  1. Yes, the bench does matter to a team success. What if Soriano gets hurt. Then who is going to fill in CF? What if Lee gets injured again. Who will take his spot at 1b? You need depth on your bench. A versitle bench is the way to go. Ah geeze! Ok, bench: Scoot Moore 1b/3b, Ryan Theriot 2b/ss/3b, Pagan OF, Restovich OF, Soto C, Coats 2b/3b/OF. If Lee, gets hurt Moore plays. If Soriano gets hurt, we call up Pie. If Ramirez gets hurt, Moore plays. If Murton gets hurt, Pagan plays. There's a nice bench all at league minimum. Happy now. I'd rather spend my money on players who actually help the team win.
  2. Mercker's main complaint was about a dumbass Chip Caray comment, if I remember right. IIRC, Mercker's complaint was initially about Chip gushing about the grand pitching performance of Roy Oswalt in a game in which Oswalt gave up six runs. Mercker called the booth from the clubhouse to ask how in hell was Oswalt's outing such a "grand" performance. Stone then leaked the information to the media and then later commented about it on the air. This pissed off Mercker as he felt the whole affair should have been left behind closed doors. The players, not just Mercker seemed betrayed by the media. The story goes, Mercker later confronted Stone about it. Stone in turn once again leaked details of the confrontation to the media and in a way that made Mercker seem much more beligerent than the encounter likely was in reality. The players then wanted Stone and Caray thrown off the team charter. As broadcasters for the team, the team felt betrayed by them and that is understandable. Furthermore, Stone got more sarcastic and caustic as the season wore on. It was clear he held a grudge. Personally, I want no more of Stone.
  3. Stone wasn't fired, he quit because his feelings were hurt. QFT
  4. Jim Hendry has decided he likes fast slap-hitting midgets that catch the ball. Do they all get along, though? Yes. They will all ride to field in the same car. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y290/tovalondner/midgets.jpg I didn't realize they all had to be partially bald midgets. They shaved their heads as a gesture of team unity.
  5. Why is Mercker getting the blame for Stone not coming back? This appears to be revisionist history. Facts are that the Cubs didn't bring back Mercker or Alou, the two players most involved in the feud with Stone. Stone was asked back. He declined to return, likely because his ego was hurt that Baker didn't back him up. So, first Stone was NEVER fired. Secondly, it appears the organization did choose Stone over the players, but the manager didn't make the same choices. Stone is thin-skinned and egotistical. I just wish Stone was as good as he thinks he is.
  6. Be prepared for the Anti-Stone people. I also enjoy Stone but we are the minority on this board. I like him as an announcer, but hate him as a decision maker. I lost a lot of respect for him with the way he went out. Why because morons like Kent Mercker and Dusty Baker ran him out of town I would be bitter too if the Cubs choose a loogy over one of the best colorman in the buisness. I think he acted like a classless fool with complete unprofessionalism and immaturity. The Cubs should always prioritize players over an announcer. An announcer who thinks otherwise is an arrogant idiot. Agreed.
  7. And choices like Bochy wouldn't. Or if Dierker had been hired, he wouldn't mean the Cubs wanted to win? Didn't hiring Dusty mean the Cubs wanted to win too? I love me some meaningless cliche's backed up my meaningless conventional wisdom.
  8. Jim Hendry has decided he likes fast slap-hitting midgets that catch the ball. Do they all get along, though? Yes. They will all ride to field in the same car. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y290/tovalondner/midgets.jpg
  9. Is it just me, but I think it might be fun to watch a team of 8 midgets who walk all the time. I'm worried about how the midgets perform on defense though.
  10. I think you can also sign as many as you lose. So if Pierre is a type-A, we can sign another when Pierre goes elsewhere.
  11. Hitting coach is unknown at this point, I think. It appears we know Rotshchild as PC and McLaren as bench coach. It seems it is speculated that Quade will be first base coach. Elia may be the hitting coach. I'd prefer Chamblis.
  12. What about this? Cubs sign Schmidt and Soriano. They trade Prior plus prospects for Arod. They trade young pitcher for Marcus Giles. They re-up Miller. They keep Aramis. Look at this team: CF Soriano (15) 2b Giles (6) 1b Lee (13) SS Arod (16) 3b Ramirez (13) RF Jones (5) LF Murton (400K) C Barrett (4) SP Zambrano (10) SP Schmidt (11) SP Hill (400K) SP Miller (2) SP: Whoever isn't traded (400 K) Bullpen: Dempster, Eyre, Howry, Ohman, Wuertz, Aardsma (14) Bench: Does it matter? 4.5) Total: 115
  13. My initial answer is no. But if in trying to extend Zambrano, I feel he is going to test the FA waters next offseason and leave the Cubs with no compensation, I might consider the deal. I'd probably want another player in addition to Arod or cash thrown in the deal if I included Zambrano.
  14. How about this deal? Cubs get: Arod Yankees get Blalock and Eyre Rangers get Prior.
  15. Soriano is far from the ideal lead-off hitter. That being said, I'd rather he be our leadoff hitter than someone with Pierre's skill set. He brings more to the table than players who only have speed.
  16. An outfield of Soriano, Lee, and Murton would be productive yet brutal on defense. I'd still like it.
  17. Thanks for the fumble, Edge. Thanks for the missed FG, Neil. oh boy!
  18. I'm so happy he missed that...and I'm not a Bears fan! Fantasy victory for me!
  19. Someone asked what it would take for me to like Piniella. Arod would about do it.
  20. Leinert has some time. Let's see what happens. For the record...I hope the Bears stop them. If Rackers kicks a field goal, my fantasy team is toast.
  21. Wow...that was good for you Bears fans.
  22. Everyone knows Lou wasn't my first choice. He wouldn't have made my top five. However, I'm giving him a fair shake. Hopefully, I'll be sitting here three years from now happy about this hire.
