  5. um, mlb tv went from showing what looked like a rerun of this old house to a blank screen. wth?
  6. Brackman, much like Samardzija, has more projection than your average college starter. His first two years he spent quite of a bit of development time on the hardwood. You have to take that into account. He's also pretty athletic for a big guy, which isn't as common as you'd think with the other pitchers that are tall. On average the taller pitchers do turn out better. I don't know where the hell your get the exception to the rule crap. He's not tall and just throws hard. He has pretty good offspeed stuff and has shown a much better ability to dominate hitters than Samardzija. His potential is through the roof. He's nearly seven foot tall, throws in the upper 90s with quality secondary pitches. How can you NOT like that? To be honest, I'm not so sure he's not the best college prospect. It's between him and Price, and I am not one to buy the whole take Price because he's left-handed argument. I buy the whole "switch hitting catcher with power and patience" thing. If I had the #1 overall, I'd take Wieters. what do people think of his defense, and how come i havent read of any comparisons with mauer?
  7. .211/.455/.587 whats the record for IsoP and IsoD?
  8. yea, i think this is bull....surely they got more than 449 total votes....i would call them out on it....send a letter to the editor and keep sending one until they reply to it in the paper. I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet, if anything. Probably nothing...but this does prove it's rigged. I can understand scrutiny with the email votes, maybe...but there were over 100 signed letters for the Cubs that I know were dropped off at the front desk of the newspaper. The first batch dropped off around 2 pM on Wednesday had 20 votes in it and the second one dropped off around 3 PM Thursday had over 80. That's 100 votes there not counting the email ones. So, I don't know who is doing the counting, but they aren't doing a decent job of it. I know that all of the "letters" dropped off were signed with an address that is local, so if they wanted to verify them, they could. I think they don't want to cover anyone but the Astros, but if they went by geography, the Rangers make more sense than the Astros. To make it make sense to their bosses (this is a Gannett run newspaper), they utilize this poll. Of course, they have to fix the results so that they don't have to cover the Cubs. 100 written votes vance? i'm guessing there are some students with cramped writing hands at your school
  9. it seemed like they wanted to foul with the score tied and 8 seconds left? good thing they didnt. that was amazing
  10. if he really needs a day off between outings, and only pitches 1 inning a game, i think 65 would be pushing it. that would be with no DL visits, too. ETA: last years IP for cubs pitchers- dempster, howry and novoa were the only guys over 70IP from the pen. eyre had 65 and ohman 61. none of them were restricted on use and all pitched on back to back days, iirc.
  11. looks like furcal is only out a week or so. http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=MLB&id=2960 thanks for the clip, luke!
  12. this doesnt sound like dusty at all. :D
  13. donovan is interesting, i cant imagine an in-conference move like that. he's likely to lose alot of starters this year. what kind of recruits does he have coming in?
  14. if novoa cant throw hard, then he has absolutely no value. even as a throw in on a trade he is worthless now.
  15. how many from this KU squad are going to jump early??
  16. can you use the same address? i sent 2. i threw in "geaux cubs", in case that makes it look more authentic.
  17. to make sure i understand this correctly, this would push back his free agency year to 2010 if he isnt on the major league squad for at least 41 days this year?
  18. thats true. how about williams then?
  19. No they wouldn't. The other GMs around the league will realize that there's no chance of actually getting him with a claim, so why would they go out of their way just to piss off a fellow GM? What's the sense in doing that? i see no reason why jocketty wouldn't do that, if it could complicate how the cubs handle their roster to start the year. we're never going to make a big trade with the cards, so there's no reason to worry about bad feelings between organizations.
  20. i'm really surprised to hear this after so few appearances. lou must be looking quite a bit at past performance, or maybe rothschild is a big weurtz fan and lou is listening.
