  1. He's proven at *every* opportunity that he can't hit as well as Aaron Miles. The first 600 PAs don't count because he was too young. The second 400 don't count because he didn't get regular enough playing time. It never counts, apparently, until he starts hitting (which he probably never will).
  2. His OBP is .301 since the age of 24. You can make all the excuses you want. The man has proven he cannot hit major-league pitching with any remotely acceptable level of skill. Few, if any, people who hit like he has ever turn into acceptable hitters.
  3. In over 200 more Ab's it wouldnt have been very hard for Theriots OBP to drop down those 50 points. Kind of skewing it saying it was much much better. Also considering the age Cedeno was when he reached the majors for a large majority of those sporadic at bats. Theriot would have had to go 22 for 236, an OBP of under .100. It would have been incredibly hard. Cedeno has ~600 minor league PAs spread across two seasons that said he might be able to hit in the major leagues, and 996 that say emphatically that he can't. He just can't. He's awful.
  4. Ryan Theriot's "crap" was much, much better than Cedeno's. At 26, Cedeno has 996 MLB PAs with an OBP of .288. At 26, Theriot had 760 MLB PAs with an OBP of .337.
  5. He's got 1,000 MLB plate appearances. That's plenty to establish an ability level, regardless of his minor-league stats.
  6. Neither is great, but give me the guy that has more upside, plays better defense, hits for more power, and doesnt cost 2.5 million for 2 year. Upside? He's 26. He is who he is. Defense? Yes. Power? Yes, but not enough to make up for his abysmal OBP. Money? Yes, Miles is stupidly overpaid. But he's still a better hitter than Ron Cedeno.
  7. Ronny Cedeno has 996 MLB plate appearances and a .288 OBP. Aaron Miles has matched that with batting average alone.
  8. Soriano shouldn't have been hustling to get to that ball. If he fields it casually, no run scores.
  9. That horrible call at 1b set up that inning. Harden would have been out of the inning if the 1b ump wasn't blind as a bat. The Rockies might still be batting if the ump hadn't blown the call at third to end the inning, or so it appeared on the one replay I saw.
  10. How does one hit without trying to hit home runs, which is just hitting the ball as hard as you can?
  11. Is Reed Johnson not in CF? Yes. And he's not good at it.
  12. Having an actual CFer somewhere on the depth chart probably would have saved us two runs as well.
  13. He looks just like he did in the first inning, but the Rockies stopped swinging at it.
  14. That is just taunting karma with Harden on the mound.
  15. Harden is not doing much to put down the rumors of racism at Wrigley, what with the KKK and all. (I know, I know, that was lame)
  16. With the exception of maybe Miles, this is a pretty good defensive lineup.
  17. I almost posted on a general baseball board to ask why Contreras was allowed to wear 42 for the White Sox. Glad I didn't.
  18. Sammy Sosa hit a bunch of home runs (not recently) The 1984 Cubs lost the NLCS (not recently) That Bulls picked some flashy guard from UNC with the No. 3 pick (not recently) The Bears recorded some kind of rap video (not recently)
  19. No. You have roughly 34 hours to shave it and start over.
  20. This is simple: You weigh the erosion of your brand against the extra revenue. There's no one-size-fits-all answer. If it's something reasonably natural sounding and you don't have a lot of history attached, sell away. In Wrigley's case, or if someone wanted to name a field Tampax Field, then it needs to be a lot more money to overcome the negatives.
  21. Soriano 2-for-7 with a pair of singles and a walk vs. Kevin Gregg in his career.
