  1. When can the Cubs (or any other team) make an offer to Furcal?
  2. Just saw this "GM" press conference for the first time. Wow that was lame. What a waste of time.
  3. Yeah. I could just see some of the questions now: How the hell did you give Neifi a 2-year contract worth $5 mill dollars? ARe you on crack or something?
  4. I don't know the numbers of the Cards and Stros backup infielders, but I can pretty much guarantee they're not making $2.5 mill a year.
  5. He's a slap-hitting switch hitter who can't get on base to save his life and who at least looks like he might have some speed. In other words, he's Dusty's ideal #2 hitter. Don't forget that he's really good at bunting the ball to the shortstop. He's a bunting machine. That's exactly what we need out of the 2-hole.
  6. If that happens, it won't be because Neifi got some at bats from the bench. It'll just be one of many factors. If they let him start at SS or 2B, that would be pretty bad, and he'll probably get plenty of at bats either way with Dusty managing, but it seems odd how so many people like to pretend that Neifi is going to bring the team down single-handedly. Maybe his greatest value is as a scapegoat. Then again, I'm confident we'd all find someone else to blame if he left. I don't think anyone here has a problem with Neifi being signed as a bench player. The problem is Hendry decided to give Neifi way too much money to play on a Dusty Baker team which pretty much guarantees Neifi will get way too much playing time and way too much time batting 2nd in the lineup. It's just a sign that management really have no idea what they're doing when it comes to making a championship caliber team.
  7. Where? I am from Niles. Wow. I'm from Dowagiac. Grew up there until I was 14.
  8. Yeah right. It's almost a guarantee right now that Neifi will bat in the 2-hole. I wasn't a big fan of getting Pierre, but if it means Neifi will be batting 8th I'm all for it. I'm sure this is a happy day for Ronny Cedeno.
  9. Haha. Hendry can overpay for crap like Rusch and Neifi, but heaven forbids he overpay for someone who actually produces.
  10. Anyone else wish the Cubs' Convention started tommorow? Hendry would be eaten alive.
  11. Hendry isn't really sending a good message to the manager by paying Neifi a crapload of money to be a backup.
  12. So if the money is right, is it pretty much guaranteed that Walker will be traded and Neifi will be our starting 2b? You don't pay $2.5 mill for a backup. I need to hit something...
  13. We should start a pool on what crappy player Hendry will get next. Macias? A trade with San Diego for Vinny Castilla? He can catch the ball, right?
  14. I was hoping you'd come on here and dismiss the rumors. Why does Hendry keep paying too much money for mediocre players? Here's to hoping the Trib decides to sell the Cubs very quickly and the new owners fire Hendry and Dusty.
  15. I'd definitely be up for that trade. I'd rather have Crisp than Bradley, even though Bradley is probably the better player.
  16. Hendry sucks. Neifi sucks. Why? Why? Why? Sometimes I really hate the Cubs.
  17. There's a thread about Mench going already: viewtopic.php?t=26384
  18. I remember reading an article a little while ago (couple weeks) saying that his career was still up in the air and that he might need another TJ surgery. If he had to have the surgery it meant his career was pretty much over. Edit: Here's what Rotowold had on him from just a couple of days ago:
  19. Looks like they won't complete the demolition of Old Busch stadium until June 2006. Busch Demolition will take Months Seems pretty stupid to me that they decided to demolish it this way. Couldn't they have saved a bunch of time by just blowing the thing up? Why do it this way when it's going to continue into the 2006 season? Stupid.
  20. Dang. I was having such a good morning too. This is a joke if it's true.
  21. I'm pretty sure Dusty wanted 15 pitchers, 8 starting position players, and then Neifi and Macias rounding out the roster.
  22. I'm glad Hendry is going after more starting pitching, but I wish he were going after Millwood instead of Burnett. I'm also glad to see that Furcal is higher on Hendry's list than Pierre is.
  23. Meat, As I have said all along, the Cubs have been acting like they really don't Walker back for at least 2 months now. I don't know if it's his defense or his durability or some lingering clubhouse issue. I think Hendry picked up his option, so that he would have the option of trading him. And considering Walker will only make $2.5M in 2006, he is easily marketable. They really seem to like Cedeno. If you read between the lines, he will be starting at 2B and batting 8th in 2006. Hoops, What teams do you see the Cubs maybe trading Walker to, and what would the Cubs want in return?
  24. I wonder if the Padres are making room in the rotation for a David Wells trade. Wells requested a trade back to a west coast team. Maybe the Padres are planning to get him back from the Red Sox. Still a crappy trade though.
