approach won't completely kill him, though obviously his numbers could be immaculate with a 5% positive change to BB and K rate. Did you mean to post this in the 2012 Brett Jackson thread?
  11. But he doesn't have a .930 OPS. He has a .785 OPS.
  12. That is just stupid, how is that even a thing?
  13. I'm not a fan of assuming that the extenuating circumstances matter. A two-year break from baseball means he missed a lot of important time. That's not a point in his favor, that's a point against. Baseball players *usually* don't get a whole lot better after about the age of 24 or 25, so if he's not close to a major leaguer now, it's just not a good sign. Pitchers are different. They don't have the same sort of learning curve that hitters do.
  14. Yeah congrats that's basically the 1990s Utah Jazz arc.
  15. So when does he take over for Lake in LF? Tomorrow or the Cubs are just being cheap.
  16. Iran Bosnia's gonna have a fight by the end.
  17. ??? Was this like a *wink* *wink* we have a trade in the works, don't opt out just yet type of thing? Selecting the contract puts him on the 40-man. Optioning him keeps him on the 40-man but not on the 25-man. He needed to go on the 40-man to avoid an opt-out clause he had in his contract.
  18. You're wrong about this, too.
  19. I learned my lesson, I'll never be optimistic again about a prospect. We should start a thread where we post the worst baseball opinions we've posted with the benefit of hindsight.
  20. If I had to project that trio for 2015, which I fully and freely admit is really tricky and has a very wide range of outcomes, I'd take the under on hitting those marks. I trust Bryant to get the .800, I see Alcantara as a high-.600s rookie (which is still not too bad these days) and WTF knows what is going on with Baez.
  21. You probably think that bothers me, but it doesn't even a little bit. That's baseball. Everybody looks like an idiot if you go back and start pulling quotes. Well, everybody that talks about baseball regularly. Heck, I was way more aggressively anti-Arrieta than I was pro-Vitters. Buying into Vitters too long isn't even in my top 10 (and I learned my lesson, no more optimism): He's not worth a minor-league roster spot. Is that a good reason? That's in 2010 in reference to Jeff Samardzija.
  22. And the offense is still not very good. I think we forget how tough the transition from AAA to MLB has been, especially in the first year. Rizzo went from 700 PAs of 1.050 OPS to .805.
  23. aggressively wrong That's the best way to be wrong.
  24. I'd rather have Rizzo than Votto
