  1. This game has touched or crossed the 50% line on fangraphs eight times already. Exciting, heart-straining stuff.
  2. Tie game, eighth inning, long reliever. Piniella really is just picking names out of a hat.
  3. All we need now is two innings of Marmol and hope that someone gets on in the next two innings to bring up Soriano in the ninth.
  4. http://www.fangraphs.com/lgraphs/280517116_Pirates_Cubs_73417752_lbig.png
  5. Next up, Sarah Chalke walks into the room and I wake up. This isn't real.
  6. Wind knocked it down, but a better LFer doesn't have to dive for it. Hillenmeyer's main skills are the ability to stand in a spot and not miss tackles. He's amazingly lucky to have lucked into that job, there aren't too many schemes in all of football where he starts.
  7. What similarities are there besides earned runs? Four innings, one run before falling apart in the fifth and leaving with the bases loaded. End result, 4 innings vs. 4.1 innings, 4 ER vs. 4 ER, 1 UER. Seems pretty similar to me. There are some similarites in the end results, but its quite a stretch to say Gallagher's outing was as bad as Zambrano's today. Guilty. Just pointing out that sometimes fans tend to adjust a bit too much for expectations. All results count the same. Soto with another passed ball...

  9. I shouldn't keep harping on this, but Zambrano with virtually an identical start to Gallagher's first start, which was almost universally praised as good.
  10. Reed Johnson needs to strike out here and look bad doing it, thus convincing the Pirates to try to squeeze the seventh out of Duke.
  11. Passed ball that led to a run, bad slide leading to a key out and now a chase in the dirt. Bad day for Soto.
  12. Would a big part be considered him not entering the game and thus hurting us? When they bring in a right-handed reliever and Reed Johnson is up in a key situation, who do you want? I guess maybe Fontenot.
  13. I'd rather Ramirez take that pitch and risk the call than swing, knowing he can't do anything with it.
  14. Duke has thrown a lot of pitches and is coming from a long layoff, and he's facing the heart of the order. This is a big inning.
  15. It crosses your mind, but you have to take the out. When the bases are loaded with one out, you have to accept that you are probably giving up runs and just hope to minimize.
  16. Derrek Lee is so freaking good at baseball. 5-4 is a huge victory for Wuertz, though that ball was smoked.
  17. Sac fly to right in foul territory. Helluva throw by Fukudome to make it somewhat close on what should have been an easy score.
  18. Curse of the bat break! http://www.fangraphs.com/lgraphs/280517116_Pirates_Cubs_73390164_lbig.png
