  1. The Marlins have hired former Blue Jays manager Carlos Tosca as bench coach. Link. The article above also mentions the Marlins are waiting for Kranitz to accept their offer to return as pitching coach.
  2. Hal McCoy is calling for the trade of Adam Dunn. Link. Maybe it's time for Dunn to come to Chicago. :-k
  3. Exactly. If they are gonna spend all that money, get 4 #1 starters. You can assemble the best offensive lineup in baseball, but on any given night they can get shut down by good pitching, its that simple. Offseason Headline: Yankees sign Zito, Scmidt, and Matsuzaka Thats the thing that worries me Steinbenner is going to be on mission this off season driving up the price on these players to a ridiculous level. I'm happy they lost but this could be bad news for any hope of the Cubs getting Zito or Schmidt. But it could be good news for the Cubs' chances of getting Rodriguez.
  4. So, what team in the AL will want him and pay him what it would take to get him? The Yankees? The Red Sox don't have an opening at DH. Maybe the Angels?
  5. According to the Washington Times(Link), Piniella and Girardi have already met with the Nationals, but that both are waiting to talk to the Cubs before taking the job.
  6. Link That's interesting. If Bonds were to leave the Giants, where would he go? What would be the cost of employing him? Should the Cubs have interest?
  7. It's looking more and more likely that Wotus would be the choice in San Francisco. Link.
  8. How about this deal? Cubs get Arod. Rangers get Prior Yankees get Blalock and Eyre.
  9. Based on what others have now written, I think I'd support a hire of Bochy. I'd still prefer Dierker, but of the listed candidates of Piniella, Brenly, Girardi, and Bochy, I'd put Bochy way above the other three on that list.
  10. But that could very well lead to Joe Torre taking Piniella's place in Hendrys plan. I dont know which one is worse for the Cubs to hire, Torre or Piniella. Both of them are not good managers. I bet Torre retires. I agree. And if he doesn't retire, I do expect him to take a year off.
  11. He told Loria to quiet down and let him handle the umpires. Good for him. If you could point to one signle shred of evidence to support he is a control freak you'd have a much stronger argument in that regard. Again, it won't upset me at all if he isn't hired, but he is a viable option. Of course he's viable. I just don't think he's the best as I've seen espoused at every turn. I certainly don't think that the Cubs will be making a monumental mistake not hiring him. In fact, there are likely lesser known guys like Mills and Washington which would be equally good, if not better hires. I definitely don't think this hire is a "match in heaven." Well, I have introduced evidence that he's a control freak, you just choose not to trust the word of Beinfest. The last thing the Cubs need is to hire a manager that has no track record. Not to say that Mills or Washington may not turn out to be fine managers, but with the Cubs payroll and ability to get a proven manager, it would be ignorant for them to take a chance on an unknown. Then by that token, we should rule out Girardi, because he hasn't proven anything. One season of sub-500 ball is nothing.

  13. Unfortunately, no. It's just frustrating. The call in Auburn and now this. I hope you didn't think I was serious. Referring aside, LSU has looked absolutely awful and continues to shoot themselves in the foot. UGH!!!!!! Yep. LSU right now doesn't deserve to win this one, and I doubt we will.
  14. Your opinion. He has his, as do others. Everybody is entitled to "bitch and moan" if they want. I'm sure you will once the hire somebody not named Dierker. Actually, I'm pretty certain they won't hire Dierker. That's a shame. I'm more likely to bitch and moan that won't even interview Dierker. My issue was with "they'll hear from me," like the Cubs will give a damn.
  15. I don't think it's a myth that he jeopardized the career of a young pitcher. It isn't a myth that he had a run-in with his superiors. It isn't a myth that he espouses conventional wisdom and gives away too many outs. Whether or not he's a control-freak is up for interpretation. The fact is, all of these are legitimate concerns. Had we more of a track record to judge him upon, we might find some to be overblown. Yet, as the record stands these are all concerns which detract from Girardi's credit. In fact, the only real thing he has to his credit is that he managed a team that many felt wasn't as good as it was to an under 500 record.
  16. It's funny how some people love the ex-Cub factor so much that they minimize all faults of such candidate that they would be pointing out in anyone else.
  17. Unfortunately, no. It's just frustrating. The call in Auburn and now this.
  18. Hometown calls make me sick.
  19. Horrible call by the officials there! Horrible!
  20. If OU wins here, that cheat job in Oregon is going to be huge!
  21. That looked like a safety. Generous spot there.
  22. I just don't think State is that good.
  23. Bruce, Thanks again for taking the time. A few questions if you don't mind. Other than the big three of Piniella, Girardi, and Brenly, who else do you anticipate getting interviewed or will the scope of the search be limited to those three? Does Jim know Larry Dierker exists? Who do you anticipate being the Cubs primary free agent target? Is there any interest in the front office in trading for Andruw Jones? Would the Braves be inclinded to trade him and at what price?
