  1. He's up to 56 IP with 22 runs allowed (15 earned, but a high UER total is a great sign of your stats making you look better than you are). I think that's within the range of a very mediocre pitcher on a hot streak. 5 of those came in one game. That could just as easily be the fluke. DEMPSTER! I think that makes it look even worse, because that almost certainly means he was getting shelled in a two-out situation where an error gave him a freebie. Here's a case for how it might be possible he's legit: He's turning roughly 6% of his batters faced from line drives to ground balls based on career numbers, he's throwing more fastballs and all his pitches have about 2 MPH less velocity than when he was a relievers. There seems to be a case for him trying to throw with more movement.

  3. This Padres lineup is making Dempster look like Brandon Webb.
  4. When the opposing pitcher is right-handed, I question half of No. 1. I'll rephrase. Edmonds is not better than a Johnson/Pie platoon. Agreed. And it's not even remotely close.

  6. It's really hard to say that when Theriot is doing what he's doing. Even if Cedeno were playing up to this point, I fail to see how he could be doing much better than Theriot has. I'd rather play Cedeno, but at this point there's no way you can really say we'd be doing much better with him playing. Include baserunning and defense, I think it's close.
  7. Cedeno walks. I weep at how good this team might be if they weren't constantly trying to avoid playing their best players.
  8. Lee should sac bunt to get two in scoring position for ramirez.
  9. NL pitchers as a whole: .148 .187 .192 Cubs pitchers (before today): .186 .195 .279 Any position where you can get an extra 95 points of OPS is a good position in your lineup.
  10. Hit-and-run or run-and-hit? Looked like he had a decent jump.
  11. Ronny Cedeno proving that he should stay on the bench, because he doesn't need regular playing time to hit.
  12. how's the math today? 12 outs, four have been used up while he's at-bat. Right? Unless he caused an out during his single...no. Okay, so the math isn't a problem, the memory is.

  14. One-third of the Cubs' outs have been used up on Edmonds at-bats.
  15. You misplay that ball and its an inside the park HR. I see a line drive coming at me and cower, covering my face with my glove.
  16. Blanco hits his line drive for the week and is robbed in center by Jody Gerut. Edmonds plays that on a hop, Johnson misplays it into a triple and Pie catches it at a job.
  17. He spent hours practicing that while a Cub You mean deflecting the ball off the catcher's glove in such a precise way that it bounces straight back? Yes. His control is that good. He whispered three words in Rich Hill's ear, adding 5 MPH to his fastball.
  18. Maddux is so smart he did that on purpose, I think.
  19. Ramirez out at home on a wild pitch that takes a bad bounce off the bricks. I'm mad, but I can't really blame him.
  20. That Yahoo thing comes straight from the AP box score they are templating, I believe. Unless both Yahoo and AP get it from MLB or something. Edmonds mostly cheered, a few boos.
  21. Fukudome gets every borderline call, it seems. Love the respect.
