  1. Ourselves. If the Cubs don't beat themselves, they'll be fine.
  2. Did they even have a hometown team contest this year? Not that I'm aware of. Last year, they switched to a mail-in ballot that had to be clipped from the paper. Not surprisingly, they had less than 100 total ballots turned in. I hardly ever get a paper as I read it online, so I don't know that they didn't do it that way again. My mom gets the paper daily though, and she didn't mention it, and she usually would. My guess is they did away with it. But who knows?
  3. They are having a lot of problems with the site right now. I've tried to purchase the mlbtv and my credit card was declined. I called the cc company, and they weren't even showing the declines. So I called the customer service number, and the lady told me they were having a lot of technical problems with the site.
  4. I can't wait for first pitch. I wore my Cubs tie to work today. When I get home, I'll change into the jersey!
  5. I'm very glad it's a night game. We're in statewide assessment testing, so if it were a day game, I'd miss it. In fact, if we weren't in testing, I'd be at the game. :(
  6. They're hitting him harder than he hits his wife. (sorry, I couldn't resist.)
  7. I guess this means Jericho will be at Boise. I was hoping he'd start the year in Peoria.
  8. It doesn't surprise me that the players would want a new park. Compared to other parks, the players clubhouse at Wrigley is extremely cramped and lacks the amenities they can get in other parks.
  9. Team Stats & Scoring 1. Number of Cubs wins, 2009 95 2. Number of Cubs wins, Cardinals season series (16 games) 10 3. Number of runs scored, 2009 861 4. Number of runs allowed, 2009 726 5. 10. Giants have cut Plaxico. Link.
  11. According to NFL draft bible, three players that are scheduled to go in the first round of the draft tested positive for marijuana at the combine. Link
  12. I'm glad the Bears got him and not the Skins.
  13. Mike Fontenot in the sixth inning of the first game.
  14. Yeah, Sheff should be able to hit 30+ HR in GABP if he's healthy and given regular playing time.
  15. It's hard to pass on the best defensive player on the board, so I can understand the move. In the Rams' case, though, resisting that temptation might be best if they want their franchise LT in this draft. Does anyone buy the talk going around of Detroit taking Jason Smith with the #1 pick? Unless they can pull a deal that lands them Cutler.
  16. He hasn't played 2b since 2002. Since then, he's been primarily a LF/1b/dh. He doesn't bring anything defensively that Hoffpauir can't do. He's not a bad bench option at those positions, but I don't see him as anything that would really help the Cubs.
  17. Speculation is that Veal will stick with the Pirates. Link.
  18. I like the grays much better than the blue tops. Blue tops should never be worn at home. Go back to the grays with the Cuba script, I say!
  19. I think 7 is the smallest league I've ever played. I'm in an 8-team league this year, and there's quite a bit of left over talent.
  20. Since IMB isn't going to show today, Cowboys take Jarius Byrd, CB at Oregon.
  21. Working out a trade with the Rockies still wouldn'tnecessarily let us keep Patton. Before he can be sent down, he has to be placed on waivers where any other team would have a chance to claim him with the same rule five restrictions the Cubs have him with. If no one wants him then, the Cubs could work out a deal with the Rockies and send him down. My guess is that there are some teams that would claim him and try to keep him all year based on his spring performance.
  22. Once again, I'll wait on IMB, but looking at my board, I think the Cowboys could take Jarius Byrd, CB at Oregon. They may also take a look at Captain Munnerlyn from SC or Cody Brown from Connecticut.
  23. Angel Berroa is having a nice spring for the Yankees. Today, he collected his eighth double. According to rotoworld, the Yankees will pick Ramiro Pena as the utility player and have Cody Ransom fill in for Arod. If that's the case, Berroa would be expendable. Berroa would definitely fill a need for the Cubs. First of all, he's probably a better defensive SS than anyone currently on our roster or in the high minors. Now, granted, he is now on the wrong side of 30, hasn't had a good season in awhile, and even in his good seasons, he has a piss poor OBP. On the other hand, if we're going to have a player who's a little speedy, but otherwise useless, I'd rather have Berroa on the 25-man roster instead of Gathright.
