  1. I'll get to my pics tomorrow. It's been a busy week.
  2. I'm sorry we don't need to sign Pierre. And to suggest that we ignore his cold start because we want to say his numbers since June indicate that he's better is ludicrous. His numbers for the season are similar to his numbers for 2005. My guess is the best OBP one can assume for Pierre in 2007 is around 330-335, and that's just not good for a lead-off hitter. Pierre is a one trick pony. I'd rather my players develop more than one trick. We should pass on Pierre. We could sign Alex Sanchez for a lot cheaper. Pierre is just Willie Wilson part deux.
  3. I think a good way to pass the time in the offseason would be a poll where we decide which female celebrity is the hottest....ah....never mind!
  4. Any guesses on who Lou will tab as his bench coach now?
  5. He also led the NL in making outs.
  6. Oh they're idiots alright. Believe it or not, I heard that Suppan's 1-run performance was just more proof that great pitching beats good hitting.
  7. Hmmm. That is shocking!
  8. The Rangers interviewd former catcher John Russell yesterday. Next up, Manny Acta. Link.
  9. And yes, on sports talk radio, in regards to Suppan's performance, I've already heard the "great pitching beats good hitting." Ummm...when did Suppan become a great pitcher. I think this WS further indicates the playoffs are a crapshoot argument.
  10. Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail = #1 comedy!
  11. Mark looks like he's trying to steal food from Heather's plate.
  12. I don't think 2003 was the beginning of the problem. I'm still convinced that 2004 team was the best team in baseball on paper. It was the decisions that followed '04 that was the beginniing of the end. The decisions that created the 2004 team however, set in motion the disasters that followed. The escalating contracts that were signed to keep the 2004 team under the budget made it impossible to improve the team in 2005-2006 without increases in payroll.
  13. I'd start TO and Housh at WR. Jones and Drew at RB. Then I'd pick from Coles or Parker for my flex.
  14. Furthermore, how good would the Cubs be if we traded Lee for Arod, re-signed Ramirez, and then traded prospects for Burrell, and signed Soriano. CF Soriano LF Murton SS Arod 3b Ramirez 1b Burrell LF Jones C Barrett 2b Izturis The Cubs if money allowed could still look to improve at second by signing Durham or Loretta. The cost in prospects to get Burrell is probably minimal unless the Cubs ask the Phillies to pay some salary.
  15. Not only is Lee solid with the bat, but he is probably the best defensive 1b in the game. Lee for A-Rod wont be a good idea. Lee is a great defensive 1b, but Arod's offensive value at short would outweigh Lee's value at first. Furthermore, Arod likely provides more offense than Lee and that would be from a position that offense is often scarce. Also, if we traded Lee for Arod, the added salary would only be minimal. The Cubs could attempt to trade for someone else to play first. Potential targets could be Todd Helton or Adam Dunn. I'm aware the Cubs won't trade Lee because of his popularity, and that view is extremely myopic. First of all, Arod has been and likely will be the more productive player. Lee really has only one great season surrounded by some good to very good seasons. Arod has been great for his entire career. Projecting outward, Arod likely will be the better hitter and considering he can likely play SS, his value is much greater than that of Lee. Finding a player who can even play SS at 75% of Arod's production would be very difficult. Finding a firstbaseman who could produce 75% of Lee's would likely be easy.
  16. But if we don't get him inked to an extension, it may not be our problem.
  17. If my scouts convinced me Arod could still play SS, I'd trade Lee for Arod. Finding a 1b to make up the production would be much easier than finding a SS to make up that kind of production.
  18. I think we should be more worried that Zambrano can leave as a FA following the 2007 season.
  19. The Rocky movies should be a number one seed. I'd think the Harry Potter movies could be included. What about James Bond movies? X-Men triology?
  20. I think Hendry has a feeling that Pierre doesn't want to come back, even if there was a competitve offer on the table. My guess is this year in Chicago was not a positive experience for Juan and he wants a change of scenery.
  21. why soriano in CF? has he ever played there before? I think he could play CF as well as he played left. From all indications he's brutal at second. There are also more decent options at 2b than there are at CF. Now if we could trade for Andruw Jones and sign Soriano for second, I'd be for that option as well.
  22. I think Pierre is an option, but the Cubs know they have to add a big bat. I expect the Cubs to make an arbitration offer and keep tabs with Pierre, but fully expect him to leave. On the other hand, if the Cubs acquire a power bat at second or at SS, then the Cubs could look at Pierre as an option.
  23. Eyre had an interesting comment.
