  1. If it's not rejected, we'll just reverse the trade once it's finished. I'm not one to take advantage of someone because they hit the wrong button.
  2. I'd strongly consider it. If I did, I'd try to pull off a trade for Andruw Jones and Hudson to use Hudson to replace Prior.
  3. This article further implies that Dunn could be the next Red to be traded. A few quotes:
  4. That's a good idea. Either a one-game playoff or a best two of three series for the two wild cards.
  5. That clip is EXACTLY why we need him here - he has the intensity we need I'm...Hoping thats a joke. A hothead manager is exactly what we dont need. We already have one ignorant hot head managing a baseball team in chicago, we dont need another. I have to disagree here. Watching Lou lose his mind will best part about next season. That may be true since the Cubs surely won't do much worth watching.
  6. Chris Walker...2007 Cubs CF!
  7. Playoff hyperbole...gotta love it! I guess Jim should have signed Scott Speizio as well.
  8. Take away a home game? What? What's the point of putting them at a disadvantage? My guess is that they want winning the division to mean more so they want to put the WC at a disadvantage. Like in the NFL, the wildcards have to play one more game than the top division winners. In baseball, the wildcard has no real disadvantage. I'm not necessarily for it, but it's not a bad idea either.
  9. Tuberville has said it before, and I somewhat agree, that the only way an SEC school will likely be a National Champion is if they institute a playoff system. While that's not completely true, ie LSU's 2003 National Championship, I agree with him for the most part. It's really hard for an SEC school to go undefeated.
  10. If the Red Sox miss the playoffs again, Francona could become available. I'd rather have Tito than any of the candidates mentioned this year.
  11. Reading through this article, I found an interesting comment near the end.
  12. If you look at my earlier post, you'll notice I said IF he doesn't get another managerial job. Wouldn't he rather return to NY to bench coach for Torre again and put himself back in the running for that job?
  13. I'd take either. And everyone knows how much I like Dunn, but Bonds numbers this year still surpass young Adam's. Bonds had a higher OBP and SLG as well. I'm no fan of Bonds, but if he came for 10 million bones (and the SF papers are suggesting that he will be paid less than 10 million) or less, he'd make a great acquisition, personality defects and all. And unlike Dunn, it will cost no players to get him for this one season. I know people don't like the baggage Bonds brings. I don't either. He's an ass, but I've been friends with assholes before, and even have been called one myself a time or two, and if this [expletive] can help us win the World Series, and I believe he can, I'll take 130 games of a 1000 OPS in leftfield for 10 million or less and then cut him loose next season.
  14. And it also doesn't appear Joe is for certain the Nationals' choice. Link.
  15. WHAT?! My thoughts as well. Now if it were Marshall, Veal, Jones for Andruw and Hudson...that's a good deal. Sorry vance, I'm not purposedly trying to pick fights with you, or it's not my intention, but imo, if there is one minor leaguer who is OFF-LIMITS, it is Donald Veal. And I certainly would not part with him for two massively overpriced contracts. And I think the Cubs could get Jones and Hudson WITHOUT having to put Veal in. Now, Jones/Marhsall/Marmol/Patterson for Hudson/AJ would atleast get to the table, especially if the Braves don't have to eat much of the contract. Oh, I'd definitely try to make the move without including Veal as well. Somewhere in some thread, I think I've proposed a deal for Jones and Hudson that didn't include Veal. On the other hand, if I could get Jones and Hudson in a package, I don't think I'd let the inclusion of Veal become a deal breaker. As much as I hope it's not so, but I think if the Braves are moving Jones and Hudson in the same deal, they are going to want one of Veal, Murton, or Pie. My deal was Pie and Marshall for Hudson and Jones. The Cubs probably have to add another player to the deal, but I don't think it would have to be a high ceiling guy. The Cubs might even be able to get the Braves to take Novoa or someone of his ilk back.
  16. How expensive will he be in arbitration? Enough that the A's might deal him?
  17. Concerning Porter's suspension, this is pretty funny.
  18. Isn't SEC football fun?
  19. Will he be a FA this offseason? If so, I sign him for CF.
  20. He knows what ERA stands for. But does he recognize that RA+ is more stable than ERA or even ERA+ from year to year? Does it matter if the manager knows that? I doubt many managers are familiar with stats like that. I could be wrong, but I'd be surprised. You're probably not wrong, and I don't expect them to either. I do expect them to understand OBP, the importance of BB's (both offensively and by our pitching staff), pitcher abuse, how to create a good lineup, and not making consistently terrible in-game managing decisions All managers are going to make bad in-game decisions, I understand and accept that. I just don't want them to do it repeatedly like Busty. I too don't expect them to understand those things. I would like them to be able to consult a run expectancy chart.
  21. WHAT?! My thoughts as well. Now if it were Marshall, Veal, Jones for Andruw and Hudson...that's a good deal.
  22. I heard the comment when he said it. It didn't bother me much at the time, but I rarely put much stock in what Lyons says anyway.
  23. Thanks for the link! Great stuff!
