  1. I might offer them Prior and Eyre for Arod. I think that offer could be very tempting to the Yankees.
  2. There's no harm in signing him. Maybe the velocity will return.
  3. I could see the Reds having interest in Dempster. They love to trade for relievers.
  4. I'll happily take him off your hands if you don't want a choker on your team.
  5. Did anyone see Letterman's bit about the NYC Department of Health's Choking poster?
  6. If Piniella takes the Giants' job, he'd prefer for Bonds not to be a part of his team. Link.
  7. You think they'd rather have Hunter than Matthews? Matthews may be leaving as a FA.
  8. I'd like to see Moore get some starts at SS.
  9. Here's a quick list of some players of note. I'd take his predictions with a grain of salt. You can find career stats for the players listed at japanesebaseball.com. There aren't any CF on that list. :(
  10. 3/16 would be as high as I'd be willing to go with Juan, and with Pie on the way, I really don't want to go three years. I'd just offer him arbitration and take the picks that come with him. Dave Roberts or Kenny Lofton offer the same skills as Pierre for fewer years and less money.
  11. Pierre's arm was so bad that my guess is that Cub fans consider his entire defense deficient based on the poor arm.
  12. Trade Lee for Arod and then trade for Dunn to play 1B. CF Lofton LF Murton SS Arod 1b Dunn 3b Ramirez RF Jones C Barrett 2b Theriot or other FA I think that line-up would be alright.
  13. My guess is that the Twins won't have to trade him, but they would be willing to take offers on him. Texas would be interested in him, but I don't think they would at that price.
  14. Do you think the Yankees would send him another AL team? The Rangers did. I think the inter-division, inter-league trade prohibition is a baseball myth. I think teams look for the best possible deal they can get. I could see some intra-division prohibitions...though even those are overblown. I doubt they would send Arod to the Red Sox, but any other team is fair game.
  15. Do you think the Yankees would send him another AL team? Yes. I think if everything is equal, they'd prefer to send him to the NL, but they won't do that for a significantly lesser package. The Angels are deep enough to make a much stronger bid than the Cubs. It will be interesting to see how the Cubs proceed here. I don't think we'll get him, but I surely hope that we will try. The wildcard in this is Rodriguez's no-trade clause. He has a say in where he wants to go. Does he want to remain at third? Would he prefer a chance to return to SS? Does he want to switch leagues? All of those issues will matter to him.
  16. If the Angels really want him, I don't think the Cubs have the players to match the package the Angels could offer.
  17. Ah....a better choice than Girardi emerges.
  18. If the Cubs took Pavano in a deal for Arod, I doubt the Cubs would have trouble getting the Yankees to take back Dempster as part of the deal.
  19. In 130 games this year, Bonds hit 270/454/545. If Jones could be moved and Murton installed in right, I might would want the Cubs to take a flyer on Bonds. His defense in left wouldn't be much worse than we had with Alou. We'd need a half-way decent OF on the bench to fill in for the 30 games he can't play, but that production in the fourth spot would be nice. I don't know the dollars he will command. He made 19 million last year. Will he be cheaper than 10 million? I don't know, but if the market for Bonds bottoms out to an under 10 million price tag, he's likely worth it for one season. As hated as he's been, having that level of production would be nice.
  20. Kruk gets paid handsomely for that brilliant analysis. I think part of his brain was removed when they amputated his nut.
  21. agreed. I liked the George who went through managers like they were women he had picked up at the bar, and then occasionally decided to hook up with one again from time to time.
  22. I want a team of 8 Neifi's or 8 Ecksteins....hell, give me 8 Pierre's. Gamers, scrappers, and saviors! That's what I want! :D
  23. Other than Matsuzka, what other Japanese players are FA or likely to be posted?
  24. I'm not to sure what you're going to find out in an interview anyhow, but Piniella, Brenly, Girardi, Listach, and Quade have been available for a week. Bochy is the only one he needed to wait for. I'm wondering if Rothschild as pitching coach is one of the interview questions. I think you could learn a lot about philosophy and how he thinks in regards to situations. Of course the answers I'd want to hear and the one's Hendry would like to hear are probably diametrically opposed to each other.
