  1. hendry should send lou a link to the bullpen stats, which show that the bullpen isn't bad at all. It's been bad when it counts, though. Might have changed in the last few days, but recently we were dead last in expected wins/loss added. The difference between the overall stats and the situation-sensitive stats is why Piniella is the only thing standing in the way of a Cubs division title.
  2. It depresses me how many times I've heard the "manager is using bad players to send a message to Hendry" proposition in the last five seasons.
  3. LOL, finally got him. Fox with more confidence in his pickoff move than his pitches.
  4. He allowed two runs while he was in the game and left the game in a run-expectancy situation of 1.61. 3.61 ER in 4.33 IP is an era of 7.48. That's a bad day regardless of the weather or recent usage pattern.
  5. Not to mention intentionally loading the bases before he came in.
  6. i think his point is that projection for gallagher isn't nearly as optimistic as most people on this board think he will be - which is a perfectly valid point. i don't know that he'll be any better than lieber or even marquis this season. Yes, that's all I'm saying. Right now, Gallagher projects to be about the same as Lieber or Marquis and he had a bad day today. It's not blasphemy to admit either of those things.
  7. Are you related to him? Is it so hard to say that a pitcher had a bad day? That a good minor-league pitcher projects to a mediocre (not bad, just mediocre) major-leaguer? And I should specify that I mean projects *right now* to be a mediocre major-leaguer. At his age, that's an accomplishment.

  9. We're back to the point where I'm not sure I want them to win.
  10. It wasn't all that bad all things considered. 4.1 IP, 4 ER, 5 H, 3 BB, 6 K. Yes, it was pretty bad. If this was a Marquis game, people would be roasting him. Or, to use fangraph, he lowered the Cubs' chances of winning by 14.4% points. Lets just ignore he pitched 3 days ago, or that hes only pitched 4 innings in a week. He was cruising untill the 5th inning, and honestly shouldnt be a surprise he started missing with his pitches. Excuses can be made for anyone. Performance counts.
  11. I'm saying they project to him being a mediocre major-leaguer this season.
  12. I know Lou is unpopular right now, but at what point is a major league pitcher accountable for throwing strikes? We can argue if putting Fox in was the right move all day long, but the fact is that Fox couldn't throw a strike. Chad Fox shouldn't be a major-league pitcher. That's on Piniella and Hendry equally.

  14. Of course, lost in all this will be that Sean Gallagher's day wasn't all that good.
  15. That's a bit harsh. At the very least, Johnson's a good platoon fifth outfielder.
  16. Cubs fans who defend Piniella deserve everything this organization has done to them in its history.
  17. In Lou's world (and fans out there who deserve him), this game is a freebie because Zambrano was supposed to start and didn't, so none of this really makes him wrong.
  18. I didn't say that. I said his minor-league numbers pointed to major-league mediocrity. Mediocrity in the majors is still pretty good.
  19. Several. Nothing like using your organization's 25th best pitcher in a high-leverage situation.
  20. That sounds a lot more like excuse-making for lack of performance than evidence. How is that excuse making? Soto's loss of weight has equaled better performance, why do you find it so hard to believe that Gallaghers loss of weight hasnt done the same? Also Seans use in the pen was sporadic at best, and should be taken with a huge grain of salt. Soto's loss of weight equaled better performance. Gallagher's, to this point, has not, so I see no reason to change his projections from what they were before he lost weight.
  21. That sounds a lot more like excuse-making for lack of performance than evidence. Or it's a logical reason. It's a logical reason for a pitcher whose performance projected to positive major-league numbers before the changes. But they didn't. He's a good prospect and a major-leaguer, but a 93-MPH fastball doesn't change that the majors and minors have both treated him like a mediocre pitcher on a pretty consistent basis.
  22. In the fifth inning, I really, really hate this intentional walk. It's desperation move to hope to get out of the inning without a run, rather than a move to limit the damage and move on.
  23. That sounds a lot more like excuse-making for lack of performance than evidence.
  24. I'd put our best starters for the rest of the season as Zambrano, Lilly, Hill, Marshall, Lieber, Dempster/Gallagher tied, Marquis. He deserves it more than Marquis would, but I still don't think he's among our best five starters.
