  1. Nowhere near like Thursday for the first 50 minutes. They look fine, it's just a close, tough game.
  2. We're going to hit on one of those breakaway passes eventually. Flames are overpursuing.
  3. Nice and intense. Blackhawks starting to get into the spirit of it, Calgary frustrated. Versteeg has apparently been yapping nonstop.
  4. We smoked them in the regular season, but I didn't want to post too much while watching the game (and didn't particularly feel like posting for most of it anyway). A quick goal or two here and we let Calgary know this series is over.
  5. I really, really wish the Cardinals didn't have Albert Pujols. 17-year-old KyleJRM, do something!
  6. A runner on first/two outs would be a lot more exciting if the runner weren't Soto and the batter weren't Theriot. It'll take two hits to score this run.
  7. exciting game http://www.fangraphs.com/lgraphs/290418116_Cardinals_Cubs_123669982_lbig.png
  8. Piniella has used Marmol perfectly of late.
  9. He shouldn't have been there arguing in the first place. If you don't go around the catcher, step back to the umpire and start yelling, in express violation of the rules, you don't have to worry about if your cap touches or not. Following the soapdropping rules = no problems.
  10. That should tell you how badly watching on TV skews the angles.
  11. You have the choice between an impartial human being, an impartial computer system and a person with a strongly vested interest in believing the pitch was a ball. You chose to believe the person whose biases matched up with your own.
  12. He's like the Jonathan Toews of basketball.
  13. It doesn't have to be significant to be interesting.
  14. Your decision on who/what to trust is irrational and wrong.
  15. http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/split.cgi?lg=ML&year=2009&t=b Split stats for the Majors. 15 home runs with the bases loaded (11 AL, only 4 NL, incidentally). One for every 795 plate appearances. Roughly twice 2008's final average of one Grand Slam per 1,513 plate appearances.
  16. I opened this thread thinking "What a stupid title, there's no way whatever is inside justifies it." I was wrong.
  17. if the bill of your cap touches the bill of the umps cap? Yes. You can't touch the ump. It's really a simple, hard and fast, reasonable rule.
  18. To be fair, a lot of these have been really good sliders.
  19. The nice thing is that this is the sort of losing that is usually short-term. Teams that are just wasting opportunities usually come storming back later in the season. Teams that are getting flat-out beat are just going to keep losing.
  20. "Wrong" does not mean "close and not in the Cubs' favor" It doesn't matter if it's close; the wrong call is still the wrong call. If a player is out by 3 feet or an inch he's still out. And at least half the calls you listed weren't wrong, including the most recent one in this inning.
